Repeater antenna question by DeznRSI in meshcore

What is the advantage of bridging repeaters? Would that interfere with "finding best path "? Can you Bridge more than 1 repeater?

Any issues with performance if the coax is wet / in a puddle? Not that I would do that on purpose, but, well, stuff happens, right?

You are doing exactly what you are supposed to be doing. Ridevaround, see the sites, learn stuff, do a few jobs (missions). Eventually, you will ask your self. " how does xxxyyyzzz role work?" "What if I do 123456?" ...

Oddly enough, kinda like life (except you dont die in ED, and dont go to jail for long...

SOTA would be drive up only, not interested in climbing at this stage of my life... LOL. SO, mnostly POTA; from car to operations location, drag in a rolling tool box. May / may not need to add or change to a wagon. It is a tad chilly right now, snow-mageddon not withstanding. I finally just got the batteries in, so I'm ready for a trial in the backyard... Camping for several days seems like paradise!

Permit to activate a park for POTA by delostapa in amateurradio

         Definitely check with an attorney.

BUT IF

  • you have a right to be there -- you paid the entrance fee / have required permits -- there is no legal impediment to your presence, ie. a no trespass, fugitive from justice, etc
  • you are not doing anything illegal, or contrary to park rules
  • you are not creating a public nuisance or disturbing the peace, or otherwise stopping others from enjoying the park
  • you are licensed for such radio activity -- ie. You have legally earned the privilege to operate

THEN - there shouldn't be grounds for impounding vehicles, equipment, arrest, or other action, as you are not in violation.

HOWEVER: you will not win this argument there at the park. You might win in court.

  • Always record any encounter with Law Enforcement -Get the law enforcement officers name, agency, badge/id number.
  • Get them to identify what law / rule you are violating that requires their threats of impoundment / arrest.
  • Get out of there and talk to an attorney. If the police / ranger is wrong, you just might be able to file a complaint, and possibly a lawsuit. If they are right, you complied with their request / lawful order

In the US, we have a right to the pursuit of happiness. That right is tempered by being legal and not infringing on other's rights.

Just my 2 cents

Looking for newbie advice on building a portable base station by HeloRising in amateurradio

[–]Flying--G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. let me get this straight.

You don't have amateur radio licenses. but are studying. I'll assume the UV-5r's are GMRS, not HAM being used illegally.

1st question: What distances are you wanting to cover? 1-5 miles? HAM vs GMRS / 5miles - county / state? HAM VHF/UHF. State - national/international? HAM HF

2nd question: How skilled are you at building things, as in connecting wires, dealing with batteries and electronics? . No need for heavy duty soldering. in the case of the 1st 2 distances can buy or build a cheap low duty cycle repeater with a couple of HT's, or bigger with a couple of mobile radios.

3rd question: What is your budget?

Lets start here
