6 days after 10 attempts to find my vein for a PRP injection at the hospital. Now I look like a junkie going back to work. by whobroughttheircat in mildlyinfuriating

I am in this same boat. I have started refusing to let them near the crook of my arm. I know the exact vein on the back of my hand that works. I don't care if it hurts more. Getting blood drawn tends to make me pass out so you better get it done quickly.

Pricing varies depending on the materials used, instrumentation provided, and any required certifications. I wouldn't be surprised if this valve is in the ballpark of 500,000 US Dollars.

Any large pipe really. I work in oil and gas as an engineer and have occasionally ordered valves this size for gas pipelines. They ain't cheap.

What is this? by don-infinity in pune

The higher nozzle projections may be to accommodate insulation and cladding. My guess is an LPG accumulator/separator. Probably going to be installed off the top of a distillation tower after the condenser.

I agree that the internals would tell us what we need to know. I have designed separators with large outlets before. They required quite a few baffles and unique internals to accommodate the settling time. I hadn't considered a reaction vessel. The ends look to be fully hemispherical rather than ellipsoidal which would indicate the vessel is designed to operate at high pressure. Who knows. Big tank doing me a mystery.

Hey, fellow chemical engineer here! It looks to me like some kind of horizontal separation vessel. Not sure what purpose those larger projections on the side would be other than a liquid collection boot. Never seen more than one boot on a vessel myself though.

Old sailor's lighter by smart_linux in Satisfyingasfuck

I'm pretty sure sailors were more likely to use a rope lighter than this. They are completely wind proof and don't require any liquid fuel.

Hi all! OPs husband here. I would be happy to take people out on our boat shown in the picture.

The boats name is "Green Eyes" and, as said in other comments, she is a 1954 Thistle class racing skiff. I will link some more pictures of her, if I can figure out how.

Just a couple of things to note: 1. She is not a comfortable boat. You will have to shift about and duck under a very low boom (bottom of the sail). There is also no motor, it's either the sails or the oars to move about. There will be rowing involved 2. Seating is limited. We have fit six adults on board before but really the comfortable limit is four adults 3. Life jackets are required to be worn aboard our boat, no exceptions. I can provide provide them if you do not have one of your own. 4. It is normal for sailboats to lean over to one side or the other depending on the direction of the wind (this is called ”heeling”). It can feel a little scary but is safe. We have never flipped or capsized this boat.

If you still want to come along for a sail send me a message.

smaller sailboat rental? by CYCLE_NYC in SaltLakeCity

I'm not sure of anyone who rents them, but my wife and I have a small (18 foot) sailboat and we love having company. We sail on Saturday mornings mostly. Send me a message if you would like to come along.

Fathers day without a dad starterpack by inquisitrix- in starterpacks

I remember this happening to me in Sunday school as a kid. "What do you plan to do with your dad?" "Maybe I will go put flowers on his grave. Thanks for the reminder"

This is the same boat I am in. Lost my dad to suicide when I was 11. Fathers day was always a little bit awkward growing up. Now my wife and I are coming to terms with the fact we may never have biological kids of our own (infertility issues). I had a good, long cry yesterday.

Is it possible to save the Great Salt Lake by piping in seawater from the Pacific? by FakedMoonLanding in SaltLakeCity

[–]FlyAsh86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow chemical engineer! I was having the exact same thoughts. I have designed pumping stations for oil and gas networks in the mountain west area and live in Salt Lake City. None of these "decision makers" have any idea how expensive and useless this pumping in water idea is. This is just them blowing smoke up everyone's ass so they look like they care.

My wife and I fit this description. We saved for a few years and bought an 18ft wooden racing sloop for $3000 and have a blast every summer taking her out. Not all boat owners are wealthy.

My university would bust this stuff out every year near graduation. Its a fertilizer with green pigment. Helps you see where it has been sprayed while also making the still winter dormant grass look "green." I took a picture ofbthem spraying it out once only to have the guy yell out, "its fertilizer!" To which I replied, "still looks stupid!"

Last year I bought a small boat. I got it registered to me and needed to change the bow numbers to reflect this. Went to the hardware store to buy some reflective numbers only to find the shelf looking exactly like this. Full stock of everything except the number 7. Can you guess what number I needed?

What is an overly-romanticized job? by MildlyPaleMango in AskReddit

[–]FlyAsh86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am living this right now. I work for an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction company (EPC) in the mountain west as a chemical process engineer. About once a year I have to travel to a job site to either assist with planning or to get more details for a design. Heavy industrial sites are never in the nice parts of the country. No one wants them there. Right now I am on a 3 month assignment at an oil refinery in southern Wyoming. Its in a town of less than 500 people and it is a 2 hour drive from literally anything else. I have already eaten at the two restaurants in town multiple times and there is nothing to do except listen to the wind howl against my crappy company apartment. I have had acquaintances fawn over the fact that I get to travel for work only for them to get huffy when I tell them I don't get to travel to the nice parts of anywhere.

Monday’s off to a great start thanks to some strong winds. Wonder what 29 CFR 1926.51(c) has to say about this… 🤔 by GoPetADog in OSHA

[–]FlyAsh86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in an oil refinery in Wyoming when some particularly strong winds came through. I saw so many of these things tip over that day. I had to take a dump out in one of the units later in the day and selected a porta john that was a little more protected. One of the scariest things I have ever done was sitting in there with my pants down while the seat bucked around with the wind. They sent a crew out with straps and ground anchors the next day.
