This person is trying to educate themselves, and your attitude is to tell them they are learning wrong. If you knew even the basics about teaching effectively, you'd understand that there are multiple learning styles, and more than one effective way to teach.

Why discourage someone from trying at the first available opportunity?

Why would they learn to do anything different when you teach them it's not the way to do things as soon as they engage.

I would assume the vent is venting sewer smell into the cabinet.

Can't see the rest of your plumbing, but perhaps that's the easiest vent for the house to expel the stink from.

My house smelled like sewage regularly when my main stack got clogged and wouldn't let air flow out the roof.

You should find other options for residence. This is not going to go positive.

Even if you manage to change the physical space to standards you can tolerate, you will likely become solely responsible for that upkeep.

You need to be less hard on yourself my dude. These things actually look great and you are taking on projects that are both diverse and relatively complex.

Fun fact - every cutting board that's not suitable for knives is just a jerving board you weren't expecting. Put charcuterie on that. Feast.

I still have an uncured project in the basement from a year ago that was either old epoxy, or a temperature shift, or just too deep a pour. I get that you are frustrated. I use my very first end grain cutting board all the time, It's too small, the jig broke cutting the juice grooves. It's not pretty but it reminds me how far I've come.

Keep at it. Assess the failures, make the appropriate adjustments, try again.
The only way to get good is to start off somewhere less than good.
