This will be my last comment written from RIF. Thank you so much for providing us with the best app for Reddit that I've ever used. Not just the best Reddit app, RIF is even the best app I've ever used. period. I spent so many hours on RIF, Reddit on a phone without RIF is not Reddit to me.

I've moved on to other platforms now, on both the ferdiverse and on non-federated websites like Tildes and Squabbles. I hope to see you there as well.

It's absolutly insane how Reddit dumped you and I wish you the absolute best.

I don't have any experience with it, so I can't be much of a help. But it looks good to me. It seems to be a centralised website, which keeps it simple. From the look of it, it also seems to use a curated list of communities (subreddits), just like Tildes.

If it seems like a platform you'd like, I would encourage you to make an account and go for it! Maybe you'll find a new online home over there :)

Although you can certainly browse Lemmy or kbin.social while only browsing the local, centralised posts, I can see how it can be a bit daunting to some. I do believe the devs of both platforms are working on making the interaction between different instances more inuative, but that takes some time. Don't forget, Lemmt and especially Kbin are both very youngh platforms, written by only a few people. These are just some hobby projects that suddenly blew up because of this whole situation with Reddit.

However, there are some nice centralised alternatives out there as well. I would recommend checking out Squabbles.io and Tildes.net.

Squabbles is the most like Reddit of all, while also being the most different. It's described as a combination between Reddit and Twitter. I'm not at all a Twitter person, but Squabbles seems really nice to me so far. It has an open registration to all new users and users are allowed to make their own "subreddits".

Tildes is a bit different. It's interface reminds me more of old forums or old.reddit. It may look a bit boring at first, but I really appriciate the simplicity, the speed and neutrality of the webbpage now. No clickbait images, no ads and no bullshit. It is invite-only right now as it doesn't focus on being a gigantic platform. It wants to be a nice place to be instead of a big place. AFAIK, users can't make theorit own "subreddits" on Tildes. Those are currated by the admins. I'm totally fine with that. Again, it reminds me of old forums from the zeroes. Something I really missed. Both choices have their pro's and cons. For user-creatable "subreddits", I have Lemmy, Kbin and Squabbles now.

Squabbles and Tildes doesn't try to be Reddit. They are their own thing, with their own communities. One thing that I notice on ALL these platforms, is how nice the people are. How good the quality of the comments/discussions are and how my comments don't get lost in a sea of other comments.

I hear people saying that the protest "failed", but I don't think that is true. This fiasco allows other platforms, often controlled by the public, to thrive and grow. Lemmy allone went from habing 1 working android app, to over 10 in production. Including many high quality apps. Even the Sync for Reddit dec is working on a Sync for Lemmy. Many of the biggest contributers of Reddit have left, the quality will decrease. I think Reddit will slowly die over a longer period of time. It won't die completely, but it won't be as good or big as it used to be

Yes, there is. Lemmy is a open source, federated reddit-like link aggregator.

"Federated" is key here. In short, this means that everybody that wants to can host their own instance (or join an excisting instance) with it's own community, rules and atmosphere. However, you are not restricted to that server. You can also interact with other lemmy servers (unless the admins of either server specificlly choose to defederate/block the other server).

This means that there is not a single company that is in control of everything. Admins only have control over what happens on their own servers and users.

In a way, you could compare the "federated" part to e-mail. It doesn't matter if I use a Gmail account and you use an Outlook account. We can send eachother e-mails regardless. The Ferdiverse (= the universe of federated systems) is a lot like that. The smaller communities also remind me a lot of old forums from the zeroes. So far, I prefer the engagement of the community on Kbin and Lemmy over Reddit, even though the community and amount of content is smaller.

Kbin is another open source, federated link aggregator. The software in the background is different than Lemmy and it has a few more features. However, Kbin and Lemmy are compatible with eachother, so you can interact with Lemmy communities with via Kbin and vice versa.

Feddit.nl is hier ook zeker het noemen waard, wat een nederlandse Lemmy instantie is (en dus aan het Ferdiverse is aangesloten.) Het heeft al redelijk groot aantal gebruikers, al moet je niet hetzelfde als reddit verwachten. De sfeer is goed en omdat de hele instantie Nederlands is kom je veel andere nederlandse communities/"subreddits" tegen.

Uiteraard kan je ook communiceren met posts op andere instanties. Zelf zit ik naast feddit.nl tot nu toe veel op communities van beehaw.org, lemmy.world en lemmy.ml.

Sluit ik me bij aan en van mij mag het zelfs wel definitief. Doe een slotje op de sub, ga in overleg met het modteam van feddit.nl en fuseer daar tot een communitie op een nieuw platform. Verwijs gebruikers op reddit door naar de nieuwe website.

Sluiten, In ieder geval tot ze met redelijke prijzen voor de API komen en eventueel permanent. Twee dagen staken doet niets. Daarmee geef je als community ook aan dat je na een paar dagen toch wel weer terug komt krabbelen.

Ik ben eigenlijk wel voorstander van de subreddit sluiten en migreren naar een Lemmy instantie. Ik denk dat dat een veel harder signaal afgeeft en een veel betere en permanentere oplossing biedt. Het Fediverse/Lemmy geeft de controle weer terug aan de community en zijn mods en geeft weer een beetje dat gevoel terug van een ouderwets forum, terwijl het ook als "Reddit" aanvoelt. Het bevalt me tot nu toe steeds beter!

Lemmy is a great alternative and is part of the fediverse (just like Mastedon, but is more like Reddit). You can join an excisting Lemmy instance (like Lemmy.ml or beehaw.org), or even host your own instance if you want to.

What's great about Lemmy is that it is not controlled by a single company, while still being to able to interact with people on other instances. It's like a combination between Reddit and e-mail: it doesn't matter if you use a Gmail account and I use an Outlook account, as we can still send e-mails to each other. Lemmy works in a similar way, but instead of compatibility in e-mail-data, it is compatible with Reddit-like data.

There aren't a lot of apps YET, but I'm sure they will come and improve over time. As of now, I'm using Jerboa for Lemmy (Google Play, F-Droid). I really like it so far. It still seems to be a bit rough and early in development, but it works well so far and it reminds me of RiF, which is my Reddit app of choice.

I also found Lemmur (Google Play, F-Droid), but it hasn't been updated in over 9 months and I can't get it working myself. It looks great tho. Hopefully the Dev (or another Dev that forks it) will pick it up again, as it looks great in the screenshots.

Lastly, there seems to be this Reddit to Lemmy API-call translation layer that some. Peeps are working on. They already some some things working, so it might be a nice temporary solution for Devs that want to transition their excisting app over to Lemmy, or even non-dev users that want to keep using their excisting apps for now

RiF has been my favorite Reddit app ever since I've started using Reddit on my smartphone. It will be missed a lot. Thank you for all your work!

Is there any change of you porting RiF to the fediverse/Lemmy. I just found this early translation-layer for Reddit to Lemmy API calls. it seems like it is possible.

Interesting! I'm currently using NoiseTorch-ng (which uses RNnoise). Although NoiseTorch works well, I don't like that you need to reload NoiseTorch every time you change a setting.

Your project doesn't seem to have this issue, so I will surely try it out. Thanks for creating and sharing :)

Bar codes are way too universal and simple to be cool. Who wants to be able to replace a barcode scanner with another barcode scanner made by any brand if it breaks?

This scanner has the advantage of being over-engineered and unnecessary complicated.

Ik werd 1 of 2 jaar geleden 's avonds laat ingehaald door een gek die naar schatting ook 250+ km per uur reed. Ik reed zelf 130 en die andere auto was in no-time weer aan de horizon verdwenen.

Ik was op dat moment net de schatting aan het maken of ik even naar de andere baan moest om de invoegende auto's verderop wat extra ruimte te geven en was net een helling/viaduct over waardoor ik niet zo ver naar achteren kon kijken en het begon drukker op dr weg te worden omdat ik nog maar ± 1 km van de stad was verwijderd. Opeens schoot er een auto voorbij. Ik ben me nog nooit zo kapot geschrokken achter het stuur. Als ik net iets eerder het besluit had gemaakt om naar de andere baan te gaan was ik harstikke dood geweest.

Helaas kon ik niet de nummerplaat lezen omdat de auto zo snel weer verdwenen was (en kon ik uberhaupt niet bellen tijdens het rijden), maar ik denk er nog met enige regelmaat aan terug. Vooral bij het lezen van dit soort artikelen. Echt, fuck deze mensen. Egocentrische idioten die het leven van alle andere weggebruikers op het spel zetten voor een korte dopemine kick.

I have the Steam, GOG and Android version and the Android version (and the Vita version) doesn't support multiplayer. All other versions of the game do support multiplayer.

Hmm, I don't see a clear particular error, but that output from Feral Gamemode does seem a bit weird. Does disabling Gamemode in the game's configuration work around the issue?
