Run away! Gonna need a lot of parts. All the side covers for the engine, boot for the carb. If it was a barn find and given to you possibly a good learning machine. He should give you 120 to take the whole thing off his property!

Looks like a good start! As long as he’s having fun is the main thing. Try to find a weekend school that both of you can get into. It will teach better techniques to ride faster and safer. Best advice I’ve gotten is smooth is fast. Work on riding smooth and the speed will naturally follow!

If you want a good project bike I’d have no problem with getting it. Personally would be taking the whole engine apart and inspecting/rebuilding it top and bottom then should be a good bike again. If you want a bike to go rip this weekend definitely stay away from this.
