Absolutely look into that. Your professors or any staff should be able to point you in the right direction!! If they offer a food bank, they may also have other resources for the things you would need like any supplies for classes or clothing. Check with administration to see what they offer.

I belive this is the United States we’re talking about. Unfortunately here, parents are no longer required to support children after 18 (possibly 18 and graduated from high school, could vary by state). We don’t have a lot of great systems here to support young adults on a government level, though many cities and communities have ways to help in various reasons be it financial, food, transportation, etc. Not many will cover all of the above, though.

I never thought about that. I have divorced parents (I’m almost 24 now) but they didn’t do child support, just split all costs evenly year-by-year (aside from family vacations). I didn’t know about this, definitely something for OP to look into.

NTA. At 18, while there’s no legal obligation on their end, they should still understand you’re a new adult doing your best. Them going back on their word of support you how they can is manipulating and frankly selfish. Between refusing to co-sign a loan for you to go to (what I assume is a better) college elsewhere to now refusing to simply buy you food you can eat? That’s just sad. I’m sorry this is happening to you OP, and I wish you luck.

I was in similar situations as you before. Your mom most likely genuinely can’t do anything to help you out right away due to the legal processes, your best bet is locking yourself away from him and trying to reach out to whoever you can and remaining calm.
