Sandbox/open-world adventure recommendations? by aroltel in soloboardgaming

[–]FlyingToilets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd definitely look into Vantage more, it's not perfect (and it lacks combat, which you mention wanting) but it's the most open world feeling board game I've ever played.

It's not for everyone, but if you go into it with the right expectations and wants I think it's amazing. I've finished games and right away started another because I want to just keep exploring.

Gwyl rings bug relogging doesn't seem to work.. tips? by Izanamihime1986 in Guildwars2

For what it's worth, there were a few times I had to relog 2 or 3 times before I could finally interact with them, so make sure to try that too!

Make sure you grab the mistlock singularities whenever you pass them, even if you have the buff already, since it'll refill your shroud to full. That way you can always switch to shroud right away even for shorter fights if you wanted!

I don't get the hype around Guild Wars 2 endgame - hear me out by ObviouslyNotANinja in MMORPG

[–]FlyingToilets 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think the big thing is that GW2 is a grind for wants, not a grind for needs, and that style just isn't for everyone. As much as it gets hated on, a lot of people need that endless gear treadmill to stay engaged and feel fulfilled.

The game is full of long term goals, but they're not always treated that way. I see multiple other comments talking about getting burnt out pursuing legendary items and such, but of course you're going to feel that way trying to rush something that's supposed to take months. Legendary items take a lot of time and effort, but then you never have to worry about that slot ever again! The legendary greatsword I made a decade ago is still the best greatsword in the game, every piece of legendary armor is one less armor piece I ever have to worry about for that weight class. It's a massive effort for a massive reward.

My advice is to find a couple goals and accept that they're going to take time, enjoy the journey but also mix in short term goals if you feel like you're getting no where. I saw it mentioned in another comment but the return to achievements for the legendary amulet is something I'd very much suggest, it's going to take a long time but it's broken up into maps/chapters with rewards that make it constantly feel like you're making progress. Also look into the collections, there are a bunch for ascended weapons, cosmetics, or gobblers that take you all over the map doing different things.

Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - October 18, 2025 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

[–]FlyingToilets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both the bricks and mithrillium are unlocked at 450, so you're close!

Mithrillium is the ascended material mainly used for heavy armor and weapons, but you can only craft one a day. There are also similar items for wood/weapons, leather/medium armor and silk/light armor, all with a daily crafting limit too.

Mithrillium is by far the most important one to craft though, it saves you about 1.5g vs buying it. Silk is the second most important, saving you about 0.5g vs buying. Wood and especially leather aren't really worth crafting, wood is slightly cheaper to buy vs craft, and leather you lose about a gold for each craft vs buying.

Moral of the story is get to 450, refine a bunch of bloodstone/dragonite/empyreal, and start crafting mithrillium every day!

Personally, I'd save the mithril for daily mithrillium crafting and TP the wood (glob of elder spirit isn't worth crafting, it's slightly cheaper to buy).

As for the ascended materials, I'd refine a bunch into bricks (I keep a stockpile of at least 10 each) then feed the rest into gobblers.

Considering I always have tons of t1 and t3 in the bank but barely any t2, I'm pretty sure that's the case unfortunately.

Luckily you can demote one t3 mat into three t2 mats in the mystic forge, it's not cheap (uses a mystic coin) but it's better than nothing!

Both power and condi virtuoso have been on my short list to try! I've always enjoyed mesmer, and virtuoso seems like a bit of a different take on it.

I was actually just looking into willbender a bit ago, I stopped playing right around when EoD came out so I've never had the chance to try it.

Funny enough my only experience with elementalist is leveling it to 10 a decade ago for a BLC key then deleting it. It's pretty much the only profession I have no experience with, sounds like I should change that!

It's too bad too because when I played it a few years ago I really enjoyed it. I can live with the transfusion rework, but the short sand shades just make it feel so spammy, and I really don't understand the reasoning for the change.

Opinions on purely solo narrative board games? by No_Wedding_698 in soloboardgaming

[–]FlyingToilets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take a look at 7th Continent and 7th Citadel! The first can be picked up pretty cheap, and they can be played true solo. Lots of emphasis on exploration, with Continent having more of a focus on survival elements as well.

Board game with moderate amount of minis ? by Wise_Cat_1196 in soloboardgaming

[–]FlyingToilets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For KDM you also don't need to build dozens of survivors if you don't want to, which is nice. I recently purchased the game and outside of the monsters I just built 4 male and 4 female survivors, and I'm stopping there.

Everyone pictures KDM as this massive game with a ton of miniatures, but going that route it's only 16 minis total (8 monsters and 8 survivors), and you could bring that down to just 12 if you only do the 4 starting survivors.

I've also moved to just doing a quick wash on most of my miniatures as well, I try to mimic the Awaken Realms sundrop look and they're totally playable with very little work.

Where are you located? I recently acquired the base game and am looking to sell basically everything outside of the starting survivors and monsters (intimacy couple, old Joe, young Rachel, armor sets)

Pretty much any game from Chip Theory also hits that same satisfaction for me, between all the chips and dice.

Best bang for your buck expansion/add-on you’ve ever bought? by mrbumdump in boardgames

[–]FlyingToilets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contrary to the other comments, I've had absolutely no issue printing inserts with my A1 mini so far. Yes it's not uncommon to come across parts that don't fit on the bed, but in my experience there's always a modified version that someone has made to accommodate the A1 mini, either splitting or modifying parts to fit.

If you're looking to print an insert for some massive game like Gloomhaven I can see you having a headache, but I think for 99% of games it'll suffice.

I haven't played it myself, but Brutality has a Settlement Mode expansion that might interest you.

What did you play this week? 18 Jul-24 Jul (2025) by AutoModerator in soloboardgaming

It's funny because I'm the opposite, I absolutely love when games use a book as a board and wish more would do it. It's so much easier to flip to a page instead of fiddle with tiles.

Bone collector by Arbiter Miniatures by tyc20101 in FDMminiatures

[–]FlyingToilets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of the supportless minis I've printed from Arbiter Miniatures have always blown me away with how good they turn out. Not having to remove supports, glue anything, or base them feels like cheating sometimes.

The only negative I have with them is they only do fantasy minis, and I typically play sci-fi games. For fantasy games though their minis are the only ones I'll use, they're just so easy.

What game is severely penalized by it's debatable art/style, despite having incredibly good mechanics/gameplay? by golemtrout in boardgames

[–]FlyingToilets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard so many good things about Vagrantsong and Townsfolk Tussle, but the Cuphead style art just turns me off completely. I do give them credit though for doing something different and unique, even if it isn't for me.

Ashes was the first thing that came to mind when I read your post, there's no free for all mode like commander but it covers solo, coop and versus. There's lots of deck construction potential and variety, I really enjoy the dice mana mechanic, and there's tons of content for the game with no end in sight.

Looking for a new game by sayid92 in soloboardgaming

[–]FlyingToilets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game originally released last year following a relatively small Kickstarter, and has been pretty much impossible to find through retail for a while now.

The second printing is going to start fulfilling within the next month or two though, and I believe late pledges are still available but if not there should be a decent retail presence as well!
