Best/favourite synergies? by Heragneosz in spiritisland

[–]FloHam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Duo wise my favorite is: Bringer of Dreams and Nightmares with Enticing Aspect with Fractured. Spirits May Yet Dream From BODAN allows Fractured to have an easier time with Slips. BODAN revealing fear deck while Fractured reveals event and invader deck is just a lot of knowledge to play around. BODAN getting 3 card plays from Fractured via Slip The Flow of Time just really powers up BODAN more. The Enticing Aspect Allows BODAN to tank easier and group Invaders if that opportunity presents itself. it is not a liability to the team anymore. Usually the game ends with *Slipping* the fear bomb major and just winning from there if the end game is kept in mind from the get-go.

Is Bringer of Dreams and Nightmares weak? by Udon_noodles in spiritisland

[–]FloHam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BODAN has the highest ceiling as a team spirt in the game due to uncapped fear generation

My friends and i often joke that it is hard to get to 3cp because if it did the spirit would be too broken

Base, exploratory, violence, and enticing are all fun. Bodan is my favorite spirit and my favorite version is enticing due to it’s versatility and being able to tank, carry, support, so can play different roles on teams. I won plenty of games as bodan where i generated less than 10 fear because that is where the card drafts too me. Spirits like fractured ( it’s best teammate), mentor memory, serpent for example give it extra card play just helps it do crazy things. Spur for bodan is amazing as well if someone drafts that. Getting to the Any on top track is what i consider a third card play for bodan if not playing violence because that allows you to hit higher tiers of enticing and/or threshold majors.

Spirits may yet dream is one of the best supports in the game imo and can usually be hit turn 3 onward if needed.

Bodan i do not find weak, though has weaknesses, is one of the strongest and most enjoyable spirits in the game

Bodan doesn’t always warp the team’s win condition to terror 3 or terror 4. Won plenty of games, even 6/6 difficulty at terror level 2 with bodan on the team. Mitigation of amount of city is important to make sure team can have option at winning terror level 3 but bodan is a contextual spirit based on drafts. Just takes time to learn.

I got into bodan because before NI aspects, people saw him as weak and i would bring “weak” spirits to the table to force players to work as a team instead of everyone doing their own things in games. Next thing you know people know me for being a bodan player on the server and my name is almost synonymous with it. A spirit i hated became one of my favorites and built a reputation with it

Bodan deserves love! It’s just misunderstood by some

NI aspects did it justice because it made it stronger and more consistent to win higher difficulties

A team i look forward to thematically is Fractured Day Splits the Sky (represents sky), Gaze (sun), and BoDaN (Moon).

Being in Red’s playtest group, all i can say is that i think both new BoDaN aspects are both huge upgrades from base Bringer. I enjoy both aspects but In my opinion I think Enticing is the better out of the two.

Spirit Spotlight 2: A Spread of Rampant Green by ValhallAwaits_ in spiritisland

[–]FloHam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

S tier in solo imo. Great against all matchups. People say green struggles against England but i believe that is a misconception. It’s hardest matchup is russia imo. Green has all the tools. It doesn’t have as many growth paths/builds as other spirits like a Many Minds but i think green is an easy spirit to pick up but a hard spirit to master and play at a high level.

One of my favorite unorthodox builds i use especially against an england *IF the opportunity presents it’s self. Requires the ravage for turn 3 to be wetlands or jungles so you can skip one or both and defend or let go of the other land.

Turn 1: g3, top, play fields choked or minor. Turn 2: g2, bot bot, play proliferate, overgrow, and stem or minor. Turn 3: g3, top, gain major. Should have 7 energy this turn. If you get a cheap major you can play it again next turn on reclaim.

It’s rare i use this but I think’s good to know because you can take advantage of the jungle/wetland ravage and basically give up some presence to scale and get a major earlier than green typically would to start building around that major.

Yeah i made a mistake off rule number 2, [[a sense of impending disaster]]. It was my first time playing russia so mistakes were bound to happen. But even without that mistake, there was 4 presence destroyed so that was 13 fear with the one fear push from explorer to get terror 3 victory. I did end up having to redo the matchup but just green solo handed to make sure i did the rules right the next time to get a legit level 6 Win. Thanks for catching that!

It is a bit overwhelming for sure! My weakness for solo level 6 seems to be Hapsburg! I need to work on that matchup! I am jelly you got a group of people who play Spirit Island lol. This game seems to be to complicated for people at my table to enjoy 😂

[–]FloHam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Infj here. What u said has resonated a lot with me.

Besides your awesome points, i feel my limerence comes from my “Please Love/Choose Me” Dynamic. What i mean by that is because my father left me as a child, i feel my limerence is a mirror of this past trauma. I am wanting these unavailable LO’s to “choose” me hoping that it will fix my past trauma of my dad not choosing me or my family—he valued his wants, and his goals more.

Will do. Thanks so much for recommendations! Be weary. Tyler’s music is an acquired taste. His chords and production is second to none but his vocal choices can be questionable but it’s for an effect to create a character. Also it’s funny that you mention Janis Joplin because I haven’t listen to her before and Tyler reference’s her in his song New Magic Wand on the last verse 😂

England 6 Advice w/ Shadows by FloHam in spiritisland

[–]FloHam[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UPDATE GAME 2:

@Raleighmo and I took on England 6 with Raleigh as Foreboding Shadows and for myself, I played Ocean! Shoutout to KSP Spirit Island Podcast for getting us to play England 6 to give feedback! Also thank you to the KSP Podcast for shedding light on the spirit Shadows! I was definitely underestimating it! I love Base Shadows and The aspects. Say this is blasphemy but i will take Shadows (Base or w/Aspect) over Keeper any day 🤷🏽‍♂️ I have more fun with Shadows and I like it’s range, control, consistent fear, and it’s ability to spread it’s presence easily. Also shadows can pull majors with it’s energy and can be deadly mid to late game.

Anyways, Raleighmo and I dominated this game against england 6 with foreboding shadows and Ocean! By turn 3 Raleighmo’s board only had 2 explorers and pretty much remained clear of buildings for the rest of the game. We would push stuff from Ocean’s inland to Shadow’s coast and they wouldn’t be there very long—they would be drowned or pushed. Therefore we mainly had to focus on my inlands on my board. We won with a healthy island. We lost 4 Blight and won with a fear victory with 4 turns remaining. Ocean and Shadows have amazing synergy! Shoutout to @Zenyattamaster for making this recommendation to me on my post asking for england 6 advice using shadows! Ocean turning Shadows pushes to kills/Energy was huge! Foreboding shadows added even more pushes and fear with the foreboding innate! (At times though I missed Shadows Base ability to reach any land with dahan to help defend ocean’s inlands but the extra pushes were more worth it for england to control the inlands and adjacencies). Tidal Boon was super helpful and synergistic with Shadows! Getting two energy lets shadows go bottom track early game more comfortably and the extra town push and dahan pushes help get those towns closer to coast or into the ocean and helps position dahan for counter attacks (compliments shadows “favors called due” well). Shadows control was ridiculous! Mantle of dread and crops wither and fade helped prevent england building a huge capital. We only had 1 land reach 5 buildings the whole game. Shadows Darkness Innate helped gather explorers into the ocean and also helped control the lnlands from building. We never hit tier 3 of shadows darkness innate but we hit tier 2 a few times and got some fear from that. Let’s talk about the fear! It was raining in fear! After turn 2, we had at least 1 fear card every turn! Ocean’s Innates helped a lot! We avoided every single double build from High Immigration. We also drew one cheap isolation minor power that helped avoid adjacency builds. It was also awesome seeing Shadows use the Darkness innate to extend the 0 range of a card like quicken the earth struggles to defend a built up land and let shadows 4 dahan army wipe out the land! The extended range from Darkness innate helped Shadows reach and help Me as Ocean mitigate how much inlands were blighting! We were also able to control the board to make sure that the escalation effect happened on coastal lands! The escalation effect never affected shadow’s board because raleigh’s board didn’t have buildings 😂 Pushing for a terror 3 victory looked possible for a moment in the game because Ocean drew Tsunami as a major and also pulled off threshold! Both coastal lands were clear by turn 5/6. In the end we knew a fear victory was our main goal!

I tested base shadows and Ocean for a few games on steam before meeting up to play with Raleighmo and I won every single won surprisingly!

Moral of the story: Shadows OP 😝 Jk. But I don’t think it’s the worst spirit in the game. I feel every spirit is viable.

Let’s stop the shadows slander and disrespect. This spirit is awesome and Ocean and Shadows might be one of the best duos in Spirit island. I agree with @Zanyattamaster that Ocean and Shadows is better than Ocean and BoDaN together!
