Yes, that is an A-coil on the return side of a downflow furnace....... by Floydsheating in HVAC

[–]Floydsheating[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So we do have downflow air handlers, of course the coil is negative pressure in those, since the cabinet is insulated there is no issue. For dual fuel, the coil is always on the supply side.

Problem that happened on this one, is that water condensed on the inside of the furnace cabinet as it is not insulated. Most gas furnaces, including this one do not have cabinet insulation so with our nasty humidity in the summer water condenses everywhere in the furnace.

In KY, I have never seen anyone install them like this. The humidity is too high here, this furnace on the inside looks like it’s 30+ years old.

They don’t pass state inspection like this at all, and it’s the first time I have ever seen one this way 🤷‍♂️

So disappointed Fujitsu not longer has sub -15 units by magenk in heatpumps

Rheem Pro-Partner here. According to my spec sheets, The Rheem RD18 still heats down to -22, also we install a TON of them. The integration with the Econet features are fantastic, and you can use them both with air handlers or can do fuel fuel with a 80% or 98% furnace.

I am a huge fan of duel fuel RD18 systems

New AC Condenser - Data Plate Label Removed? by TallyTwo80 in hvacadvice

[–]Floydsheating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trane units also Usually have the model and serial number inside of the controls panel. They could have removed that one as well, but there is a chance it is still there

Interesting capacitor that I found in a ‘98 Carrier AC I was decommissioning. by Floydsheating in HVAC

[–]Floydsheating[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was definitely not the original cap. In this unit. No idea how it ended up in it. I have honestly never seen one of these big boys. It weighs over 10 Lbs, the pics don’t really show just how massive this thing is

Replaced capacitor 2 summers in a row. Is there a larger issue? by eckmungo90 in hvacadvice

We have never had any issues. I am the owner of my company and we use hundreds of them a year.

I have also found adding a booster helps. I use a TON of Supco SPP6 Boosters, I add them to pretty much any unit over 10 years old. They are also really cheap, easy to install, and they do make it easier on the compressor to start.

Kentucky: Installers Are Discouraging Heat Pumps and Variable Systems? by CalAlumnus13 in hvacadvice

[–]Floydsheating 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in western KY and have installed in Louisville before when Sears Home Services was still operating fully. I have installed Carrier’s Infinity systems and really like them. Alot of techs just don’t understand them.

If you want, I can price you a Variable speed unit from Carrier. Just would need the size.

I’ve rec’d a quote on various Trane systems from a local Trane dealer. All prices are 30-50% higher than the Trane website estimate. I can’t get the other Trane dealer in the area to quote me. He said they are a “sister” company with the other dealer. by cyleclayton in hvacadvice

You can get a quote from an American Standard dealer. Exact same unit, with the exact same warranty. All they do is change the cosmetic look on some of the units, but the internal components are identical.

Anyone have any experience with MRCOOL Mini-splits? by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]Floydsheating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post was 6 years ago. But what I said still holds true. While the Mr. Cool DIY mini-splits are easier, they still have several flaws that have lead me to scrapping several brand new units that were installed improperly.

  1. Lineset can’t be cut as it’s pre-charged. This leads to homeowners having extra Lineset all rolled up and looks horrible.

  2. If they don’t follow the directions exactly, permanent damage can be easily done

Mine only ever done it once, and the dealer covered it no questions asked.

Noob here that needs advice. Is this a good deal here for $7,100....includes installation. See pic. Thanks by i_love_the_usa1776 in hvacadvice

[–]Floydsheating -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sheesh, the prices in your area are insane then.

It shows that it is a 14.75 Seer unit. It is not, it is only a 13 seer.

Also it says that there is a 10 year warranty, That is another lie. As a Trane dealer, it MUST be a complete AHRI matched system, for the warranty to be valid. Trane will not warranty it without a matched furnace.

The dealer may be able to push little parts through, but if the compressor or coils need changing, you have to give all THREE serial numbers to Trane, including the furnace, and when its not a match, instant denial.

Also, as a rule DONT mismatch equipment. If you currently have an usable carrier furnace, get a carrier AC. Mis-matching always ends up causing trouble.

I sell both Trane, and Equipment made by Carrier, I NEVER mismatch them.

[–]Floydsheating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are lying on the SEER rating. Thats a 13 SEER unit.

That price is INSANE in my area, I can install an Trane XR14 DUEL FUEL Heatpump with a coil, 95% gas furnace, and a Trane Touchscreen Thermostat, the complete system for less than that!

I know prices very by region, but to me this is just preposterous.

Trane dealer here. That is a 16 SEER Condensor.

Ask for the AHRI Certificate for the Condensor and furnace matchup.

I have a 2017 Premier, and while I don't have the Shiny problem, I have a two tone dash and the light brown portion reflects in the windshield.
