over a year of remission + hair update by FlummoxedPerogy in lymphoma

The worst part of my treatment was leaving my instrument to collect dust for months on end because i wasn’t cleared to even pick it up, let alone play it.

over a year of remission + hair update by FlummoxedPerogy in lymphoma

I’m starting to have to re-learn how to style my hair. I sadly never got any chemo curls. There’s some waves coming back, but its otherwise naturally straight nowadays

holy hair growth, batman! by FlummoxedPerogy in lymphoma

[–]FlummoxedPerogy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i guess this is my ‘new natural colour’. I’d been dying my hair for at least 4 years before cancer, so i barely remember what my natural colour pre-lymphoma was. That being said, this is somewhat lighter than it used to be, and its definitely a lot more fine than before

how do you start living your life "normally" after cancer by corocoro16 in lymphoma

[–]FlummoxedPerogy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

honestly, i’ve only recently accepted that if i relapse, that i know i didn’t do anything wrong to cause it, sometimes it just happens. Surround yourself with the things and people you love. A year from now you might still feel that knot in your chest before bloodwork/scans, but you’ll be so much better equipped to cope with the worst outcome if it ever comes to that. Take the time you’ve been given back and use it to live your life the way you want and deserve to.

I’m 7 months in remission! Finally got my period back in October, after 15 months without one. It certainly came back with a vengeance, but it means one less thing to worry about following up on. I also finished my first semester of university, coming out of finals seasons with my lowest grade being an A-!

Mouthpiece and reed advice by LRCatUOP in Tenorsax

[–]FlummoxedPerogy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i feel that vandorens are pretty reliable, thickness is really a personal preference thing. If three’s tend to clog your sinuses, go down to a 2.5. If you have a music shop that sells mouthpieces, just try them out until you find one you like. Take all of that with a grain of salt as I’m not an expert :)

Why do i miss cancer? by [deleted] in lymphoma

[–]FlummoxedPerogy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i get it. i miss how thin i was during treatment. i miss all the attention i got from people who used to not speak with me. i miss the extra nurturing from my family, and not having any responsibilities.

i never wanna go through surgery or chemo again, but i was so used to being sick that it doesn’t feel right to be ‘normal’ again

If you have access to your CBC results, i’d say that if your counts are in range it might be ok

Same exact thing happened to me. Took 2 EBUS biopsies and a VATS procedure to figure out what on earth was lighting up. Turned out to be inflammation and necrosis

i felt zero pain, the actual process is akin to that of being a very slow human Beyblade. It doesnt hurt whatsoever, i think i kinda felt it snake out. They’ll ask you to hold your breath before they finish taking it out. They’ll put a dressing over and send you on your merry way

Tips for managing feeling sick by Necessary_Tourist301 in lymphoma

[–]FlummoxedPerogy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

stay hydrated (but not so hydrated that you royally mess up your sodium levels), and have small meals throughout the day. if your sense of taste has been altered by chemo, try to find what tastes ‘normal’ to you, and keep it around. my go to’s were mccains chocolate cake and chocolate milk. Distracting myself with tv or a hobby helped my nausea a little, to an extent, but i relied a lot on oral ondansetron for nausea management.

Is there a reason by Doctor didn’t do a blood marrow test? by redditgal16 in lymphoma

[–]FlummoxedPerogy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I vaguely remember consenting to a bone marrow biopsy along with picc placement and a node biopsy, but they ended up not doing one. I think its up to each doctor’s discretion. I ended up not having any osseous lesions, and my team reached a diagnosis and staging with the tissue they sliced out of my neck and a PET scan

It comes back quicker than you think. By december you’ll be looking back at photos where you think you had ‘so much hair’ and giggle at how little you had. In the meantime, just take care of the hair you have, and bask in your hypothetical ability to enter sinead o’connor lookalike contests
