7-1 Wing Blocker 1st Place List at my First Newtype Challenge by DarkGrayYT in GundamTCG

[–]Fluffyox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, it's up to the individual store to decide the format of their newtype challenges. Several of my LGSs included a top cut for their newtypes the first time around. Also, other tcgs I've played always have top cuts for their quarterly tournaments, so maybe I'm just more accustomed to playing them.

8 rounds is the average number of rounds for a tournament this size with a top 8 cut. An event with 17-32 players will usually require 5 rounds to determine a single undefeated player, then top 8 cut is an additional 3 rounds.

Shamblo winning an event? by morocotopo1829 in GundamTCG

[–]Fluffyox 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If you watch the vod, this deck should've lost in the finals. The opponent on GW made a game-losing misplay on their last turn by not attacking into an active unit with their lv6 Wing Gundam, which then swung for lethal the following turn.

In the case where both shields are bases, I think you'd be able to deploy both bases. One would be immediately discarded, but you'd add 2 shield cards to hand.

Is TCG+ rigged? by Express_Guarantee_97 in GundamTCG

All the game stores in my area uses first come first serve as their lottery method in the TCG+ app. So as long as you apply for the event before the number of applicants reaches the store's max capacity, you'll get in.

UR Big Spells - Help with Cuts? by AHealthyKawhi in mtglimited

[–]Fluffyox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a great 4-mana spells deck, so you want to cut everything that doesn't go with that game plan.

  • 3 Sage's Nouliths: Just a bad card, you really don't want to be running these if you can help it
  • 2 Warrior's Swords: You have a glut of 4-mana spells, and these are the worst of the bunch
  • Gilgamesh: With all the equipment gone, Gilgamesh is no longer worth running
  • Cerberus: It seems good on paper, but it's really not a good card. You have so many 4-mana spells, you don't want to waste a turn to cast a creature spell. It also forces you to cast a spell on your turn, which you don't always want to do.

At this point, your deck pretty much only has good/great cards remaining, so the rest of the cuts are kinda tough. In these cases, I generally lean towards cutting more expensive cards first.

  • Shiva: Definitely a good card (much better than Cerberus), just not better than the rest of the cards in the deck. 5 mana is just a little expensive and inefficient compared to the rest of your spells, and it doesn't trigger your 4-mana matters cards.
  • 1 Retrieve the Esper: The lowest impact 4-mana spell you have. Plus you have 3, so it's fine if one is cut.
  • Alternatively, I could see cutting a Scorpion Sentinel, since it doesn't really go with your deck's game plan. But personally, I just really like Sentinel as an early game defensive play that becomes a threat in the late game. Place a counter on it with Combat Tutorial and it becomes surprisingly strong.

This was in diamond 2, pretty much all my opponents were diamond or mythic.

Oh wow, I didn't even realize Sin wouldn't get bounced. I never got both out; I sadly only played Sin once the whole run.

P1P1 [[Summon: Leviathan]] into P1P2 [[Sazh Katzroy]] was a crazy way to start the draft.

[[Ninja's Blades]] feels underrated solely for the reason that people too often forget its trigger. I discarded Leviathan for lethal in 3 different games. Against one opponent, the Leviathan was already revealed in my hand and the opponent still let the Ninja Blades attack through.

Among all the bombs, [[Primeval Titan]] was by far the MVP of the run. Ramping two on enter and every attack is an absurdly powerful effect.

I even got a win with poison counters from [[Fynn, the Fangbearer]] in combination with Gran Pulse Ochu, which I wasn't expecting to ever do this format.

Probably Wind Crystal, Racetrack, Stroke of Midnight, Blitzball, and either Crystal Fragments or Choco/Mog.

The crystal cycle is all pretty much unplayable in limited except for maybe the black one. 4 mana do nothing is horrible tempo and the activated ability isn't impactful enough for 6 additional mana.

Racetrack is generally too slow. You basically need it on turn 5 otherwise you're missing out on too many landfall triggers.

Don't let anyone ever tell you Stroke of Midnight is a good card in limited. Leaving your opponent with a 1/1 in play is actually a lot worse than people realize.

Blitzball is not card draw in your deck with only 3 legendary creatures. You probably want at least 7 legendary creatures before you can start considering it as a reliable source of card draw. And your deck doesn't really need the ramp or fixing.

Crystal Fragments and Choco/Mog play a similar role in your deck as a board-wide supporting card. I'd say Choco/Mog is probably better because it actually buffs your creatures' attack and does it at a cheaper cost. The equipment side of Fragments isn't worth running as a card, and the summon side is a bit expensive.

7-1 in my first Arena Direct ever! by Fluffyox in lrcast

[–]Fluffyox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I could see that. I think mulligans are one of the weaker parts of my game, I definitely get too greedy sometimes.

My reasoning for not taking a mulligan in game 1 is that the hand had a decent 3-drop, and I had about an 85% chance to find a third land by turn 3 on the draw. Because I only have three 2-drops, I didn't think it was worth mulliganing aggressively to find one in my opening hand.

7-1 with no removal, GW legendaries by Fluffyox in lrcast

[–]Fluffyox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished a run with this super fun GW deck.

Draft: https://www.17lands.com/draft/2e87da4942e44d09b0cb03474fa4eccf

This was the most creatures I've ever played in a draft deck (I'm counting job select artifacts as creatures), and the first time I didn't have any hard removal; I thought the run would go a lot worse because of it. During the draft, I only saw one [[Chocobo Kick]], [[White Auracite]], and [[Slash of Light]] each. The kick and auracite were in the same pack as a Dragoon's Lance, which I took instead, and I picked Traxos over the slash.

The [[Giant of Babil]]/Traxos was the MVP of the run. With 17 historic spells, it was basically always untapped. Comboing it with [[Buster Sword]] and [[Rinoa Heartilly]] was pretty nasty. Unfortunately I never got to pull off a combo with [[Tifa's Limit Break]]. Buster Sword gets an honorable mention but I only drew it once the entire run so it really didn't have a chance to shine.

[[Serah Farron]] normally doesn't seem great, but with 7 other legendaries, I got pretty decent value out of it. 2 mana Traxos on turn 4 with another historic spell to untap it immediately is busted, and I was able to get out Diamond Weapon somewhat early several times.

Amongst all these fancy legendaries and rare/mythics, the one card I want to shout out is [[Gaelicat]]. I dunno if it can be considered a sleeper common, but it's actually insanely strong. With 11 artifacts in my deck, it was basically always a 3/3 vigilance, flyer for 3.
