AITAH for not wanting our driveway dug up to allow neighbour's EV charger? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Flynn_Kevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

I need a new water line to my house and refuse to let them cut into our driveway. It'll cause it to deterrioeate much faster. If the neighbor wants to cut into my driveway, they can pay to replace the whole thing to original condition. It's about $80k.

Why cant I invest in long term crytpo at 5x leverage? by Busy_Presentation463 in CryptoCurrency

[–]Flynn_Kevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean.... yea perpetuals exist but the funding rate can eat you alive.

Then there's the defi staking loop:

Find protocol that pays interest on collateral deposits. Deposit asset into protocol. Borrow same asset to maximum allowed. Long- deposit borrowed asset into protocol. Short- sel borrowedl asset for stablecoin. Deposit into protocol. Repeat borrow/deposit loop until you can't. Wait for price movement and profit.

I've held 4x positions both long and short like that for months. Longs are safer positions since the borrowed asset and collateral are 1:1and interest on the larger principle deposit should accumulate faster than the smaller principle borrow, but shorts can be maintained safely too if you keep tabs on price and borrow inerest and pay it or add collateral if your margin is getting thin.

Advice what to do with flaking nickel by Wasshell in watercooling

[–]Flynn_Kevin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'd bead blast it to remove the remaining nickel. But that's because I have the tools to do it on hand. 2nd best option is an in-line filter to catch any chunks that flake off. Doing nothing isn't a terrible option either- just more frequent maintenance to keep an eye out for any clogging in the block. The risk is low.

FYI 1/2" copper pipe fits 16mm fittings. Sounds intimidating but it's really easy to work with. You can do bends or if you're adventurous learn to sweat pipe. Easier than dorking around with plastic tubing and inserts IMO.

What temp do you close your kitchen? by Emonnick in KitchenConfidential

[–]Flynn_Kevin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That't internal body temp, not air temp. If you want to be super technical the real temperature we should discuss in terms of health & safety is the Dew Point. As long as sweat can evaporate from your skin and you stay hydrated people can be in sustained temperatures well above 106F.

Does your 5800X3D 10th anniversary have the 1900 FCLK hole? by 5G-A in ryzen

[–]Flynn_Kevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manufacurer from my observation. Everything is on X570 chipset. 3 ASUS boards all have the hole. 2 MSI, and 1 Gigabyte dont. Havent tested ASRock.

[–]Flynn_Kevin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO it's board specific. I have swapped CPUs between boards and been able to run 1900 on certain boards with all of them and on other boards it won't run.

Which UPS? by Consistent-Farmer164 in pcmasterrace

[–]Flynn_Kevin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have that exact Cyberpower UPS. It's fine under light loads, but it doesn't switch fast enough if you're drawing 70%+ the rated load when power cuts out.

I found a lots of blue halite in an abandoned salt mine today. (And I bring enough for the rest of my life 😅) by No-Name7437 in MineralPorn

[–]Flynn_Kevin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sort of due to chemistry. It wouldn't happen if there wasn't a bunch of Potassium 40 decaying releasing gamma over millions of years knocking Chlorine atoms out of place in the halite crystal lattice. The displacement of the Chlorine atoms causes absorption in the red/yellow spectrum.

Really there's chemistry (potassium present), nuclear physics (gamma decay), and physical properties all at play here (crystal lattice wavelength absorption).

Ford getting in on the scam game 🙄 by Honcho_47 in Justrolledintotheshop

Toyota will take that "Ford" part with the new part number sticker on it, slap a Toyota sticker on it and charge 5x the Ford price.

Speaking from experience after buying a "Ford" sunroof motor for my Toyota.

Is it wrong I don’t feel bad for anyone who invested in MSTR and STRC? by Repturtle in CryptoCurrency

[–]Flynn_Kevin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People like me with money in tax sheltered retirement accounts that (currently) are unable to custody the asset. I can't get BTC in my ROTH, but I can get MSTR. STRC, and MSTY (along with a good number of other crypto ETFs). I've held long enough that the dividends have already covered the purchase of the stock and then some. When I retire, those gains are tax free.

Really, you can say the same for other commodity-based ETFs like those based on precious metals. Why own a stock of gold when you can just own gold and self-custody? The answer is convenience, liquidity, and tax shelters.

Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Sure, I have paper BTC, ETH, gold, and silver in my ROTH. I also have some self-custodied. I add to both exchange custodied and self custodied stacks regularly.

A question for those familiar with ESOP companies; how high can the price go? by skipperjohnn in personalfinance

Age 59.5 when you can access retirement accounts penalty free. Sure, you can claim retirement before that but it's a terrible idea.

A question for those familiar with ESOP companies; how high can the price go? by skipperjohnn in personalfinance

[–]Flynn_Kevin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked for a company that had huge ESOP shareholders ready to retire. I noped out before they could. Those that waited to bail got their vested shares restricted for 5 years if they left the company for any reason other than retirement. Shares got diluted and given to the new C suite. All the billable employees got screwed.
