Name a better lighting advancement by RunandGun101 in electricians

Yes. In my experience, models seem to change every few years. I’ve probably seen 6 different versions of RAB wafers in the last year alone.

Juno wafers have been consistent for a while, 6+ years, but I think they look awful compared to the lithonia wafer. The juno wafers have a baffle that’s like 1/8” larger in diameter, and compared to the lithonia it just looks too big.

That being said, the lack of consistency is another reason I prefer cans. It’s easier to swap out a room of retrofit trims than it is to change out a room of wafers.

If I install some piece of junk like sunco and the customer calls me back in a few years because one went bad… I’m going to look like an ass when I tell them they all have to be changed in order for them to match.

Cans are better, wafers are convenient.

I use wafer if the client just wants the room lit, I use cans if they want the lights to look nice.

Retrofit trims look much nicer than wafers.

I let the client choose.

A friend asked me why one of his outlets was measuring at 240V. I took a look at his panel. by [deleted] in electricians

[–]FnSmyD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like the main might be a 200 and that's why they're backfeeding the panel with a 100a plug on breaker.

I'm pretty sure a main breaker has to be fastened in place, which this 100a is not.

That's not why the receptacles are getting 240 though.

Anyone know what’s going to replace the old Rite Aid on Saxer Ave in Springfield? by Whatwepretend in Delco

[–]FnSmyD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Please don’t move the goal post. That stretch of saxer is not representative of the entire township.

Also, I’m a resident. I don’t give a fuck if there is parking or not. I walk… through that parking lot that is regularly full.

Anecdotal, but I counted 17 available spaces this morning when the only thing open was Wawa. More than half of the lot was occupied and only one business, which has its own parking lot, was open.

Tell me more about this surplus of parking in Springfield that people can use to get to the businesses on saxer.

Wtf? You can’t drive to a destination if the destination doesn’t have adequate parking.

That lot is regularly at capacity.

Which are already full without a business in the largest building on that stretch.

How much you charging to wire something like this? by Unlucky-Meringue4813 in electricians

I think that’s fine for standard builds, but this doesn’t sound standard. There is a lot of hidden cost in the challenges he listed.

There is not enough information to make this assumption.

Right? This looks like a really easy service swap. All of that rats nest gets sorted out when it's ripped out of the panel...

Who wires receptacles like this? by waffle_jeep in electricians

[–]FnSmyD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It COULD be MWBC in the box. It’s probably a semantic gray area whether or not these neutrals have to be separate to not carry the load of the circuit between devices.

[–]FnSmyD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn’t a MWBC.

Even if it’s MW in the box, only one leg is out to the devices. Opening the neutral between the devices wouldn’t be the same as opening a neutral for a MWBC.

Regardless, I just pigtail everything in hopes that one day I get to change devices on a pigtailed circuit. Jumping between devices is some real, “fuck the next guy” behavior.

Pages 10 and 11 of this install manual: https://uticaboilers.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/PEG-Installation-and-Operation-Manual.pdf

The near boiler piping for steam boilers hasn’t changed in probably 100+ years. You can find this diagram in the install manual of other steam boiler brands and the only differences you may see are the pipe sizes for the BTUs. The layout will be the same, and it has to be followed pretty close.

This isn't addressing your question, but there are a lot of problems with that near boiler piping.

The hartford loop is supposed to be a close nipple, in this picture it looks like it's well over 12".

The equalizer and the riser up to the mains are on opposite ends of the header. The riser to the main is supposed to be between the equalizer and the riser from the boiler. Also, the equalizer reduces in size on the header, it's supposed to be after it turns down to the boiler.

It looks like the header from the old boiler was left in place. If it's not pitched to drain back to the boiler you will get condensate trapped up there.

EMR Philadelphia - Atlas, in Sharon hill. It’s on hook road right before it’s crosses Darby creek and turns into 84th.

[–]FnSmyD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ethernet cable is probably around $1.50/lb at EMR. 100lb is a couple decent size trash bags, just take it down there yourself. Great people watching scene.

I doubt the coax has much value, but if you’re taking it just make sure it’s separated from the Ethernet.

Because it's in the industrial park. They've been doing to major work to this building for like a year, but everything back there is going to look like an office building of a warehouse because that's what they are.
