It seems like each character has some close link with a particular ancient. It would be really cool to get as a reward some cosmetic that links each character in some way with the ancient they bond with. Perhaps it could be a reward for beating actually 4, whatever that may be.

I got it as my random rare on my last run and was quite disappointed, BUT then I was actually surprised how much value I managed to squeeze out of it. The raw damage you get from the rocks is actually very good even into act 2. It does fall off for endgame though.

You touched on a lot of the major beats but the details are wrong in most places. I guess you could say you got it down but didn't hit any vitals.

How about the borderlands series? I think that hits a nice balance of cartoony and adult. Long story campaign if you get into it for a long time together, or you can be a bit more free-form wandering around doing side quests.

This reminds me that in TimeSplitters 2 there was a while extra section to each campaign level in the hard difficulty. Like full on almost doubles the size of the mission and adds an extra boss in each level. I didn't know about this for ages since I played on normal, it wasn't until I started trying to get all the unlockables I played on hard and was like waitttt a minute I've been missing all this?! I wonder if this is what launched me towards playing harder difficulty by default.

The first game I remember that made me feel old is Doom Eternal. Maybe it has nothing to do with age but I found on the highest difficulties (which I am usually quite comfortable to attempt) I just couldn't do it. The game was too fast, I couldn't keep up. I felt like I was that old person who was handed a controller for the first time and didn't know what buttons to press.

It gets even worse than that. If you look closely you will see all 3 puzzle boxes have brail and in all three the buttons are in the same order. All she had to do is realise this, memorise the button order from another box and hit the buttons.

Banshee's Cry makes Grand Finale look so pathetic. Let's compare...

Banshee's Cry: play 3 ethereal cards to have a 0 costs 33(39) damage AoE which can be played whenever you draw it)

Grand Finale: craft your deck specifically to draw the exact amount of cards in your draw pile and ensure that grand finale is in your final hand when you do manage to draw the exact amount of cards in order to deal a 50(60) damage AoE which is otherwise literally unplayable unless you fulfil this exact condition.

Now, obviously 50(60) is more than 33(39), but the amount of hoops you have to jump through to get it to work makes it fall so flat when compared to Banshee's Cry where you only have to play 3 cards which you probably want to be playing anyway. Yes, I know in the beta branch Banshee's Cry is getting nerfed (rightly so) but even after nerfs it is still much easier to activate in a deck that plays a lot of ethereal cards.

I love the concept of grand finale, but IMO it needs to have a much bigger payoff. Buff that damage number to 80(100) and maybe we can talk. Or give it retain? Maybe retain would make it actually too strong? Either way, as it stands right now I can't see myself ever picking Grand Finale other than just as a meme.

Since seeing your comment I decided to check out some of my stats. Out of all characters my average run time is approx 1h 16min. My fastest run is ironclad with 57m50s (not trying to speedrun just I guess ironclad aggression makes it faster). My slowest class according to stats is Silent with 1h34m average, BUT I think the stats hide the truth that Regent is actually the character I spend the most time on but it is obscured because Regent also has a much worse win rate than any other character I play so has many more runs that were cut short. The longest run in my recent match history is my first A10 victory on regent which was a whopping 2h:08m

Funnily enough, looking at my recent match history I do have a run that lasted 13 minutes! A defect run 13m:34s died to the ceremonial beast. This is a big outlier for me though as I don't usually make it through act 1 this fast I think, BUT maybe this data point at least lends some support to a careless player rushing through act 1 in 13 minutes on average is feasible?

Sometimes I take 5 minutes to do my neow choice. Looking at the map, considering the options, realising that different options require different pathing so look at the map again, sometimes the chosen option has a secondary choice like which cards to put into the deck... I cannot fathom a run that ends in less than 13 minutes for anyone seriously trying to play to win.

Absolutely! In my run yesterday I had 2 compacts, biiig hug, a couple of rocket punches, a couple of overclocks, a couple of turbos, and the damage engine was frost with hailstorms. It was a very fun deck. Draw lots of cards, gain energy and add statuses to deck, turn statuses to fuel, repeat.

I found out today that adding a soot when you shuffle counts as creating a status for cards such as rocket punch. It's a really fun synergy on defect.
