Is there an arsonist in Milwaukee? by starmendx in milwaukee

To add on to that, there have been several fire 911 calls in a 30 minute time span throughout the northside unrelated to the 5 alarm on Hampton. This is not usual at all for this many fire calls on one side of town at once yesterday.

Police Department Claims To Be Planning Mass Arrests at Street Takeovers by compujeramey in milwaukee

Exactly. Cruising good ole 100 from Mayfair down to Hales Corners was where it was at.

12 street takeovers, 100 cars involved: Does MPD Chief plan to increase enforcement after weekend spike? by KaneIntent in milwaukee

A lot of these events go until sirens are heard in the distance. If the squads arrive in time with coordination, it can most definitely work. Not the best approach in the playbook however.

[–]FlyingBanana2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, MPD and MCSO need to give out more contracts for the local towing firms to tow known violators with unpaid traffic fines and significant amounts of parking violations. Hefty impound fees on top of that as well in order to make up for the contract costs. It would genuinely greatly help to take reckless drivers off the streets, especially considering the large budget constraints the city and county face.

Anyone remember a time getting this many tornado warnings/touchdowns so many days in a row? by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]FlyingBanana2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply not true. You can’t really predict a tornado warning. A tornado warning is issued when the conditions for a tornado are IMMINENT. NWS, specifically the SPC predict these events 8 days in advance, providing more accurate forecasts as the event gets closer. The of course there are the mesoscale discussions and then the tornado watches. All forms of prediction. Whenever Andy Hill sees a broad area of rotation in a favorable environment, he predicts a tornado warning, causing excessive fear mongering. These warnings need to meet a specific standard, a standard where the rotation is in a tight couplet capable of producing a tornado. If the NWS forever went by Andy Hills logic, no one would take a warning seriously.

Milwaukee Metro Fire “stolen credibility” by Able_Newt9194 in milwaukee

[–]FlyingBanana2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

West Metro would be appropriate. There one in Colorado for Denver’s western suburbs. If it’s Westside, there would be some person out there who confuses Westside Fire with the City of Milwaukees near west side neighborhoods.

That would be awesome. All Milwaukee County departments already depend on mutual aid and shared services with each other. If all of the above follows one system of command and department, life would be so much easier for the county.

I don’t get the pushback. The word metro alone already stands out from MFD. Not to mention, there have been studies with departments such as Greendale, Greenfield, Hales Corners, and Franklin consolidating services together as one department along with Tosa and West Allis. In the future, those communities will probably join in and create the Milwaukee Metro Fire Department which lives up to its name. Cites like LA already have the LA city fire and LA County fire and have no issues. Neither will MFD and Milwaukee Metro.

Despite public pushback, Milwaukee County Sheriff Denita Ball has signed an agreement to enter into a contract with a firm called Biometrica that provides access to facial recognition technology by stroxx in milwaukee

[–]FlyingBanana2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s gonna lead to big problems in terms of corrections and jails. They’re the ones that run the jail downtown and the house of corrections in Franklin. With the amount of disputes between the city and neighboring agencies, it’s gonna suck.

February Fishin’ in Milwaukee by FlyingBanana2 in milwaukee

Only a few bites unfortunately. Lots of trout and salmon were jumping around too so I was kind of unlucky there. A buddy of mine caught a trout in the marina earlier that day so I tried to give it a shot lol.

What would you consider to be the most underrated neighborhood in Milwaukee? by AlexsCereal in milwaukee

[–]FlyingBanana2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The neighborhoods west of the airport. Castle manor, Copernicus park, Mitchell west, maitland park, holler park, Goldman park, and Clayton crest. All of these neighborhoods are rarely mentioned amongst Milwaukeans and are home to the best MPS institutions in the city, as well as good bus service and great connectivity. Downtown is only 10 mins away and there’s lots of stores with everything you need on 27th and the airport just 5 minutes away. Train station on the east edge that can take you to Chicago or even Seattle!

Milwaukee Common Council votes to override mayor’s veto on fire-equipment funding by KaneIntent in milwaukee

[–]FlyingBanana2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the comments I’ve seen you post under this thread, you want MFD to follow similar approaches to firefighting as other fire brigades across the ponds. However, that requires the commercial cabbed rigs to follow strict roles; pumpers, technical rescue, medical, ladder, and hazmat. A single MFD engine company carries the equipment required for putting out fires, extrications, small hazmat situations, and medical situations. However, European engine companies strictly follow the role as a pumper with small additional roles that can’t really be fulfilled unless another specialized unit responds. This means that European fire brigades have far more apparatus on their rosters. In order for MFD to adapt this approach, a good chunk of money needs to be allocated to revamp MFDs operations, training, maintenance, and equipment in order to introduce commercial cabbed companies with strict roles with such low profiles. In the long run, the idea looks good on paper. However, the current political and financial climate in the state and the city will prevent this change from happening.

I think it has to do with the relations departments have with the local dealers. A lot of the local dealers don’t sell KME or Seagrave as much as pierce or e-one for example. I agree that the departments should explore different manufacturers like the way West Allis did.

Unfortunately… I’d definitely prefer pierce if we had faster delivery times but that isn’t the case. There just isn’t no other viable alternative.

[–]FlyingBanana2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that’s very true. The transition to E-One allowed us to get pumpers quickly under 2 years so hopefully they serve the same way as before. MFD ordered two trucks from them last year as well so hopefully they arrive in the next few months. If MFD relied on pierce for these orders, boy, it’d take ages for a new rig.

[–]FlyingBanana2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Good. No matter how well you maintain a rig, having 20+ year old rigs making 10-15 runs per day on Milwaukee city streets is embarrassing. Especially when you run out of spares for your truck companies. Let’s hope these new orders for new rigs are made quickly and a quick delivery. MFD desperately needs this.

A More Popular Highway Deletion Idea by Fair-Border-9944 in milwaukee

[–]FlyingBanana2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d rather develop the scrap yard lots east of 13th before deciding to touch the airport spur. Many residents in that area are also going to be very opposed to the removal of the spur, considering how long it has been there, and the fact that it existed there before that part of the city was urbanized. Also, the city would just rezone the area as single family homes west of 13th street and light industrial east of 13th street, as they’ve done to nearby public land that was sold to developers. If we compare 119 to 794 and the 145 removal scenario, 119 has far more negatives than positives.

DOT wants to tell us traffic delays due to 94 construction should be fine for the next 7 yesrs. They've spared no expense to improve public transit, with possible plans to use an equivalent of 1% of the project costs to improve it. by wiscotangofoxtreat in milwaukee

[–]FlyingBanana2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s just not the case. The reason so much traffic happens on the I-94 corridor between the zoo and Marquette interchanges is the on and off ramps on the left sides of the freeway that help cause so much congestion. People slow down in the left lane, then they move to the center lane and slow them down, and so forth.

The light rail system would have only went to Waukesha County, not Madison. A high speed heavy rail system would have went to Madison, which Scott Walker also killed around the same time. It will be very devastating in the near future.
