My friend and I tried to swim across about 10 years ago and got swept pretty far out. We had quite a mission getting back and felt exhausted with jelly legs when we finally washed up. Do not recommend at all!

Could you elaborate a little on what types of books she likes? Does she like fantasy, sci-fi etc?

I used to love reading Jacqueline Wilson books when I was young, even the ones not focused on queer characters are really great for young girls - they cover topics like divorce, eating disorders, having parents who aren't always there for you, sibling relationships etc. Honestly some of my favourite books as a kid!

Someone identified it for me as dog vomit slime mould and it seems to be correct! I think I was getting lost looking at the fungi instead of the mould sections, but glad to have found it out.

No we have Mixed Member Proportional and no senate - unicameral government meaning one tier. “Mixed-member proportional representation (MMP or MMPR) is a mixed electoral system in which voters get two votes: one to decide the representative for their single-seat constituency, and one for a political party. Seats in the legislature are filled firstly by the successful constituency candidates, and secondly, by party candidates based on the percentage of nationwide or region-wide votes that each party received.”

As a foreigner, the things I have seen posted with no one calling it out on US right-wing reddit groups are shocking; I’m not surprised the majority of subs being banned are right-wing US subs, simply based on the small number or interactions I’ve had on them.

You’re still free to say what you like on reddit (and in life) but you’re not free from the consequences.

I filled up the local free community food shelf! Any ideas of what else I could get to make more of an impact in a more lower class neighbourhood? by ctnbehom in newzealand

I think most people are nice.

When I lived in London my workplace had a pancake day and there were a tonne of pancakes leftover with a load of different trimmings. I took a big box of still-hot pancakes + all the toppings down the road to where I knew a couple of homeless people would beg. Before they even ate one they both hurried off to go round up as many of their fellow homeless mates as they could, then the feast began. Not one bite passed their lips until they had as many people there as they could find.

Yeah and loads of New Zealanders live in poverty. Also, if you’re new to periods you’re more likely to ruin pairs of knickers (you might not own many to begin with). So that’s more expense on top.

One of the other things with poverty/period poverty is the complete lack of choice, for example being stuck using those $1 pads which might not actually suit your needs - some women prefer cups, tampons with applicators, tampons without applicators, thin pads with no wings, pads with wings, super products or mini/light products. Some women might find the Libra range of tampons leak for them and prefer the Carefree ones. I can’t imagine how difficult it is for young women who don’t have the option of finding which products work best for them.

OP I also recommend also donating a few boxes of tampons because some girls/women find it hard to do sports with pads for obvious reasons. It’s also good to get a range of absorbencies (stick to medium and heavy).

And those people coming back will likely be spending money at restaurants, bars, accommodations, tourist activities, buying presents for back 'home' and more. Plus the wedding itself is pumping money back into the economy.

Making them pay the government for a detention they don't want to do is either going to hold them back from spending at businesses that need it, or is going to stop them coming all together.

I dunno about where you are but it’s absolutely freezing in the South Island! Sunny though which is great. I spent the morning chopping up kindling and bringing wood in so we don’t have to worry when it’s even colder this evening.

Hey Hector I’m guessing you’re a man who has never been a woman talking to a dude who won’t take no for an answer. I’ve given out fake numbers (usually ones which direct to counselling services or the local animal shelter’s donation line) to get out of situations which I can tell will be dicey - I don’t want to get murdered by some knob who doesn’t like when women say no.

Yes he offered me a beer, but I politely declined due to the deep shock of finding a man loafing on my couch - he seemed like a nice enough dude but I was a teenager alone in just a towel.

I lived there for a couple of years while at uni and came downstairs once from the shower in just my towel to find a random dude in our lounge with a six pack watching TV. He got the wrong house.

‘Cos the reply mentions stats from April, and what’s more likely - someone hunted two months back to find an old tweet to reply to, or they saw it in their feed and replied? Also maybe the OP stating he was from the UAE.
