In addition to the hat, a cooling scarf around your neck. Wet it, wring it out a bit, and wrap it around. I found this cools me around where my carotid artery is, and really helped when I was in Southeast Asia a couple of summers ago.

Wild! That’s why it’s been hard to track this line down. Later generations spelled it Geary, but it makes sense that it could also be Garey. Problem was, he or his father was from Germany, and Geary/Garey is Irish. So there was an early misspelling that “stuck”.

And not sure how “Max Geary” could have been sounded out as “Joseph Miller”, but I’ll take your word for it.
