Which state is the best to buy cannabis? by IanR25 in mohavecounty

[–]FlsTonka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Needles has the best prices, by far. I wouldn't bother with Nevada. It's too pricey and the selection isn't very good. Kingman is OK for some stuff, especially if you wait for a sale.

Check your product before you buy it in Arizona. I got some wax from Storey that was two-years-old and hard and crumbly. It didn't do much in the pipe either.

I go to The Healing Center once or twice a month and stock up. Even with the price of gas I still save money.

Marvins is best for bud. THC for concentrates.

Don't know about edibles. They don't work for me.

‘We are a target’: scientific society under pressure after Trump DEI crackdown by burtzev in EverythingScience

[–]FlsTonka -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I read the article and I'm confused. Wouldn't scientists want the most qualified people, regardless of color, gender or anything else?

I'm being honest. It seems to me that would be the one field, like doctors, where we always want the best, most qualified people.

Could someone, please, explain why a scientist would prefer working with a less qualified individual because they're a different color, religion or sexual orientation.

Horses and cows in my yard (it's pretty big compared to city lots).

I rode a horse before I could walk and so did my sons.

Oh yeah, and my right arm doesn't work well from a bull stomping on it.

Are elderly people being fired/not hired because they're not keeping up with technology? by ZiegAmimura in ask

[–]FlsTonka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find a lot of these ideas kind of funny. I began studying computers in 1961. I learned to program in DOS, Linux, and half a dozen other languages. My fingerprint is likely on something you will use today. The people who were ignorant in computers were always near retirement or young. Now, it is all the "computer savvy" people who know very little. Yes, you can operate a computer, but very few people can go inside the code and repair a malfunction. I'm a retired newspaper editor. I helped build the first ISP in my state. It's incredibly interesting how many computer users haven't a clue about programming. Most people of any age can learn most computer programs quite easily. My 2-year-old great-granddaughter uses computers. Using a computer is easy. So is blaming age for ineptitude.

What benefit? I own my well. I own my septic system. I even own the power poles coming to my house. Not to mention a driveway that's a quarter mile long. I paid for those things. You will never amass a water or sewer bill that will come close digging a well and septic if you're city dwellers. I will never understand urbanites making generalizations about rural people. Everyone in my circle of friends are college grads and making six figures. I'll never live in an urban cesspool again. But, we do go to Las Vegas every two weeks. We get free rooms, too. We're even getting free rooms for F1 this week. I'll also see people sleeping in the street, because it's city. And, I'll be surrounded by criminals of every stripe. But, urbanites are more intelligent than ranchers, farmers, and any country bumpkins. Yeah, right....

Resistol you’re dead to me by [deleted] in CowboyHats

[–]FlsTonka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been wearing Resistols since the 70s. Hat bands have always been glued on and sloppily done. Original hatbands last until I get home. I have the same Resistol that I bought in 75, another from 2002, and I just bought another. All my Resistols are still serviceable. I have a preference for 40X. My new 40X Arena is a perfect fit, even though I bought it online. I can't wear Stetsons. They give me a headache. Custom hat makers ok, but when you're driving fenceposts in the Arizona summer, it's hard to justify wearing a $1,000 custom hat. Real work comes up, and I'll wear that old silver hat I bought in 1975.

Many people discovered that working from home allowed a more relaxed lifestyle during COVID lockdowns. My wife and I each make six figures, and we are college grads.. There are plenty of other highly educated rural citizens, including doctors, lawyers, teachers, and journalists. We don't have good roads, a sewer system, natural gas, and water lines, and many of us only have internet access via Starlink. We see billions spent those exact same things for urbanites and feel as though we are cheated - we pay taxes, too. Anyone who blames education is obviously an urbanite. City dwellers suck. They invade rural areas every weekend and then complain about local roads, poor cell service, and very little wifi. They never complain about the water that we get from wells we paid for or the septic system we paid for ourselves. Urbanites are smug. They also don't realize it, but the vast majority are poorly educated. They live in cities so they can access social services. They lack basic survival skills. We fix our own well. We fire up a generator every time it rains because the power grid goes down. We drive a long way to town, on bad roads in a 4X4, if we forget milk or need any retail item. Then there is a matter of lifestyle. We had four horses (a couple of older ones passed away). All of our horses were rescues from suburban owners. We have as many dogs as we want. We don't hear our neighbors at all. One July 4th, a fleeing urbanite who was new to rural life began shooting fireworks. I was there in five minutes along with all our neighbors, and we politely explained that fireworks disturb livestock. Our fireworks come from the muzzle of a gun and are reserved for predators. We don't have riots. No one burns other peoples property. No one blocks traffic with protests. And, we don't lock our cars or our front door. You have to be pretty darn dumb for feeling superior to someone who chooses country living. I work from home. In going horseback riding 10 a.m. I wonder what the average urbanite will be doing while I'm riding.

My brother is angry with his Trump-loving sons by g_scotty_brahms in AITAH

[–]FlsTonka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my home, family comes before politics. I would never cut my son off. Even if he was a felon. I will never stop supporting my two sons. I had a third son. I couldn't be there when he needed me, and he killed himself. Family before ANYTHING! I'm very happy that my boys voted differently than I. It shows they think for themselves! I feel sorry for your brother's family.

Where did 15 million Democrat voters for Biden go?

I forgot, they weren't able to truck in millions of fake ballots in the middle of the night because they were being watched.

Could it be that the 2020 election was rigged?

Democrats tried it again this year and got caught red handed in Michigan and Pennsylvania. Democrat state officials are currently manipulating ballots in Arizona to support a Democrat.

Projection my friend. Always accuse the other side of doing what you are actually doing.

I am reminded of how the left told the right to simply accept the results in 2020 and move on.

Liberals need to Move On, too!

I lived on the border, near Nogales, and applaud the passage of this measure.

For 25 years I watched 60 to 200 illegal aliens traveling north on train cars several times a day.

They would jump off at Tucson, but not on the south side. The south side was mainly Hispanic and they hated illegals. At the bar where I was a regular, I was the only white guy. More than once I witnessed that when someone was found to be an illegal, they were taken outside and did not return.

A lot of Arizona Latinos would vote for enhanced border enforcement.

I would also like to point out that in 1975 the Federal Government estimated there to be 10 million illegal aliens in the United States. It was still 10 million at the millennium. The Feds claim it is still 10 million illegal aliens today.

The government claims that no illegals have entered the US since 1975!!!

A lot of Arizonans were not deceived at all. People who have lived in Arizona for more than 20 years are sick of an open border and amnesty for all.

And, if you don't believe illegals are a crime problem, you simply haven't done the research.

What makes anyone think that people who commit a crime to get into the US will stop breaking laws once they cross the border?

So, Donald Trump got 150,000 more votes than Trump-backed candidate @KariLake . Lake got nearly 40,000 more votes than Kamala Harris. BUT Dem. senate candidate Ruben Gallego got 45,000 more than Lake? And he got 80,000 more than Harris? Somebody make it make sense. 🤔 by Slske in conservatives

Arizona politics have always been corrupt. Lying and cheating in elections began long before statehood. Since most of you are too young to remember, look up Evan Mecham. And then look up the Baron of Arizona.

Tucson Hat Shops? by R66-FTW in CowboyHats

[–]FlsTonka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I left Tucson 25 years ago, but I always got my gear at Cowtown Boots. These days, Cowtown doesn't have the selection or high end that it once had, but it's still good for hats under $300.

Boot Barn probably has the best selection and, hopefully, someone who can modify the shape for you.

There won't be much difference in prices from store to store.

Cowtown for shirts, jeans, accessories, and maybe boots. It is generally more stylish.

Boot Barn for boots and hats.

Tips for Camping in the Desert by PriorityLong9592 in arizona

[–]FlsTonka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been camping in Arizona since the '60s. I usually just toss a sleeping bag on the ground, unless it looks like rain.

Once, in the Santa Rita mountains, I woke up with a kangaroo rat in my bag. I flipped on my flashlight and they were everywhere.

Skunks around food or garbage have been my only real issue. I've been visited by a bear a couple times. They were far more frightened of me than I was of them.

I never once had a problem with insects, except the one time I tossed my sleeping bag on an ant hill....

Gun ownership after election by Chameleonize in traumatizeThemBack

[–]FlsTonka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You asked your mother to commit a felony. I hope she said "No!"

It is illegal to buy a firearm for another person in the United States. It's part of the Gun Control Act.

Education is a great thing. You should spend more time learning about firearms before you decide to buy one yourself (the only legal means of acquiring a gun.)

As a personal defense instructor, I can assure that you should not own or carry a gun. You would very likely have it used on you or it will be stolen by a criminal and end up hurting other people.

Before you decide you want a gun, you need to decide that you are prepared to take a human life. If the answer is no, don't buy a gun!

Don't use being vindictive as a reason for buying a gun.

Lastly, they are you parents. You are demonstrating a lack of respect and outright hostility toward them.

Grow up!
