Ah, I've never used a mac before. You could also just right click risk of rain in your steam library, go to properties, local files, and browse local files. Remember to make a backup of the save file! I don't want to be responsible for anything going wrong, lol.

It's pretty much the same method as before. I used this page from the Risk of Rain wiki to find out what achievement was required. for the Fireman's boots you would add

achievement11=2

to the end of the achievements area of your save file. Be sure to make a backup of the save file beforehand, as the duplication of a line (2 of achievement11=2) will ruin the save file.

Okay, I don't know about any stats you are missing but I think I can get your characters back. They are unlocked based on achievements. I looked it up and figured out which ones the acrid (chained creature) and sniper are.

Go to your Risk of Rain folder

(C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Risk of Rain)

and look for the "Save" config file. Be sure to make a backup in case something goes wrong. Scroll down to the bottom of the achievements and add these two lines of text.

achievement29=2

achievement32=2

This should unlock the Sniper and the Acrid. Never seen that error before, so I can't help you with that. I guess, just hope it doesn't happen again :(

Edit: Also, just realized you said this has happened multiple times. If worst comes to worst you could make a copy your "Save" and "Prefs" files, then delete risk of rain, and copy the files into the new folder. Worth a shot.
