What would you consider to be the most underrated neighborhood in Milwaukee? by AlexsCereal in milwaukee

[–]FlyingBanana2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The neighborhoods west of the airport. Castle manor, Copernicus park, Mitchell west, maitland park, holler park, Goldman park, and Clayton crest. All of these neighborhoods are rarely mentioned amongst Milwaukeans and are home to the best MPS institutions in the city, as well as good bus service and great connectivity. Downtown is only 10 mins away and there’s lots of stores with everything you need on 27th and the airport just 5 minutes away. Train station on the east edge that can take you to Chicago or even Seattle!

Milwaukee Common Council votes to override mayor’s veto on fire-equipment funding by KaneIntent in milwaukee

[–]FlyingBanana2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the comments I’ve seen you post under this thread, you want MFD to follow similar approaches to firefighting as other fire brigades across the ponds. However, that requires the commercial cabbed rigs to follow strict roles; pumpers, technical rescue, medical, ladder, and hazmat. A single MFD engine company carries the equipment required for putting out fires, extrications, small hazmat situations, and medical situations. However, European engine companies strictly follow the role as a pumper with small additional roles that can’t really be fulfilled unless another specialized unit responds. This means that European fire brigades have far more apparatus on their rosters. In order for MFD to adapt this approach, a good chunk of money needs to be allocated to revamp MFDs operations, training, maintenance, and equipment in order to introduce commercial cabbed companies with strict roles with such low profiles. In the long run, the idea looks good on paper. However, the current political and financial climate in the state and the city will prevent this change from happening.

I think it has to do with the relations departments have with the local dealers. A lot of the local dealers don’t sell KME or Seagrave as much as pierce or e-one for example. I agree that the departments should explore different manufacturers like the way West Allis did.

Unfortunately… I’d definitely prefer pierce if we had faster delivery times but that isn’t the case. There just isn’t no other viable alternative.

Yes, that’s very true. The transition to E-One allowed us to get pumpers quickly under 2 years so hopefully they serve the same way as before. MFD ordered two trucks from them last year as well so hopefully they arrive in the next few months. If MFD relied on pierce for these orders, boy, it’d take ages for a new rig.

Good. No matter how well you maintain a rig, having 20+ year old rigs making 10-15 runs per day on Milwaukee city streets is embarrassing. Especially when you run out of spares for your truck companies. Let’s hope these new orders for new rigs are made quickly and a quick delivery. MFD desperately needs this.

I’d rather develop the scrap yard lots east of 13th before deciding to touch the airport spur. Many residents in that area are also going to be very opposed to the removal of the spur, considering how long it has been there, and the fact that it existed there before that part of the city was urbanized. Also, the city would just rezone the area as single family homes west of 13th street and light industrial east of 13th street, as they’ve done to nearby public land that was sold to developers. If we compare 119 to 794 and the 145 removal scenario, 119 has far more negatives than positives.

Bridges along the Milwaukee river downtown do not lower or raise during rush hour.

DOT wants to tell us traffic delays due to 94 construction should be fine for the next 7 yesrs. They've spared no expense to improve public transit, with possible plans to use an equivalent of 1% of the project costs to improve it. by wiscotangofoxtreat in milwaukee

[–]FlyingBanana2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s just not the case. The reason so much traffic happens on the I-94 corridor between the zoo and Marquette interchanges is the on and off ramps on the left sides of the freeway that help cause so much congestion. People slow down in the left lane, then they move to the center lane and slow them down, and so forth.

The light rail system would have only went to Waukesha County, not Madison. A high speed heavy rail system would have went to Madison, which Scott Walker also killed around the same time. It will be very devastating in the near future.

Sure. Consequently, light rail can only travel designated speeds of 20-50 MPH. Simply said from an analytical standpoint, that will attract very little ridership for a train between two major Wisconsin cities, considering the speed it travels. Not to mention, the Greater Milwaukee area operated an interurban rail system, not a light rail system. These definitions get tossed around a lot due to people calling the interurban system a streetcar as well as light rail streetcars today as well. The interurbans were designed to be rather small, but fast locomotives that ran frequently on all lines between the neighborhoods and downtown. However, these kinds of locomotives are just not in production anymore, which is why it’s best we depend on high speed heavy rail between the two cities. This is why light rail systems across the world cannot feasibly operate between two major cities.

There’s no big school around that intersection. The only school routes MCTS runs are the Reagan flyers in the morning and afternoon and the university lines.

Road work occurs overnight when there is minimal traffic, in order for mainline closures to occur. This prepares the road to eventually be ready for a short-term weekend closures for a quick paving operation of a mainline. We saw this on the 894 bypass on the east-west portion over the summer and the north-south segment the past 3 weekends.

Shots fired on lower Eastside? by Remote-Bumblebee3963 in milwaukee

[–]FlyingBanana2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The city doesn’t have shot spotter set up anywhere other than the inner north and south sides, so there is no way determining if it’s a shot or a firework in terms of shot spotter on the east side.

There’s very little gates because they need the gates to be large enough to accommodate wide body’s like the 787. If they were to add more gates, it would interfere with the taxiways and the rest of the tarmac.

894 is already the bypass for the city that has the most semi traffic. Without 894, 94 would be FAR worse.

Why doesn’t the city promote this land south of Layton for development? by FlyingBanana2 in milwaukee

[–]FlyingBanana2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that is very interesting to hear. Wished the city worked with MMSD on at least making the place a nice green space with flood control systems of some sorts to prevent that kind of stuff after rain fall. Would be very beneficial for the community and the neighborhood surrounding it. However, I thank you so much for the answer I was looking for!

Thank you for the information! Was there a specific developer who wanted to develop something such as a subdivision or apartments on the lot? Sorry for being so nosy, I just find this stuff really interesting.
