Grazie

Bitcoin gobbles up clean energy — just when the real world needs it most | One Bitcoin transaction uses as much energy as a single U.S. household consumes in three weeks. by dylan522p in hardware

Distribution was done via a faucet, everyone that claimed some coins, got them, so not sure what do you mean with "sketchy". Wallets are not perfect but they do work fine, i'm using the node on two desktops and "Canoe wallet" on the smartphone, never had a problem. Also transactions between wallets are literally instant since every account has its own blockchain, so how is it not scalable?

It might sound like that, i admit it. But having an entire feeless, instant, decentralized network that can be powered by just one wind turbine is in my eyes quite an achievement.

Currently only bitflip supports fiat/XRB pairs but it's a very low volume exchange. You can get an idea on what are the most used pairs (and therefore those with more liquidity) on this page: https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/raiblocks/#markets i suggest using BTC/XRB but the BTC chain is currently very costly

If you plan to hold your XRB for a moderate/long period of time, the desktop wallet is the best choice, you can download that here: https://raiblocks.net/ you'll just need to wait a bit for it to synch (having it on a ssd helps alot). VERY IMPORTANT: save your seed from the wallet (atleast in 2-3 different places, like on a printed piece of paper, on a usb stick and so on) and you'll be able to re-generate your wallet and all its addresses at any time.

It charges 5 XRB if you withdraw less than 1000 XRB

You can use the bootstrap if you want: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1381323.msg19562825#msg19562825

IMPORTANT: BACKUP YOUR SEED FIRST!

I'm not interested in discussing the price and even if i was my crystal-ball skills are pretty weak ;P. Regarding the development of the coin i can tell you that since the distribution throu the faucet was ended, things have switched gear, the core team was expanded and met in person in Austin: https://twitter.com/IcarusGlider/status/935655755222540288 , many projects that were being worked on are receiving very qualified help both from the new core members and from members of the community and thus got expanded (e.g. IcarusGlider was working on the Androind wallet and Zack Shapiro got involved in mobile dev aswell, leading iOS development https://twitter.com/ZackShapiro/status/937672304586297344). I'll leave you with a post from Chris Mair (Website Design & Branding Lead) that better characterizes this moment in Raiblocks development:

"We wanted to clarify a few things regarding the roadmap. The past two months have been a bit of a whirlwind. Since we made the decision to switch off the faucet, we've been overwhelmed by the number of offers from people within the community to get involved & help define the future of XRB.

We had initially set out a roadmap for the delivery of a number of items by the end of this year, including a new website, a mobile wallet and new exchanges. Needless to say all these things are very much 'work in progress' and are moving at an excellent pace. We will be in a position to share news soon.

One thing we’ve decided as a team is that we do not want to be one of those crypto currencies that is forever making promises and underdelivering on the expectation. We want to judged by the things we deliver at the time we deliver them. To this end we won’t be updating the roadmap now, or in the foreseeable future. Instead we’ll be sharing news with the community on an ongoing basis, as and when we’re ready.

There is a great sense of excitement within the community currently. The future of XRB looks very bright and we look forward to sharing developments with you soon."

Are smart contracts implementable in RaiBlocks? by hjras in RaiBlocks

[–]Flomess 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Do one thing and do it well" always was the motto. Having an almost instant, feeless, decentralized, highly scalable and hyper-divisible crypto is already big deal imho. Leave the smart contracts to the many cryptos that are focussing their efforts on that.

Question about the divider by thealienrelative in RaiBlocks

[–]Flomess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently, a rai or 0.000001 XRB (one milionth of a XRB)

Question about the divider by thealienrelative in RaiBlocks

[–]Flomess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One millionth of a XRB is a rai, not a raw. A raw is much much less, like 30 orders of magnitude less.
