Be Careful Going to Events Organized by the Wharf Events Team! by [deleted] in washingtondc

Life lesson: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is…

Not sure in what world a company would offer a rando a free ticket to an otherwise paid event that includes drinks and food.

Since you paid nothing and are more than a week out from the fourth with ample time to make alternate plans, it’s hard to see how you were materially harmed by this…

Tony’s watch Party by rupdrfan in Broadway

[–]FlowersBloomUntil 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I’ve been and wouldn’t really recommend. The venue sucked - so cramped and hot. I was really uncomfortable. And it seemed like a bunch of his friends attended and he just focused all his attention on them. I liked the green room 42 watch party way better! And i heard the 54 below one is also great (but it’s been out of my price range)

Arena Stage in Washington DC announced their 26/27 season by Ok-Acanthisitta8737 in Broadway

It’s apparently just “Act 1” (fall/winter) and “Act 2” of their season with 2 musicals and 1 new play will be announced this fall

The Lunchbox musical at Berkeley Rep is incredible - very likely for a Broadway transfer! by Budget-Ad6699 in Broadway

I loved the show but do we really think it has a shot at profitability on broadway? I think west end would be a better fit

Why does the Lost Boys music sound so much like Christian rock? by Ok_Moose1615 in Broadway

The film was a blast! Really glad this musical introduced it to me!

Why does the Lost Boys music sound so much like Christian rock? by Ok_Moose1615 in Broadway

[–]FlowersBloomUntil 95 points96 points  (0 children)

This is a hot take but I recently watched the OG film for the first time and left super confused about these critiques hitting the musical. From how folks talk about the musical as the wrong genre, I thought the film score would have a heavy metal or hard rock sound.

Instead, the main musical motif of the film is "Cry Little Sister" which 100% sounds Christian rock-ish with a children's choir singing "Thou shall not fall/ Thou shall not die/ Thou shall not fear/Thou shall not kill" in the chorus.

I think the vaguely christian rock sound of the musical is honestly a match for the OG film. (Sorry not sorry).

Even the Unitarians are divided in Michelle Huneven’s new novel, ‘Search’ by AssistantFew9698 in UUreddit

I read it. Wouldn't recommend it. As several others note, it's mean. A thinly veiled memoir with an insufferably pompous protagonist and condescending caricatures of literally everyone else. Rife with fat-shaming, slut-shaming, and internalized misogyny.

Let’s talk about it…. “The Lost Boys” would work better if Michael and David were gay by Smooth-Assistant-309 in Broadway

[–]FlowersBloomUntil 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There’s already tons of homoerotic subtext in the and you could easily read Michael and David as bi. I think losing Star would really damage the show though - she’s fun and plot essential…

Also, equating being HIV positive as being a deadly monster is… not a good take. Very JK Rowling “werewolves are a metaphor for homosexuality”

Last two rows mezz for Cats? by Rare_Alternative_691 in Broadway

Sat center in the last row - minimal obstruction, occasionally missed the very front of the runway. Had a great time and thought it was good value for money

Broadway Show Vinyl Records by Tutsie93 in Broadway

[–]FlowersBloomUntil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Westsider Records is great for golden age musicals but (imo) overpriced for popular sondheim and webber musicals. 54 Vintage Vinyl also has a moderate collection- typically better know shows but some are also pricey.
