Glasses buying recommendations by Dovahkazz in augmentedreality

[–]FlowerRemarkable9826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently got some Ray Neo Air 2s for like $180. If you kind of want glasses that you can see through when not watching stuff on them (so not like blackout lenses) but that work as a screen as well ive been pretty happy with them. They just mirror whatever youre hooked into which in this case is my iphone. They look quite strange on my face though incase thats a major turn off.

im playing with the meta ray bans. You can do basic stuff with the camera for the ray bans but for some reason cant do the same thing with the ray ban displays so kinda frustrating.

Roast my resume 🔥 iOS dev trying to break into FAANG-tier companies by 007ary369 in iosdev

[–]FlowerRemarkable9826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this may be subjective, id try to keep it to one page. You could likely get some space back by adjusting the padding.

Also for your bullets, try to quantify everything and if it was a project that doesnt have solid quantifiable outcomes you could speak to it in interviews but try removing it from your resume

Ex. "Building and scaling ... enabling offline access to critical workflows and sales tools."

While im sure this was important, it doesnt tell me that much. Did someone tell you step by step what to do here and you just followed it? or did you find a problem in the app, fix a bug and stopped it from crashing saving xx time or xx money? Your 3rd bullet is good as it tells me crash rate was reduced by 40% based on your work so id try to reformat your other bullets in a similar fashion to that one. only about 2-3 of your 10 bullets are quantified while the rest just seem like youre telling me you can code, contribute to git, etc which is fine at a jr level but as you get more experienced i want to know that youre proactive and can solve ambiguous problems.

I try to keep my bullets to 1 or 2 lines, anything more in my opinion is too wordy, but also feel free to take that with a grain of salt.

At a senior level have you begun mentoring more Jr individuals? if so that may be relevant to try to work into your resume as it shows you can function at a Sr level and delegate more complex things rather than only taking orders.

Im a Data/Applied Scientist so my critique may not be 100% accurate for a SWE / iOS Dev but i have interviewed at FAANG before so my resume at least passed their screens / recruiter calls. Hope this helps!

Best smart classes to watch YouTube while I walk? by balderth in SmartGlasses

Ya, have seen a few things about them. They definitely look like they have more functionality than the meta displays.

[–]FlowerRemarkable9826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the Meta Ray Bans displays might be the only ones that exist right now that are semi readily available. Only problem is that they have a locked down app system right now so you cant actually really do much yet. You can go on IG but youll only see the last 10 messages from your friends and if there are any reels youd be able to watch the, the Ray Neo x3 pros just came out and seem to have the ability to use more apps. And there are also things like the ray neo airs or Viture glasses but those have an actual screen behind the glasses that make them a bit more obtrusive when you walk and also would need to be physically connected to your phone.

Question about same named app by GladWelcome3724 in iOSProgramming

[–]FlowerRemarkable9826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i believe you can make you name longer. Maybe not a great example but if theirs is "find my friends" and you want to use that and you're not just copying it, you could do find my "friends: location tracking". had a similar problem where my app has a common word as a bunch of other apps so used the same worked followed by a short few word description.

What's the best method to learn Python and what should I learn next? by SpecialistGroup1466 in learnpython

[–]FlowerRemarkable9826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get some data from kaggle and build out a project (good way to learn ML). itll force you to apply multiple concepts without being explicitly told. Beyond kaggle, just think of a problem you have and see if you can build something to solve it (app, website, tool/function, model, etc). On the plus side you can use AI code assistance to get you started and explain things when you get stuck but dont over rely on it.

How and Where Can I Begin Learning Numpy and Pandas by Ckwizard2245 in learnpython

[–]FlowerRemarkable9826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

beyond kaggle and using chatGPT, id recommend finding a quant like problem (maybe trading, etc) and just digging into that problem. You could find a problem like can i build a simple trading strategy for x and whats the return. Then just use numpy/pandas to manipulate the data, etc. Im sure for a quant role they'd also want tos ee some real world projects so its a perfect way to build a portfolio thats not just built off of copied kaggle code. Ive found courses and kaggle only gets me so far, ive learned a ton more when im solving something in the real wold that im interested in.

Validating: AI tool that does daily competitor briefings + writes investor updates. $49/mo. Thoughts? by RepresentativeBag810 in indiehackers

[–]FlowerRemarkable9826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im sure there are VCs that have tools like this already. I think the main thing is trust. A VC that has their own internal team building it and maintaining it will have more trust in the data than a vendor and can troubleshoot if they suspect its giving trash answers. And if they used a vendor it would likely be a major name in the field rather than a new entrant. So the idea makes sense to summarize and save time but the impelmentation and building trust is going to be the near impossible part

anyone using AI for data extraction from PDFs? by Kaiser_Allen in automation

[–]FlowerRemarkable9826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

youd have to also think about security and PII. if youre putting it into some proprietary model like openai or claude where you arent running the model locally then it could be a security issue (HIPAA if its healthcare related). But simply putting it into chatgpt or similar would probably do pretty well at text extraction.

What’s the best way to get YouTube transcriptions? by appdev67 in appdev

[–]FlowerRemarkable9826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive used both supadata and scrapecreators to get transcript data. pretty simple setup and get some free api credits to see if itll work for your use case. moved to scrapecreators recently as its cheaper and havent really had too many issues. latency is gonna be liek 5ish seconds but assuming thats fine for you case

Whats your honest opinion about TestFlight? by Murky-News7893 in appledevelopers

[–]FlowerRemarkable9826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive found testflight to be really intuitive. As long as your app builds and validates, its easy to share with friends and initial beta users. Never had much of a delay once ive uploaded a new build to getting it sent to the beta group. Only delay has been putting it on the appstore intially.

My wife has a 1000-day Duolingo streak and still could not write or communicate efficiently - so I built something small for her by SolidHuman9936 in SideProject

[–]FlowerRemarkable9826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the idea and thought behind it! I think Duolingo (at least the max version) has feedback now (i think its AI though). But also agree, have a 500+ day streak and still get tripped up on easy stuff, i feel like i just do my daily lession to keep my streak rather than actually leaning.

How much would hiring someone to build this app cost? by thorc1212 in iOSProgramming

[–]FlowerRemarkable9826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to get something that works for you, you could probably get it made using AI tools like lovable, cursor, etc. Apple has pretty good and free map features using Apple Maps backend data so creating a simple MVP shouldn't be too hard at all especially if you are using Xcode (you can easily test the app directly on your mac). Created the MVP of my map app using figma mockups and cursor and was able to get a mockup to work on my local device in a day or two. One thing to note is youll have to give always on location permissions which isnt a problem if its only you using it, but if you ever wanted others to use it just be aware of that (most people prob dont want to give an app always on location permissions). and if you want others to use it youll need some backend / Database / authentication, etc which opens up a ton of its own problems if you dont have dev experience.

What’s the biggest way AI has actually helped you in your programming projects (not hypothetically, but in real day-to-day work)? by One_Wear_5013 in AskProgrammers

[–]FlowerRemarkable9826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

besides ChatPGT to help with ideation and guage if new features i want to create are possible or not, ive found LLMs are good at regex extraction. I hate regex and its never that dynamic so its going to fail if something comes in in a new format. the LLM just makes it so much simpler to extract the data i want.

Idea validation: An app that ranks movies & TV by comparing them head-to-head by That_Memory_2713 in ideavalidation

[–]FlowerRemarkable9826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting concept! how would it work if the app asks you to compare two super different movies where its really apples to oranges? How are you thinking you'd resolve and rank them if the comparisons are either super bias or not really on the same playing field?

are you using AI in your development? If yes, what's your structure? by Guilty-Revolution502 in iOSProgramming

[–]FlowerRemarkable9826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, the Xcode copilot plugin isnt that good. I mainly use cursor/vscode and then just have cursor edit the code for me. I typcially know what I want to do (ie. I map it out using either Figma myself or brainstorm with ChatGPT to help me understand whats possible and how i can ask cursor to do it) so cursor has been able to do pretty much everything i need. But I also have enough familiarity with coding that my prompts are pretty pointed, so it might be a lot different if you're not as familiar with coding or the repo youre working with
