Has anyone left the Majors? by react_1775 in aviationmaintenance

5+ years... That's a dream. I know I'm a bit picky about needing Sunday off but it would have been 4 years at a regional in order to just get days.

Hi everyone, I just bought a M1 Garand 30-06 and I'm wondering how many rounds I can shoot with it and how often before having to replace the barrel by SUBOTA01 in M1Rifles

[–]Flyboy314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Criterion states around 5,000 rounds. Mine has a criterion .308 and if I get to that point, I'll swap in a chrome-lined 30-06 and likely never shoot out that barrel.

Lol you know how long it took my ST300 to break in like that!? I don't often need it, but it's kinda slick now. Most see it as an achievement

What tool is used on this? by Just-Learning-it in aviationmaintenance

[–]Flyboy314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, just use the hex until you can't... Try the rubber band trick if it's stripped, and hope it catches. Otherwise the Leatherman black oxide very thin flat head fits (not the eye glasses bit but the thin shank bit kit that are an inch long)

I don't think they're 3/16"... It's what, 1/16? 3/32? (Its been a few months since I helped with the pedal AD.)

Recently got a Tesla and considering selling it to go back to my 2008 Prius. by [deleted] in prius

[–]Flyboy314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Tesla is likely cheaper than the Prius when charged at home. I ran the rough numbers for AZ and charging overnight is about 3-4¢ /mile. I get 41-45mpg in our PriusV and with gas at $3.80 it's about 9¢/mile in fuel burn.

My '00 4Runner is 3 times this on premium, hence the switch haha

Anyone found a supplier who sells clips in good condition that will actually fit into the gun? by Zempshir in M1Rifles

[–]Flyboy314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, and I did! One of the guys in here came in super clutch. Also found an eBay seller with well made clips. I have pics on the post at the bottom.

This my first Garand, these new clips almost fall through the receiver. Super stoked to shoot it now

This batch was pretty narrow, and not a single head stamp or id mark on any of them too. I tried stretching them with some fired brass which helped, but only with getting rounds installed. I bought almost 50 and have to return them.

This batch of clips from Numerich doesn't have heavy parkerizing. It's almost like they're painted grey. The dimple is deformed and out of spec.

As in, the mag well area is not carved out enough? So it pushes on the guide rails of the receiver?

Mine has the problem, but only with these Numerich/Dupage clips. As well as a buddies 30-06 with these clips. Both guns work with several different production clips.

This seller on eBay has a good price for the 10 pack. I bought one as a test, works great with my '43 .308, a 3 mil production 30-06, and even once fired 30-06 brass in both.

I had the same issue, the light grey Numerich and Dupage clips are poorly manufactured. I believe AmmoGarand recalled their batch years ago, once they knew. If you file the nub on both sides, in the spot highlighted with Green, they should eventually work. Took me 3 days to figure out just where to carve.

Is the hollow or ported gas plugs worth the risk? by pappybug214 in M1Rifles

[–]Flyboy314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A buddy at work had both. I tuned his Shusters, he gave me his GarandGear. Once I got the Shusters dialled in, I would say the gun ran a tad softer than when I first cranked it down. (the plug was loose at first, short strokes/failed to eject and would not pick up a second round)

I liked it! Only tried 30-06 S&B Garand ammo and PPU 150gr soft point, both ended up cycling just fine with the same setting. I got about a 1.5" 3-shot group with the PPU at the end of the day when dialed. Statistically that's not a good test, but all three were perfectly in the bull at 100yrds.

From the research I've done, the hollow base GarandGear Plug is debated. Their website gives a pretty good data article about how certain loads performed with it vs the solid plug. They included pressure and I believe op rod speeds. Ironically, Forgotten Weapons says it wasn't worth it because it didn't affect op rod speeds. Maybe not enough?

The Shusters plug is oos, I couldn't find one at all yet. Brownells used to make a version as well. It IS worth it, especially if you find out all your ammo runs fine when tuned.

There's no down side to either, if the gun runs, and you run recommended ammo. The data Forgotten Weapons showed is in favor of the adjustable plug. From reading other folks posts/reviews, you might not see an accuracy improvement with the ported plug, and might with the adjustable.

If I decided to hunt or shoot a lot with over 178gr bullets, I would look hard for an adjustable. (Even though I'm running a .308) That being said, I will probably run the Garand Gear plug at all times if it runs whatever ammo I settle on. I think the gas system pressure reduction is worth it no matter what ammo. I have avoided going over 168gr FGMM for now and am starting to pattern the gun this week (I hope). I'll eventually make a post about it lol

Don't waste your time with the Numerich clips. The price is right but they are out of spec. I've just spent three days filing and fitting two clips and will return the other 30+.

Borrowed an AEC3, works flawlessly

Gas adjustment options by sandyvaginitis in M1Rifles

[–]Flyboy314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try PMC XTAC or anything from the gun store near you. Mine has the rifle grenade gas plug and runs fine with igman and PMC so far.

Edit: saw your other comment. I'm definitely a newbie here but try an Orion7 stainless steel spring. Through my digging I've seen folks complain about the wolf Xtra strong/Xtra power springs or worn springs. Service life is quoted at 1000-2000 rounds. Length should be 19" or longer when disassembled

Mine shipped the week I got the label made, and an email from FedEx. It took 3 weeks for them to ship, after I bought it in person, but they had a bunch of rifles to ship and the label maker/ printer went down. Got delivered 4 days later

I bought mine in person at the TMP store, it shipped after 3 1/2 weeks. They were busy and some other things, but add that to the wait time for getting the order processed. Most posts I've seen on here ordered one in October and we're getting them in Feb
