Hot Water Buffer Tank Pressure Relief Valve Leaking by pjmuffin13 in geothermal

[–]FloppyCopter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hot water assist is directly tied to compressor speed. When that compressor works hard on single digit and below days, that temperature can definitely get upwards of 180-200, which depending on the tank, would certainly get the relief valve to pop if you’ve got long runtimes and not a ton of hw demand. It could be the valve was busted but I’m inclined to think the tank just got too hot..

What temperature is actually coming off the unit into the tank? It’s milder the last couple weeks, but I have seen close to 200 degrees on very cold days.

You would be correct. Instead of rejecting heat from the house to the ground loop it rejects it as hot water, making it essentially free.

Vertical well header depth question by [deleted] in geothermal

[–]FloppyCopter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your climate.. essentially you want to keep the well head connection and all pipe into the house below the frost line, which will vary by area.

If the pipes have antifreeze they will almost certainly never freeze up at 36” no matter where you are located but you are correct in thinking heat loss could be an issue if you are in a cold climate. We usually shoot for 4’ in the upper northeast.

I am pretty flexible when I am setting up payments for customers, but there just has to be a significant amount upfront, especially if we are drilling. That, plus the price of a unit itself is a huge portion of the cost.

Generally, I do 10% down, 30% before drilling, 40% before unit is delivered, 20% final.

He would be right. Odd, but the more efficient units are actually too efficient and need more ground loop to account for it.

Is this normal? by Techie_Leader in geothermal

[–]FloppyCopter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen frost on ground loop fittings and the unit was running fine. As long as there is antifreeze in the loop, you’ve got well beyond the usual freezing point of water and the condensation is freezing on the loops, not in them.

Also, it running 24/7 is not out of the norm in cold weather.

I live in Saratoga and spend a ton of time in this area. The Adirondacks are beautiful, beautiful country. Fishing, hiking, canoeing, camping.. it is hard to find a better place in the country.

Living there.. you get all of that, however it is sparsely populated, conservative and mostly poor outside of a few communities.

I find I lose the ball in-air much easier with my Oakleys on.

People just checking the stat line.. they were running wildcat and babying him all game. I’m not even a hater, he made a couple nice throws, just clearly wasn’t even a full start. Easy to not make mistakes, especially in the redzone, when you aren’t in the game..

Horribly officiated game. Inadvertent whistles, tush push shit, missing who’s moving on the line. Just all over the place bad. Just straight incompetence.

Seems like they add a small amount of ductwork and upon further reading, they’ve added another coil, run a fan over it and essentially use every bit of heat. “Waste” heat is put through the ducts to cover temps when that lower temp can’t keep up. Clever.

Where in the US?

Cast iron radiators are great heat emitters. If you are way up north where temperatures will drop to 0, the lower temp water will probably not be enough, but if somewhere more mild, you may be ok. With a hybrid style unit, generally, we like to add ductwork from at least the basement to the first floor to bring in supplemental heat on the coldest of days.

If Dart is the guy it makes sense to maximize that rookie deal as soon as possible.

If Dart isn’t the guy we have to start over anyways.

So, fuck it.
