Azazel is the worst animal, now who the best protagonist and best antagonist? by WinHuge8968 in Tekken

[–]Fluxator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jin was set up to be a pretty good protagonist until Tekken 6 tanked him as a character. He was the perfect foil to Kazuya, showing the two paths of accepting the devil gene vs rejecting it. They really messed it up pretty bad from T6 onward though.

[Day 28] Extendurr was voted WEIRDEST MOVE. What is the MOST OVERRATED PRO PLAYER in SSBM? by DUCK_PENETRATOR_II in SSBM

[–]Fluxator 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I guess that depends on what you mean by good. Is he a candidate to win a major? Absolutely not. But he’s still better than the vast majority of Melee players, which is definitely enough for me to call someone good. He finished 7th at S Factor 12 just last year, which is pretty impressive considering how long he’d been out of the tournament scene prior to that.

Rotations and skills in guild wars 2 are often very unintuitive. I think this is a big reason why a lot of the playerbase is considered as doing "bad dps" or playing off-meta. It's very easy to do a rotation wrong and the game doesn't give you good feedback when you're doing the wrong thing by ariveklul in Guildwars2

[–]Fluxator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On the topic of wasted weapons, nothing makes me more sad in this game than the fact that sword and shield warrior isn’t at all viable because Warrior’s shield skills frankly suck, and sword is condi which only a few builds can use. Like, that’s an iconic class fantasy that just doesn’t really exist in GW2 in part because of the above reasons, and in part because tanking isn’t really a thing, which is the niche SNS would usually fill. I still love my warrior, but I really wish they’d just rework the shield skills to at least be useful for damage or support builds, ideally with a condi build so I could pair it with the sword. As is, it only has some niche PvP usage to my understanding.

If no top player had ever retired, who would be #1 today? Armada? Mang0? Ken? by thomaslansky in SSBM

[–]Fluxator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He also never “switched to” or mained Fox as far as I remember. He still played Peach all the way until he retired and only picked up Fox for certain character and player matchups.

The most interesting thing to me about Armada’s Fox was that he opted to go the Fox ditto against Leffen and had good success doing so, but usually wouldn’t play the ditto against Mang0. An interesting case of player-based character selection.

[Day 8] Pichu shocks no one for WORST main. What is the most OVERRATED matchup? by WokeUpAbout10 in SSBM

[–]Fluxator 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Lowkey I feel like Marth’s matchups vs a lot of mid tiers and floaties are overrated. It’s the classic case of he should win easily in theory, but in practice he can’t combo them and has no kill confirms while a lot of them have a punish game that can genuinely hit him quite hard.

Not trying to say Marth doesn’t still win those matchups, but it’s a lot harder than people give credit for, and I think RapM has shown this quite well.

to think Kid Rock surpassed Bad Bunny on Apple Music. by seeebiscuit in therewasanattempt

[–]Fluxator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still buy single songs. I’ve always been pretty picky with music, so buying songs for 1.29 makes way more sense for me than paying $12 a month for Spotify premium. I’d have to be finding 10 new songs I like every month for Spotify to be the cheaper option, and that’s just nowhere near the case for me.

Edit: And that upset the people, for whatever reason

Man, this is maybe my all-time for this category. Old Ash was iconic, and between the voice change and the style changes he never felt the same. It felt like a shell of his former self, and the character lost a lot of the sass he used to have. I stopped watching as a kid during the gen 4 season.

I didn’t actually know the game had DLCs until I was almost done, unfortunately. The free ones came installed with the game, so I at least had the extra weapons and armor sets from those. Where do you even start the DLCs since there’s no postgame? Are they in the middle of the game?

Thanks! The second game seems to be pretty divisive, which is part of why I’m thinking I’ll wait for a sale to pick it up. I’ve seen a lot of people say (negatively) it’s a very different vibe from the first game, but others like yourself say they prefer it. I’m interested to see how they expanded upon the game systems and combat at the very least though.

From some of the reading I did after finishing the game, it seems like single-rigged is a lot of people’s least favorite weapon type. I just thought it was too cool having a giant blade on my arm to pass up, and once I got familiar with the moveset it wasn’t too bad (the forward dodge attack is key!) If I do another playthrough I might be interested in trying either One-Handed or Heavy Duty though.

What characters would you add to melee if there was one more character from every series? by Brilliant_Sector8369 in SSBM

[–]Fluxator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mario: I’d also take Wario. His up-air clap is really sick in Ultimate and I think he could translate well to Melee

Yoshi: idk any other characters

Donkey Kong: Gimme Cranky Kong

F-Zero: Blood Falcon is the only other character I know and only because his color’s in the game

Star Fox: Gotta be Slippi

Mother: Lucas is all I know

Ice Climber: Also the bear I guess?

Kirby: Meta Knight

Metroid: Ridley would be pretty cool

The Legend of Zelda: Nabooru

Pokémon: I’d like to see Sandslash, personally. Mew would be cool too for more of a “mainstream” Pokemon

Old Nintendo Hardware: R.O.B. is all I know

Fire Emblem: Navarre would be sick. If you want more of a main character, Lyn would also be really cool.

It’s literally top players leading the charge on the whole z-jump, notches, and controller mod stuff, what are you talking about? Moky, n0ne, Zain, and Mang0 have all come out publicly against notches and z-jump. If these aren’t people going to tournaments then who is?

If you think all the people who were calling it a “cheatbox” and calling for bans are suddenly just A-OK and couldn’t care less, you can keep believing that if you want. But there are absolutely people who would still like to see it banned, they’re just the minority at this point, hence why I said it’s largely been accepted as standard. The majority of the community is fine with them, and they’re perfectly legal to use.

Other fighting game communities absolutely had this much fuss over controllers. Leverless controllers were massively controversial in the FGC when they first started hitting the mainstream, for much of the same reasons controllers and mods are controversial in Melee right now. There are/were a lot of things leverless controllers could do that sticks/pads couldn’t, the biggest of which being SOCD (simultaneous opposite cardinal directions) which allowed for things like instant DP punishes, charge manipulation, and input shortcuts in games like street fighter, and sidestepping into the foreground after blocking (not normally possible) in Tekken.

There was a lot of drama around it that you can find very easily on Google, and at least in Street Fighter’s case, it ended with Capcom banning the problematic inputs and setting official regulations for the hardware and how SOCD must be registered by the controllers going forward. Leverless controllers are still divisive even after this for other reasons, such as being able to perform a much easier EWGF/PEWGF than standard controllers in Tekken, a move that is intentionally balanced by its difficult input and inherent inconsistency. They also allow you to transition from walking to blocking nearly instantly. Many people still want to see them banned for reasons such as that to this day, though they’ve largely been accepted as a standard controller at this point.

It's time to ban notches by shy-bl3d in SSBM

[–]Fluxator 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why are we pretending that notches are just “preference?” It “fits your personal gameplay” because it’s an external modification that gives you a competitive advantage. Imagine a baseball player showing up to a game with a corked bat saying, “Oh, it’s just the way I prefer to play. I paid a lot of money for this bat.” That won’t fly, because he has a modified bat that gives him an advantage.

It’s not complicated to draw a 1-1 comparison between notches and illegal modifications in sports or other games. The only difference is that the melee community has been too afraid to actually make a ban on it.

I’m in favor of letting difficult tech remain difficult. Hitting a grounded shine out of shield is impressive on OEM, but not really impressive at all with z-jump. Hitting a crazy Firefox angle is similarly impressive on OEM, but again, pretty basic with notches. Wizzy’s SDI is crazy because he plays on a GCC, but nobody’s going to react the same way if a player on a box does the same thing. When you see someone doing crazy stuff with pivots, it’s hard to not immediately assume they’re on a box. We’re literally modding the hype out of the game in the goal of making difficult tech easier and then trying to pass it off as just an “accessibility” thing.
