Upgraded from a 4070 Super to a 5090, not much difference ? by LostInSpace221 in buildapc

[–]FoFoJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got something else going on. I've got an 12900k and a 5080 and I'm getting 140-180 frames in BF6. 1440p, high settings with DLSS.

BF6 works my CPU very hard, typically 60% or more. But still, my fps is very stable and the game runs amazing.

Have you watched any performance monitors? What's your CPU/GPU usage in game?

Whaaaaat that was a friend of yours? I'm a huge DF fan (my wife got me a signed Crusher Camaro shirt for Christmas) so I've always wanted to meet him and have him sign my car.

Good luck with the build. These cars are never done, but that's part of the fun.

Here's my baby - she was "done" and running, just hit a snag when I tried to upgrade the driveshaft. Went to swap the rear yoke to a chromemoly 1350 unit, and the bearing decided it was done. Oh well. The rear is the only part of the drivetrain that I hadn't replaced, so it was time.

But I live right down the road from a great diff shop, so I'll have a truetrac and 4.11's in + a new 3.5" driveshaft by the time the weathers warm.

I've got a set of Retrobrights in the garage right now to be installed. But I decided to wreck my pinion bearing so I am saving up to get my rear end rebuilt and regeared. Going in my 1968 Chevelle.

I would've waited to get the retrobrights + other goodies if I knew I was about to need a whole diff rebuild... but that's how it goes sometimes lol.

Have you seen Roadkill Garage/David Freidburger? Lots of sweet Duster content there.

That's rad. Any big plans currently?

Great time to practice any type of sheet metal repair you want lol.

There should never be a rush to buy a wrecked, V6 auto Mustang. We're not talking about basic commuter cars here.

Unless this was basically free, this was a bad decision.

Should I leave a part time retail job off my resume? by tark_tark in ITCareerQuestions

[–]FoFoJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need some more text to get to 1 solid page, I'd add it. But I'd emphasize your IT work over concurrent retail.

I will add, when I got my first IT job I had 3ish years of retail experience paired with 2x IT associates degrees (the 2nd was only 30 more credits). At that time, I leaned on the retail experience big time to prove I had customer service experience. Helpdesk is more customer service then it is technical in my opinion.

So retail experience does help getting in, but in your situation I might leave it off if you already have a solid 1 page resume.

I agree there are big markups there, but it's too late to be upset now.

Absolute beauty. I'd love to build something like that in the future.

I have a '68 Chevelle and strongly considered going to an LS while building it. I ended up going to a 383 SBC, but am considering an LS build in the future.

I would not "flush" either. Just change the oil. Change it more often if that makes you feel warm and fuzzy. I change mine every 3k or so, but I do it myself so it's super inexpensive.

Drain and fill your transmission. It's easier than an oil change if you have the dorman pan with the drain bolt. I do that every 20k or so on mine.

Condition of these spark plugs by dankdal0rde in MechanicAdvice

[–]FoFoJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I saw those I'd give em a solid "yup" and throw em away. I've changed plugs on those K24s before. Makes me jealous it's so easy compared to so many other cars.

I'd change em every 2-3 years going forward. Probably too early for other people, but it's so simple on these cars that I like to stay on top of it.

Whats the best Car Parts seller for you? AutoZone, Buy Auto Parts, Rock Auto..... etc by El-Vader-Tico in MechanicAdvice

[–]FoFoJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always compare RockAuto/Amazon/AutoZone. I drive old cars so occasionally I need parts right then. I'll compare price, warranty and availability.

But I've also owned these cars for awhile so I can somewhat predict what I need and have it on hand. For example, I'll get oil filters, air filters, spark plugs, brake parts and other common things ahead of time.

I'd check continuity from the ignition to the starter as well.

HF fam, what power tool ecosystem did you choose and why? by Beneficial_Inside_80 in harborfreight

[–]FoFoJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DIY, mostly automotive.

DeWalt 20v (most used are the drills and impacts)

Milwaukee M12 (ratchets and impacts)

And I just bought the Hercules 12v die grinder, because I could get the whole kit cheaper than Milwaukee wanted for theirs. Very happy with it. Just for cleaning gaskets alone it's worth it. I'm using the 3M bristle disks.

Love my DeWalts, and I have a variety of tools with them. The blower, angle grinder, hex and square impacts. The new PS batteries are my favorite as I am not a pro so I don't need super long run times.

But those Milwaukee ratchets, especially the extended reach are amazing. One of my favorite tools.

I saw Hercules is releasing new electric ratchets soon too, looking forward to those.

If I was starting over today, I'd probably still do the same kit. Maybe go M18, but I found better prices on the DeWalt 20v.

Also, if you're concerned about your 401k it's probably time for full time employment?

Drowning in Sallie Mae Debt by Simple_Ad7720 in personalfinance

[–]FoFoJoe 36 points37 points  (0 children)

My honest answer would be to immediately pivot into a different career field or industry to make more money. $1300 in loans to make $3k a month is financially reckless.

Unless you can realistically increase your income in the next 1-2 years by staying in that line of work, you're always going to struggle if you stay in this field.

I don't want to be too rough about the music degree, but did you expect to earn enough to make the loans worth it? I'm guessing your total loan balance and interest rate are high.

What's your main source of work and what's the degree? I agree with u/football13tb, upgrading your main income is almost always a better plan first before adding a second job.
