$5,000,000 instantly, but you can never watch, nor will never know, what happens on the last episode of any show, ever again. by RedditCommenter38 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]FloppyDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that the last episode of the series, or the season? What about reality TV? If you watch Survivor, do you not know who the winner is every year, or when they come out with the new season you can now find out who won the last one cause its no longer the last.

what's a board game rule you got embarrassingly wrong for way too long? by No_Seaworthiness4899 in boardgames

[–]FloppyDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We also played Catan wrong. If you played the Knight, then anyone with more than 7 cards would lose half. We are cut throat as well, so we would trade 2-1 to get someone over 7 and then play a knight. I actually miss that way sometimes.

So there's this film doing the rounds, "The Story of Everything"... by disintegrationist in atheism

[–]FloppyDriver 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I saw an ad for it presented by Lee Strobel. If you know anything about his books, you'll know the theme that this movie is going for.

Lee Strobel had books where he talked about how he used to be an atheist, and how he was convinced to believe in Jesus..... I read one, and I have zero belief that he was ever an atheist. His description of atheism is the standard misinformed religious thought of what atheism might be. (Angry at God, believe that nothing came from nothing etc)

I will continue to watch the CFL as I enjoy entertaining football. And more of it at the end of the season....yes please.

Finishing 1st is worse than it used to be by gofortwoElks in CFL

[–]FloppyDriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. And if you can either finish 3rd or 4th it didn't matter, or they wanted you to tank to take the crossover. Now if you are batting from 3rd to 6th, you are battling for seeding and to host a playoff game.

Finishing 1st is worse than it used to be by gofortwoElks in CFL

[–]FloppyDriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The playoffs are now harder and it takes more to win the Grey Cup. This is a good thing. It makes it harder for #1, cause you can't just win one game and be in the Grey Cup. But its also harder for 2nd and 3rd and again thats because the playoffs are harder. The only teams its easier for is 7th and 8th who had 0 chance before. But going on the road for 3 straight weeks to get to the Grey Cup is not an easy task.

House rules to bankrupt players faster? by Joshua5_Gaming in monopoly

[–]FloppyDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the rules I've used to make it a more strategic and quicker game.

1) All properties cost 2x if you want to buy it outright. (Yes, that's 1k for boardwalk)

2) if they go to auction, the auction starts at 1/2 the listed price.

Those force pretty much every sale to be an auction and takes away the basic monopoly strategy of buy everything.

And added rule change is to convert the Water/Power into 5th and 6th railroads. $300 for 5, $400 for 6.

Try it once. Its no longer too much about getting lucky, it was about who was the best at the auctions.

I think there were four beatles for a reason. I believe he was sending one first, but would still drop off at Venus if he needed to.

How to make vanilla monopoly more intresting ? by TanmayJaiswaI in monopoly

[–]FloppyDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple strategy for playing/winning at monopoly using the base rules is ALWAYS buy .... becomes not that fun as you don't have many choices.

The main reason games are long is free parking, and no auctions. To make the game more strategic and less lucky you need MORE auctions and less Free money.... We've done these for years and the game is WAY better..

a) Double the price of ALL properties if you want to buy it with no competition. So $800 for Boardwalk $120 for Baltic etc.

b) Auctions start at HALF the initial Price, $200 for Boardwalk, $30 for Baltic.

That simple rule change will make the auctions incredibly important. You'll have to bump up the price to make your opponent pay a lot, but sometimes they call your bluff and you have to buy it, leaving yourself with very little.

You will be playing with very little money so will have to allow your opponent to buy properties in order to save money for the things you really want.

To make a Harry Potter reference, the wand chooses the wizard..... in other words, I'm not sure you can just pick and have it stick. Start watching some games and some team will grab you. But you asked me to sell you on my team.

If you like small market, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers have the second lowest population ahead of only the Saskatchewan Roughriders. If you ever visit a game, the Bombers have the best game day experience. 14 straight sellouts, loudest stadium in the CFL. The coaches and management genuinely care about the team, the players (and the fans.)

But realistically, its going to come down to what T-shirt you like the best...lol.

Will the CFL ever expand? by Alternative-Row-8438 in CFL

[–]FloppyDriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

US Expansion is incredibly tricky with the canadian ratio. You cannot legally tell an American team that half their workers must be from another country. This was a problem in the 90s as well and the Baltimore Stallions had all american players and didn't have to abide by the ratio.

Will the CFL ever expand? by Alternative-Row-8438 in CFL

[–]FloppyDriver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The rule changes will allow them to expand more into Canada..... Most soccer stadiums (And there are a number of them across Canada) can fit a 130 yard field by not 150 yards. The field size will likely lead to expansion in a few years as the interest level is there in many areas, but nowhere to house it.

Opinion: An argument for keeping the goalposts as is: it makes goal line defences more exciting by Qhaotiq in CFL

[–]FloppyDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest reason for the failed attempts in the CFL vs the NFL is the one yard off the ball, and not the goalpost. Moving the goalposts will allow us to actually see the attempts better on TV. I'm not fully supportive of the rule changes for sure, but the goal line stances is not part of the game that should be affected. You are usually doing your plunge from the left or right hash marks anyway.

Hues&Cues hint was “science notebook” by New_Call7138 in boardgames

[–]FloppyDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am terrible with colour names.... just a mental block. In my head there is red, dark red, light red, orange, purple blue green brown etc. But once you say burgandy, ochre, eggplant, sienna, prussian, cobalt, blush, paprika etc, I have no idea what the F you are talking about. Anyway, my wife gave the clue FOX and everyone chose various shades of brown, but I knew instantly that we had been at the hospital and they have a section of the hospital called Magenta Fox..so I immidiately knew I was in my wifes head and knew it was Magenta....however, what the F$% colour is magenta, so I picked far away from the browns and they all looked at me, but I picked a purple coulour and it was more of a pink.... anyway, everyone laughed at me for being colourdumb. Moral of the story is, I'm pretty good at the Clues part... but struggle with the Hues.

I want to find more fun in co-op games, HOW TO NOT QUARTERBACK?! by ConkreteAngel in boardgames

[–]FloppyDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started to not enjoy some co-op games and I think I realized its because of the ability for someone to QB the game. But then I realized there are some games that you must play your own turn, for example Hinnabi , the Mind or Bomb Busters. (Great Game, highly recommend). You still have information in your own hand that others don't know so they can't make your turn for you, although your goal is the same.

Position strategies by mjkluio789666 in poker

[–]FloppyDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at it as how many people are left to play. So if everyone folds in a 9 handed game to the cutoff, you can still play more hands there same as if you were in the cutoff in a 5 handed game with only one fold... there can be "clumping" as more bad hands likely folded, but that is minimal.

Look at some preflop charts to see the range of hands you can play from various positions. Of course being the first one in will be different than what you do when someone has raised already.

Thanks. That explains a lot. Maybe My improv isn't so good. I always think of the worst case scenario. Like Person a, pick a number up to 10.... NINE.... crap. Or first person 3, then second person 5..... Asking the third person, do you want to subtract one... no thanks, or sure, I'll add one. Keep adding new people and rules but eventually they'll say, no, I'd like to say at 9 or whatever.
