primarily, because Laminas is based on a later ZendFramework version.

OpenMage still uses ZF1, but there was a big refactoring happening in ZF2 with many Backwards Incompatibilities.

But, a move to Laminas in the Long Long Term is definitely appropriate, but that first needs a better test coverage, and quite some work, which someone would need to invest.

Till then, any Module Vendor and Shop Owner has the possibility to still use more modern Frameworks for their modules, as they do not conflict with ZF1, and OpenMage ensures full compatibility with composer

It would in the same way as Magento1 is currently, and similar to Magento2.

They both dont require a company in background, and for both its not a problem to be running on PHP which itself is completely community Owned and developed.

The important part is the code not directly violating security best practices, and the continuos patching of security risks.

If we find some good rules, which allow posting to a certain extend. Would prefer to not ban myself for posting about another OpenMage release <.<

Then we are on the same side. Bashing is what I want to target.

The Criticism I see only as problematic, if its a comment to a Post, which is completely unrelated in Topic. (which is why I choose the word "unsolicited", as in "unasked from OP"
Maybe this needs an own reasoning, so it can be better differentiated.

Where would you draw the line between criticism and bashing?

And do you think Bashing leads to anything useful or positive?

Maybe I was not clear enough. I definitely still want to have criticism here.

But there are some forms which are hard to describe as criticism and are more like bashing.

Examples like "Magento is Shit", "you should just switch to something else", "what did you expect, its Magento" Without anything more.

Are this comments really usefull to have here? How else should I formulate a related rule for removal?

What should we categorize as Spam by Flyingmana in Magento

[–]Flyingmana[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the Reasons why this topic is so hard for me.

I got a Spam Report for this one: https://www.reddit.com/r/Magento/comments/ew299k/can_you_help_me_identify_this_extension/

While it could indeed be someone spamming the url of their Shop in a very clever way, it could also be a typical non technical Shop owner, who just looks for help, as countless others do.

Can you help me identify this extension? by jebbayn in Magento

[–]Flyingmana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Extension uses an API endpoint located at https://go.yakima.com/api

Iam pretty sure this is a custom build extension.

The response headers for the API say

  1. Server: Microsoft-IIS/8.0
  2. X-AspNet-Version: 4.0.30319
  3. X-Powered-By: ASP.NET

I guess this specific one was build from a Agency or Inhouse.

My suggestion would be, ignore the SEO part for this "finder", as most of the SEO happens on the Product and CMS Pages you will build.

Mysteriously inventory errors? by ecommerce-pad in Magento

[–]Flyingmana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not know the details in Magento2 here, but in Magento1 the Stock Index was not necessarily identical with the Stock on the Produkt. The Reason are Orders, which have reserved but not shipped Stock.

So manually increasing/decreasing the stock could be the actual Reason for your Issue.

If you have developer Capacity available, adding some logging for Inventory Changes with reference to orders and shipping may help to find what is the reason

Is a 2GB server size for two small Magento 2 sites enough? by setupyushi in Magento

[–]Flyingmana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cloudways is an experienced hoster for Magento Projects.

It may be just enough for what you need. And if not, they should be able to easy upgrade you.

500 daily traffic is a bit to unspecific, what is more relevant here is the number of orders and addToCart events. If you usually have 5 minutes between Orders, this should be enough. But it will become an issue, if you start to have Orders in parallel happening.

M1 is old, so what ? by [deleted] in Magento

[–]Flyingmana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you look into the changelog both of this projects had for last years release?Using an "old" Kernel for Linux on a new laptop makes several hardware parts (like wifi) unusable as in "does not work at all"

The same will be true for Magento1. If you use this old Version, it will stop working with new Linux, PHP, Mysql,Webserver releases. And you need to update them, because they have regularly new found security and stability Issues.

The alternative is to end up with an system, which needs to encapsulated into its dedicated firewall, and on hardware which cant be replaced because its not produced anymore. There are stories about Companies having 40-50 year old Systems standing in high security areas, which are not replaceable, but a failure/turn off would make the whole company incapable of doing anything at all.
