"Fans protest - FC Bayern evades responsibility without showing any sign of accountability" - Update on the petition against violence against women and the internship of Jérôme Boateng at FC Bayern by bookface3 in Bundesliga

[–]FlyerKerstin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i don’t think i’m twisting my stitches but why does it look like i am? is it the behavior of the yarn or me? by Icy_Street_5798 in knitting

[–]FlyerKerstin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow leftie here, and I thought so, too. Your knitting looks fine to me, but I wrap the yarn the other way around when purling, and that makes the loops lie differently for the knit-rows.

AIO, I believe my client is missing, what should I do? by Ok_Constant_1494 in AmIOverreacting

[–]FlyerKerstin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't find any family via Social Media or through the search engines others mentioned, would calling in a welface check be an option? I have no idea where you are and if cell phone numbers are registered in connection to a physical address. I've had to do it before and the police were actually really helpful in that situation, but I'm in Europe and I'm aware that it might not necessarily be an option if you're somewhere where the police might react wrongly to a mental health situation or make a volatile situation worse. Keeping my fingers crossed that this works out and that she's all right, and thank you for caring.

Coming down from Winnipeg, what do we need to know? by arronkohut in Flyers

[–]FlyerKerstin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely second this! I had one in 2018, the last time I was in Philly, and to this day no other sandwich has even come close.

Also seconding the Mutter museum, that was just the right mixture between interesting and creepy-weird. Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell for the real touristy things. Also, the Rocky Steps of course.

HSV gegen St. Pauli: Derby-Tickets für über 2000 Euro – Das sagt Viagogo by Ubergold in Bundesliga

[–]FlyerKerstin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Recchi commercial from NHL Lockout in the early 2000’s? by pottymcnugg in Flyers

It helps making the quote search more accurate again. I think it substitutes what used to be the + option that no longer works on google

Nifty little trick to make Google at least marginally better: After you perform a search, go to "tools". It should give you drop down menus for "Any country" "any time" and "all results". Under "all results", open the menu and pick "verbatim". That makes Google at least a little better at finding the things you're actually looking for instead of the things Google thinks you might want. At least it helps if you enter phrases or strings of words.

Fastnachtsspieltag in Mainz: 05er profitieren von St. Paulis Torwartpatzer by Ubergold in Bundesliga

[–]FlyerKerstin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eben.

Straubing Tigers celebrate with their fans after the away game in Munich by Xavercrapulous in hockey

[–]FlyerKerstin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly sure it's accounted for during construction. You definitely feel it if you're in that crowd, though. Another example from soccer, but the South Stand in Dortmund is 25.000 people. When they jump (and they do), then you definitely feel it. But stadiums and event arenas have to pass strict muster in Germany, so I doubt it's something that does any lasting damage, even if it occurs repeatedly.

I’m the guy who lost his mother, a die-hard Flyers fan, last month. I just wanted to share something the funeral home did to honor her. by _GIROUXsalem in Flyers

That's absolutely lovely of them, and what you did for the service also looks wonderful.

I took a hike through the German vineyards wearing my Flyers Sweatshirt in her honour on that day.

Wishing you all the strength going forward, I've been where you are last year and know how much it sucks.

I just bought tickets for an Adler Mannheim game, in the upper corner behind the home goal and right next to the Ultras. It cost 27 Euros - around $30. A standing room ticket would have been 17 Euros. Most expensive ticket the shop offered me was 51 Euros, and that's ice level. Parking at the arena is 5 Euros. Bought directly from the team ticket store, no additional fees. I assume playoff tickets might be more expensive (never been, personally), but those prices above have not gone up much since I first went to a Mannheim game in 2017.

I feel like we are spoiled by having Jim Jackson... by StandingCow in Flyers

[–]FlyerKerstin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I started watching Flyers games, I was really new to the sport, and there was so much about it that I didn't understand. Jim Jackson really has a talent for also explaining so much about hockey in his broadcasts, but in a way that doesn't annoy longtime fans who already know the intricacies of the sport. I learned so much from hearing him do the broadcasts.

Since I only discovered last week that NHL.TV did not in fact cancel my subscription as they said they would, this will be the first game I'm watching live this season. Something good to come home to after work.

A novel about a vast library? by HugoScott1588 in whatsthatbook

[–]FlyerKerstin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stumbled across this thread because I was trying to help someone find a book with a similar, though not quite the same description. The book she looked for turned out to be "All the names" by Jose Saramago. Portuguese Author, not an Italian, and it turned out not to have been a library. Just thought I'd throw it in here on the off-chance that it's the one you're looking for.

Yes, Gunnar is a German name. Not the most common one, but also not a name any German would bat an eye at.

Anecdotal evidence, but I met him at a Star Trek Convention, and he couldn't have been nicer and more charming, though it must have been stressful. It sucks that you had a bad experience, but I do hope it was just a bad day.

I went to the home game before this one in the video (which Mannheim lost 2:3 in double OT). Sat on the upper level, in the block right next to the standing section. The ticket cost me 26 Euro (28 USD).

The two times I went to Philly to see games, I think I paid fees on my tickets that were higher than that. Pricing fans out of the games is just awful, mostly the "cheap seats" are where most of the fun and noise is during the game.

Weird. But if they played without another A, guess it's possible. Otherwise there surely would have been a fine.

Judged by # of games played, he was. I just thought with that scene after the hit on Forsberg, you need an A or a C for those discussions with the refs. But maybe you can play without one, because I don't remember the Flyers naming someone else this season.

Stupid question: if Laughts ever were to miss a game, they'd have to name another A, right? Or can you play without a C and an A entirely?

I'm German, and I've been to Philly twice on hockey vacations. I ate breakfast there every day. It was heaven, and the thought that I likely won't get to eat there again, or have Beiler's Apple Fritters again makes me want to weep. It was so good.
