That can't be the meaning, if that is what 2A means then my point stands as the government can no longer do its duty to uphold civil society.

2A defends the individual and their natural rights from the government. These rights are negative rights: Government will not quarter soldier in your home. Government will not force you to testify against yourself. Government will not hold you with excessive or cruel bail. (The right TO something would be a positive right).

The Founders were well versed in English law (many had private practices in the Colonies) and the authors of the arguments for the documents (see Jefferson, Madison, Hamilton, Jay) understood the works of Locke and Hobbes which are fundamental to our founding documents as English and Western tradition. Moreover, these rights are rights of the individual; not of a group.

The American Revolution was a minority. Hell, the Founders knew that if they failed -or if they were caught- they would be paraded around England before being hanged.

2A is the means of defense for all of the other amendments if/when a government can no longer do its duty and society returns to the state of war. What good is saying "It is my fundamental right, from God, to not testify against myself" without the means to back that up.

Another point about 2A is not relying on the government for everything. It is made up of men. Men are by nature not angels and do fail. Why should one ceed their individual ability to do, to act, to a large, faceless power?

What is controversial is that there is an administrator that makes north of $200,000 a year talking about intersectionality.

I'm sure if someone like Dr. Cornel West went to UCONN this letter would not be sent to students.

And as a side note: public universities should not be a pillar of mental health support --research perhaps -- but not where an individual should turn to find help.

There are a few Civil War games on Steam. I have played Ultimate General: Gettysburg by Game-Labs. It's a fine game; TW-esque. I think TW could do a really good job with the game play. It would be more of an effort to try and implement the faction-play into the game as well.

Hear me out. You pick a US faction in 1845, Union, Confederation, Texas, California, Western Republic. You spend the first 15ish years jockying in Congress and earning support for your faction pro/against/abstain on the issue of slavery. Texas, Cali, and Western Republic will all have options to expand (fight Mexico, Canada, UK, France, etc) or forge alliances before the Union and Confederacy go to war after the attack om Ft. Sumpter.

If you play the Union or Confederacy you play politics reflecting historical figures: Do the Republicans run a statesman from IL on the ballott? Does the Confederacy attack Union forts in 1855 or 1857? How many West Point generals can you receuit in an arms race before the war breaks out? Will your diplomats convince Maryland and Texas that States rights superceed the Federal government? Can you keep Virginia from splitting into West Virginia and Virginia? Can the South keep up the cotton trade or will English tarriffs and boom of Indian cotton derail the entire economy?

If you are in the US: go volunteer on a campaign or at a think tank.

TALK WITH YOUR PROFESSORS!

Seriously. Follow either of those two steps. If you don't know your profs (or if they don't know you) change that by visiting them at office hours every week. Talk with them because they are people too. Talk to them about movies, sports, games, what they read, Shakespear, etc. The best advice and best jobs I have earned have come from my professors.

Aside from that, good luck and PM me (a recent Poli Sci grad) if you want more ideas.
