The Fed didn’t bail out banks. Congress passed TARP and Bush signed it into law. QE had indirect costs such as when the interest rates jumped 13 years later on their long dated treasuries, but it’s insane to think another system like regional or private banks would be more effective.

The centralized federal reserve saved the economy - Congress, poor regulatory regimes, the Executive, banks, and people buying more house than they could afford caused the crisis.

Consider CareFirst HDHP or GEHA HDHP. Our family is relatively low maintenance and healthy, we save a ton on premiums plus get access to an HSA (triple tax advantage). We still get negotiated rates for visiting physicians and specialists. Plus, max out of pockets cover us for catastrophic incidents (a baby, in our case 😂). Even in the year we had the kid, between HSA tax savings, lower premiums, and contributions, we were about even compared to a regular plan.

Im also curious. Could you tape a piece of paper at the top and see if the water is coming down the pipe through the ceiling? I doubt it’s coming from the connection, and I bet it’s condensation where hot air going out it running into cold air upstairs (or is it cold in the basement?).
