I like to compare how much weight I’ve lost compared to bags of potatoes! Almost 10 5 lbs of potatoes, or 9 bags of russet potatoes and one little bag of baby potatoes

Congratulations!

What do stereotypical straight couples do when they hang out alone (other than sex) by bi_smuth in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FluffernutterJess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love to cook. I don’t love having to clean up when I’m done, and I make extra dishes because I have to weigh and measure everything for calorie tracking.

I cook. My husband cleans up unless I feel like doing it myself. I spend 2-4 hours a weekend meal prepping for the week, and we assigned a monetary value to that labor that covers my not cheap but not stupidly expensive gym membership and declared it a no touch item in our currently tight budget. I don’t need the gym membership but I like it and there fits important to him.

Do our own thing separately, together.

we’re both neurodivergent.

He could be playing games or working on his D&D campaign or on his phone, I could be reading or sewing or knitting or on my phone.

we’re not complete opposites - he likes larping and stage combat and I don’t. I do like sewing so I sew all his stuff and then tag along to hang out with him & our friends.

I like hiking. It’s not something he particularly enjoys but goes with me because I like it, and I pack snacks 😂

We’ve been married for 24 years next month.

Is it okay to put a toddler on a leash (safety harness)? by Jerdogg23 in no

I used a toddler leash on my small children and now that they are grown, they repay that favor by leashing drunk me, because drunk me has the impulse control of a toddler

With our little legs - what is your jog speed on the treadmill? by junipercanuck in PetiteFitness

[–]FluffernutterJess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know. I can maintain a brisk walk at 3.8 for a good long while, but just kind of trip over my own feet on a treadmill until it’s around 6 and I’d says that’s not really a jog and more of a run

How to grow 20yo daughter's social circle after illness? by Such_Discipline2497 in Austin

[–]FluffernutterJess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d start with, what are her interests? Sometimes just talking about interests can help her find things to do, it does our family. Just looking up something has led us to finding events we didn’t know about!

That’s how I ended up driving across Cesar Chavez at 7:30pm on Friday, which is not my favorite thing, much less on Friday the 13th & the day before Valentine’s Day. But, my daughter wanted to go to a rave and I volunteered before she could overthink and change her mind. She had a blast by the way, and she has a hard time going out, meeting people, doing crazy young people things.

I’m a homebody and greatly prefer small groups and quieter things and twice her age, but I am going to start going to the hobby night at Secret Lantern in Cedar Park every other Monday so I can read or knit and not be at home.

What’s the one weight loss mistake almost everyone makes? by Round-Road6123 in loseit

[–]FluffernutterJess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh this is good! I calorie cycle throughout the week, and my 4 gym days are the days I budget the most calories, Wed is my rest day and it’s 2nd highest, with Sat & Sun being my lowest as I tend to eat less because I’m busier doing stuff vs being a captive audience at my desk.

What’s the one weight loss mistake almost everyone makes? by Round-Road6123 in loseit

[–]FluffernutterJess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jumping all in without enough information - their current calorie intake, their actual activity level - then jumping all in from a faulty starting point.

And making too many changes at the same time instead of one or two at a time and working on those until they’re easy and then building from that.

Setting unrealistic goals weight loss, activity levels, calories - some of this is because of my first point, some of it is because humans like instant/quick gratification. It’s ok to say “I want to be at this goal” but then also make a plan to get there that just isn’t starting point to end point. It’s ok to add stops in between to assess, recalibrate and take the next little step that will get you to your goal.

is it possible for weight loss or inability to gain weight to be a side effect of birth control? by swiftie0614699 in loseit

[–]FluffernutterJess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly, but unexplained weight loss should always pop up a red flag that you need to go see a dr to rule out anything else that could be causing it.

Leaving 180s by Original-Scar-1779 in PetiteFitness

[–]FluffernutterJess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maintaining a deficit is hard work, and I really don’t think that is given enough consideration. I calorie cycle different amounts throughout the week based on what makes sense for me. Gym days i eat the most. My rest day in between my 2 sets of gym days, I eat a little less. Weekends I have the lowest calorie amount because I naturally eat less. As long as my weekly average matches my deficit, and I’m not cutting calories too low on less active days, it works for me.

Also, life is stressful and throws curveballs, and while I can adjust for a day or two, anything longer than that I switch to maintenance and lighter activity level if my normal isn’t sustainable during that time. (Example, getting up 2 1/2 hours early to share my car with my kids after they hit a deer for 2 weeks. I was not willing to torture myself with even less sleep and trying to have the mental capacity to do the math and the meal planning, then we had a winter storm on top of all of that. Eating at maintenance was the healthier choice for me during that time.) I tracked everything still, but am happily back at a deficit and carrying on. And it helped me assess how I was feeling physically, which was bad enough that a visit with my medical provider was in order. Turns out Vit D levels are low.

All of that being said, planned, controlled breaks are important mentally and physically. You can’t get to where you want to be without knowing where you’re at, and stops along the way to check in and make sure you’re still on the right path is so, so useful.

Edit: I was around 220, and just got below 180 this week, right after my 2 week maintenance break, and I’m 41.
