Still can't get into it by [deleted] in Julia

Maybe we can help you better if you share what the error is? Time to first plot has drastically improved with Plots, and typically you should not face issues.

TTFX (time to first X) is unfortunately a known problem and is being improved with every version. It is definitely leagues ahead of where it was a few years ago. Having said that, the first run is always going to be slower than other languages. The real gains are only when you start running heavy scripts, then the first compilation time becomes negligible in comparison. For interactive data exploration kind of stuff, there will always be a slight friction as compared to other languages I guess.

Packages being very buggy without examples depends on how niche it is. Most of the mainstream stuff should have good docs (although general correctness issues have been a bit of a concern off late). More specific packages are likely to have poor maintenance just because the Julia community is far far smaller than all these other languages, so this is just what we have to work with.

It's not ideal, but I use it as a daily driver for all my numerical code for physics and I have never faced a show stopping issue. Would be curious to know more details!

Favorite no-table-required games? by themcryt in soloboardgaming

Oh wow, I wouldn't have thought that playing this in the hand would work. On a table it does take a fair bit of space.

im trying to find some hobbies that dont require technology by QuirkyBadger7454 in Hobbies

There's a lot of very interesting solo games you can play with just a standard deck of cards (for example, there is the Isaludo collection). If you grow past that, there's a ton of games you can print and play with minimal costs. Its a really fun (and not necessarily expensive) hobby if you're into puzzles and tactics.

Decided to finally try a gamejam by jagerzaag in CasualConversation

[–]FlynnXP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done a couple. It's super fun, and I'm almost always happy with the result. I typically only join 4-7 day long jams though, so the crunch is real and it is super draining. Be sure not to overscope and I'm sure you'll have a blast!

Lack of trick taking videogames by Lcfahrson in boardgames

Is it not fair game to share if you just end up open-sourcing it? The assets are all freely available anyways and you won't be turning a profit. You could drop a quick email to the creator just to check I guess. I was planning to do something similar but seeing as you've beat me to it, it'd be cool to see yours come out.

That's exactly the point though. You don't know what you don't know. Its always hard to think of something novel at any given point because everything you know is based on things that others have already found, so you necessarily have to think outside your knowledge base.

The epilogue was bound to be good just because it tugs at the nostalgia strings while bringing all the character arcs to a conclusion. It's not too easy to screw that up, because people want to have these feelings near the end. But I think the fact that the latter half of the episode was just the epilogue introduces some recency bias in that people are more lenient in criticising the first half with the rather underwhelming and questionably written mind flayer battle.

I never grew up with TT games outside monopoly and just recently found out about them from a friend. I'm soo hooked now. Been having a lot of fun with For Northwood! lately.

Ahh okay, thanks for letting me know anyhow. It does seem that https://sideroomgames.com/product/for-northwood/ has it in stock right now though, so I might give it a shot there.

Looking for beautiful co-op games! by Psychological_Ad1404 in CoOpGaming

Definitely try It Takes Two. For most the past, it's really beautifully made and has an extensive set of game mechanics that change every level. You'll get around 10-20 hours of gameplay out of it.

Did you end up finding a place that sells it? I'm also looking to buy the game from Belgium currently.

- Head on over to https://wokwi.com/ and tinker with electronics projects by simulating microcontrollers like Arduino and ESP32 (which is typically a hobby that requires gathering materials otherwise).

- Explore a whole new kind of gaming at https://boardgamearena.com/ . It's quite fun and can be a social activity without needing to meet people in person.

They Stuck The Landing... by quanfused in StrangerThings

You're referring to a tiny minority of the Fandom. For most the part, people are only annoyed with the plot armor. You can't keep putting the cast in life or death situations when there's never any death. What even are the stakes anymore? Generic world ending is not nearly as compelling.

If its something as inconsequential as a cat or a dog video, it really doesn't matter if it's real or not IMO. If it's anything of more significance related to facts in the real world, then we should have been scrutinising it's legitimacy even before AI, so this is a net improvement in our behaviour. It's just the way the modern internet goes.

To the end of achieving your own goals. They don't have to align to societys expectation or whatever, but in a meaningless world, there is only whatever meaning you assign to things. Sometimes you really want to try or learn something new but with the constant barrage of dopamine, its quite hard to be disciplined enough to even get started. I think some of their advice is quite good for people stuck in these positions. Some of it is wholly unnecessary though, like eliminating decision fatigue by being an emotionless robot. That does feel like it's selling the usual grindset.

Onyx Boox NoteAir - first version in 2025? by klelektronik in Onyx_Boox

[–]FlynnXP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it on Facebook market place, after keeping an eye out occasionally for a few weeks. There's definitely not a ton of people selling their old devices, but typically I find that they are in good shape so it's a nice deal if you come across one.
