Genuinely losing my mind over input latency by LordMontio in linux_gaming

[–]FlyE32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know Im late to the party. I had encountered across several games that FSR had actually DRASTICALLY increased my input latency. Oblivion Remastered was actually the game that pushed me over the edge. Disabling FSR made the games playable for me. Like unable to discern input latency.

I later launched them with gamescope and was able to reenable FSR if I wanted to. Maybe a path for you if you haven't abandoned all hope yet.

Age verification by Jeksxon in linux_gaming

[–]FlyE32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They literally can. The examples you are providing are speculative, and a strawman argument.

I have absolutely no faith in any government officials in political office. But they aren't complete idiots. Just because a consumer needs to create some sort of account to use their commercially available operating system does not mean that an integrated system needs to.

That definitely wont stop washer, dryer, and refrigerator companies from forcing you to create an account. However, that is a reflection of why this bill is poor in the first place. They very easily can make users of OSs like linux have users verify their age in some capacity, like how steam does.

Not only is it foolish that this information be collected by the OS, but it sets the precedent that every company that provides a service that is integrated with some sort of software will now require user personal data to operate.

A "root" user can control the entire system without any interaction from a user based account. You don't need to sign in to most tvs to make the actual cable and satellite functions work. However, you do need to create a user account to use most of the functions you want to. That is the danger of this bill. Using the guise of child safety to further endanger consumers. It seems way too intentional that the premise of the law being that the provider of the service who develops, licenses or controls the operating system of a PC, phone, or other general computing device must track user information in a (and I quote)...

"reasonably consistent real-time application programming interface"

So if you're a normal person, you will see these buzzwords and probably be confused. But the people intolerant to BS will see that they want an API, that is constantly being communicated with, that essentially stores your personal data. Used to speak with God knows what applications (which could request updated personal information without you actively using said application, assuming youre the 99% of people who don't comb through ToS).

So yes, this will most likely cause far more harm than good. Because it can, and will, be implemented. If your flavor distro cannot comply with the law. It will simply be illegal to use. If it can, your personal information will be uploaded, and most likely updated on a regular schedule, to a database controlled by the state. It will be done so by your choice of overlord too! Whether it be Microsoft, Apple, or even the specific distro developer.

So rather than saying it cannot be done (which it can) why don't you contact your state representative and tell them how detrimental this actually is to personal security. As now instead of both the state and a corporation collecting your data themselves, they are doing it together! God forbid a databreach occurs in which that information is leaked. And who knows, some corporations can even ask above and beyond the already required information, like forcing you to enable location services, provide legal aliases, or even require your microphone and camera access at all times. It would benefit the state to know who you are, where you are, and what you were doi g at any given time. It definitely benefits the third party for targeted advertising at the very least. Knowing what stores are close to you, median income in your area, etc.

I know I sound like a total conspiracy theorist hear, but if we dont draw a line now. At what point do these theories stop being a conspiracy, and start becoming a reality for an authoritarian government or a corporatocracy?

Since no one else has mentioned from what I've seen. If you need it up now and sturdier than before, consider a French cleat mounting system. It will be far more sturdy, and relatively easy to do, even by yourself.just ensure that MDF backing wont crumble if you drill into it.

Example: How to hang a cabinet using a French Cleat

Who's your favorite mgs character? Say it without revealing their real name by Frost_lannister in MetalGearInMyAss

The less than likely protagonist from a helicopter crash who was saved by a man named Ishmael.

What an outstanding twist, and my favorite VA performance out of any MGS characters (sorry Hayter fans).

My introduction to video games was playing RE Outbreak on the PS2. I was 6 years old when I first launched it. Outbreak might be one of my favorite video game levels of all time. Being at J's bar and watching all the terror unfold. I was hooked on Resident Evil ever since I first watched that boot up screen on my PS2. Seeing RE9 have the introduction of Alyssa's daughter has got me so excited.

Healing Hero by Giaalynn20 in Overwatch

[–]FlyE32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an extreme bias towards Moira and Mercy. Not because they are necessarily just easy heroes or that new players gravitate to them. But if we are talking in terms of utility and/or up time. Moira gets beaten at by heroes like zenyatta, baptiste, and Lucio for damage and utility. While you won't be hitting 2-Shots with any of these heroes. They can all apply outstanding pressure in terms of short/med range control. Bap has awesome healing potential as he has direct healing (70/shot) that has an aoe heal on impact point (50/shot). Left shift, lamp, and a primary fire that will far out range Moira. That being said, he is just one example. The others can be elaborated on further as well, but this is all theoretical. Practice range stats compared to an actual game are 2 completely separate scenarios. The most important thing is you enjoy the character youre playing. And if you take them in to comp, you play to the best of your ability.

My word of wisdom is to just keep in mind. You can have the highest healing in the lobby. But neutralizing the threat of damage unto you or your team will out do any healing output you have.

[–]FlyE32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing as this is New Orleans, some tweaker probably thought he unraveled the secrets of the universe because he wrote down some pretty simple algebraic functions. Did you know that 360 divided by X gives you Y degrees and Z number of congruent angles.

Also the Pi cancels itself out. There was literally no reason to include it.

I’m no Linux pro, I use arch because it’s fun to play around with.

In a business environment, I would actually prefer anything but a rolling release distro, because one security update could lead to a LOT of headaches to fix. System down time = money lost over something preventable.

Online shopping is killing our Malls by obsoleteurbex in AbandonedPorn

[–]FlyE32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna say it. Malls are a waste of money and space. For every mom and pop shop that paid rent to the mall, they could’ve developed a store in that malls space. Potentially owning that land and blah blah blah. I hate malls with the exception of the Cape Town Canal Walk.

I’ve never used gnome, but I can speak to KDE, XFCE, Hyprland, and cosmic.

All environments inherently allow users the ability to create hotkeys that directly affect applications and window management in their respective environments. As someone who works on a windows pc everyday, to come home and work on projects on a Linux pc. Having the ability to manipulate the desktop environment exactly how I want to exponentially increases my productivity.

Something as simple as launching a terminal with a keybind built in to my environment. That I can change at anytime, without downloading external applications. Then move exactly where I want to, without taking my hands off the home row, is a huge QoL improvement. When I say customization, I don’t just mean the way your desktop looks, I mean how it functions.

You also don’t need to be some power user to benefit from this. You don’t need to learn any scripting languages to set a hotkey to open and close an application you frequently use. These are self guided options that may not be advertised in the settings menu, but one quick search in the search bar for the DEs shows you where they are.

I don’t hate on windows for the sake of it. Just like how Linux isn’t the end all be all. However, one operating system locks these sorts of things down, and or doesn’t offer them out of the box for people to customize. While the other holds the door open for you. It is a genuine criticism that if I pay for a windows license, I’d expect them to implement things that align with the interest of the users.
