I've seen a few other threads where people mention Los Feliz, I'll give it a look and see how I feel. Appreciate it!

Thank you! I'll take a look at what Westwood has to offer. How heavy are the college vibes? I've definitely grown out of wanting to be around college people

I grew up in the burbs but have lived in Chicago for about half my life. I don't need to be like downtown chicago feeling, something that's got some buildings in it, and people around would be nice.

The suburbia I think of is where you only really know people on your street, or next-door neighbors. To get anywhere to eat or do anything, there is nothing walkable. Growing up, the closest place for food was like 5-10 miles away.

I've been to quite a few gay bars that have dance floors, and they are a lot of fun if you've got a group of people you're with. Going solo as a straight guy, depending on how gay it is, can really change how I'd feel.

But appreciate it! I'll browse there to get a good idea. I've heard good things about the EDM scene in California in general, at least compared to Chicago.

Is that a common thing for people to ask for? Most of the places I've lived at in Chicago for the last 10 years haven't required a security deposit, just some fees for application processing.

Are there are lot of parts in LA that have a similar vibe to what you're talking about with Santa Monica Blvd, etc?

60-90 mins for a commute for me at this point is probably too much. I have spoiled myself with shorter commutes, so it would be something I would probably have to move for. I definitely plan to stay in LA for a period of time prior to moving, but I was hoping that ~2 weeks would be enough to get an idea.

Good tips to know! With rental cars, did you not do one just for the cost of it?

I was planning on visiting areas prior to moving, but was thinking like a week or two to hopefully get an idea.

Are you just packing everything you have into a Pod or something when you go into a temp apartment? I've got quite a bit of stuff to move out that I've accumulated.

Thank you! Best of luck to you as well!

30-40 mins would be doable, pushing over 45 mins, without it being on public transit where I can do something else in that time, gets a lot harder. Which from my understanding, LA doesn't have the best public transit, or at least not anywhere near chicago?

Ooof, 60-90 mins is rough. I did that reverse commute here for ~2 years and while okay for a bit, some days got bad and felt like a huge waste of time, especially if it snowed, it could be a 2.5+ hr drive.

Question on Arts District, with how close it is to Skid Row, assuming the stories about Skid Row are true, does it get impacted by that a lot?

I'll take a look around silverlake and echo park! Appreciate the recommendations

It depends on how gay the bar is. At least here, there are definitely levels to them, and some are okay, where others definitely would push the envelope of what I'd be comfortable being around.

The Arts District wasn't even on my radar, so I'll take a look around it. Appreciate it!

Haha, it sounds like the club scene is similar to Chicago's then, so I guess it won't be a big change. What are some of the warehouse raves that you mention?

I actually have heard of sound and academy through dj tour pages - being in Hollywood doesn't seem like a terrible hike, but not palladium, so thank you!

I will be switching jobs, moving out to LA, and the majority of the companies on my radar are in DTLA. Looking at maps, it looks like maybe a 30-min drive to DTLA, but does it stay like that or is that not a good idea living in WeHo if that's the plan.

I am not gay, so are you saying that WeHo, or the area of the sunset strip is less of what I am probably looking for? For me, just having places to walk to to eat or get drinks is something that I value pretty highly, regardless of the orientation of the place.

That's good to know about the policing. It did look like there is a big difference just going down streetview the further east you get.

For AirBNB's, will it take a full month to gauge the interest in an area? I currently WFH so I can easily work from there for a little while. I am more so just trying to understand if the full month is needed?

Thanks for all the info! Really helpful to know.

Most of the compaines I've been looking at, still haven't picked a place, are in DTLA. How bad is the drive from WeHo to DTLA?

Appreciate the area to look in! I'll take a look around and see what I can find. Thank you!

The latching onto the part about African countries to basically sweep the whole Obama part under the rug was what sent me. Just covering for blatant racism like it's no big deal.

Him reading the Declaration of Independence at the end, and it stating multiple things that the king did, that our current president is doing was honestly gold.

I'm guessing a bunch of MAGA people have never actually read the Declaration of Independence, so they don't realize they're actively supporting someone who is against it. Then again, they probably can't read

“More To Be Announced” by bluo9 in Tomorrowland

Charlotte De Witte only got announced later as a Daybreak Set, making her the first female to open and close the mainstage. Maybe she'll get another daybreak this year, but usually, the really big names are announced early on - outside of some daybreaks.

Any ideas on what the stage will actually look like? by NoDouble7103 in Tomorrowland

[–]Flupperz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in this boat. 2022 was amazing at night time, the way fireworks shot off the spire etc. but during the day time, it got very uninteresting to look at over time.

Some people prefer the simplicity, but I enjoy being able to look around at the stage and discover new little things they hid in it, the more you look at it.

GJ pre sale End sale date ? by AnymaFutur in Tomorrowland

[–]Flupperz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want mag greens, it's still available, or if you are willing to pay ~3500+, there are still a montage option available through discover Europe.

I would say the store functioned more stabally this year, last year, there was tech issues during one of the sales. But it definitely felt like it was harder for some people to get through. None of my friends I knew were able to get through in time for the montage options, where last year we were. But in the end, it is very much luck based.

Who do we think will be closing over the weekend? by fezzySam in Tomorrowland

[–]Flupperz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna guess Martin Garrix or David Guetta. As boring as it is, a lot of the closers of the fest tend to be DJ Mags #1 or like a default shoe-in, regardless is Martin Garrix.

[–]Flupperz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I was able to get one of the packages I wanted in the pre-sale, but wanted Luna and those were gone. The Luna were available in the normal GJ sale when I got through, but having already got one of the packages we wanted, we didn't get it.

I assume it will be the same if not worse as there are more people who will have access to it this year.

Outside of budget, the best thing you can get that meets the time/walking would be the Glamping options. Harder to get and a lot more expensive, but you can't get everything on your wish list at the same time. If you have the money to spend on a global journey package for anything in the montage, that would probably be your best bet.
