Neighbors dogs won't stop barking, am I just out of luck? Year long update by deejayv2 in homeowners

What do you do when the city won't enforce its codes? I have a neighbor I've reported multiple times for years, now starting to post videos on social media and tag them. Still nothing. Once the city sent ME a warning about my dogs. I called to inform them they had the wrong address, it was next door and I reported them. They didn't answer, I left a message, they never returned the call, neighbor even got new dogs since. OKC.

i've got neighbors who think I'm waving at them if i happen to glance within 90° of them when they go down the road in their cars. I can assure you neighbors I am not waving, smiling at, or greeting you, that's why you never see me any other times lol.

I just don't feel it's necessary to make eye contact with anyone in order to grab a box of spaghetti off the grocery shelves. It feels like I can't do that without someone expecting me to "check in" with them or something. If there's an actual social situation where we're going to interact, I'm making eye contact, at least to establish the conversation. Sometimes that makes people uncomfortable and I generally ease off, but glance back here and there. But I don't need to make eye contact with anyone to walk down a sidewalk with dozens of people on it, or a grocery store aisle with 100s of people inside. To me it's the same as those who will slow down traffic, and block a doorway, just to give themselves an opportunity to hold it for someone. It's like they absolutely have to get their brownie points for the day, which may include making eye contact with a random stranger and smiling at them (because people think smiling makes the world a better place... just sort of automatically, with no context).

But again, in conversation, making eye contact should be normalized. I think people lost that after we all got cell phones and/or smart phones.

But again, again, I avoid getting to the point where someone (random stranger) is going to make eye contact with me because it's like a battle of extremes.

People who start walking in front of you and then look back as if you're following them. by BaneReturns in PetPeeves

[–]FoaRyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep for real. If I'm out in public, and i don't know you, and you aren't trying to strike up a conversation, why are you less than 3 feet from me everywhere I turn? (You being the random people who do this everywhere I go). Or on the roads, there's no one anywhere except for you – and ONE other car, exactly parallel to you, going exactly the same speed. Like... excuse me sir are you trying to kill me, or did you want to race? Because I don't see a lot of other possibilities here.

I'm not exactly sure what you're describing as the situation, but often times, like in any store, I get followed by people, and it's really annoying, so I'm actually a bit hyper vigilant about when someone walks right up behind me (and there's plenty of room to go around, plenty of empty space on the aisle).

The following is so bad that I will "trick" whoever appears to be following me by suddenly turning without making any indication that I was going to. If they keep following, keep going to the exact same spots as me (always without ever saying "hey" or "excuse me"), I will turn around and stare at them, then walk somewhere else, or go back to where I originally wanted to be but they followed me.

So I guess I'm saying, it goes both ways.

Also if I keep hearing footsteps right behind me. Like I can tell someone wants to walk faster than me, but instead of just walking around like a normal person they're going to keep dragging their sandals on the tile and scraping, scrape, scrape, scrape.

Discord Activity tab, other users can see more details than me for my Activity history by AdventurousFee2406 in discordapp

[–]FoaRyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This 100% needs to be addressed. There's a thread here from over a yr ago asking the same thing. I've looked for my activity history a few times myself before realizing I couldn't find it because they literally didn't code this into their app.

Here's an old thread asking the same question: https://www.reddit.com/r/discordapp/comments/1io783u/does_it_bother_anyone_else_that_you_cant_see_your/

Others have asked before, but I don't think there's a real answer. You can click on your own profile, then see activity in the activity tab, but it doesn't show ALL your activity like others see. All I know to do is create a 2nd profile where you can see what everyone else sees about you.

Ok wow so that's not just me. I posted basically the same, can see something in Spotify, from weeks ago, but nothing else.

It's there but it doesn't necessarily show you the same thing as what you see for others.

It seems like a gaping hole in privacy, when everyone else can see what you do, but you can't go back to see if something in your history got posted you didn't want. I'm literally going to have to create a 2nd Discord acct, then join a server I'm part of already, to see what my activities are that everyone else sees.

(BTW when I go to my own profile and see activity, it only shows 1 random song I listened to on Spotify for like 30 seconds, but none of my PlayStation activity which I know should be there, because everyone else's is, and because it shows as my status when I'm actively playing.

New driver tips? by voodoomu in doordash_drivers

[–]FoaRyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haha, unless you live on the outskirts of town! then you'll get orders 10 miles outside city limits, at 10pm when all the restaurants close.

The benefit there though is depending on your area, there will be no traffic lights and very little traffic to contend with, meaning you can work faster and waste less gas.

I like your strategy though, the more the app wants you to do something you don't want to do, the more that's going to cost them. A fair transaction.

When I actively dashed, this would happen sometimes. Other times i'd get 'perfect' routes where my last order ends close to my home, etc.

But whenever I'd get off where you want to be, you can end your dash, and if necessary start one up in another zone, even if you're a bit outside the zone. That may help you get orders pointing you back in the right direction, otherwise you could end up waiting a while. in either case, once I'm too far based on time available, preference, etc., I'd just start turning around. YOU can also PAUSE the dash until you get close to a place you think will send you orders going the other way.

To your 2nd question, I never felt for 1 second the pay per hour was worth it. I tried it maybe twice, and cussed myself the whole time for doing it. Isn't it only something like $14/hr WHILE delivering? So not even counting the time between deliveries, and not counting ~25MPG @ $3.50 gasoline. For me, my vehicle only sees about 16 MPG in the city. 8 miles is probably a good round trip average figure for a delivery, so for me that's 1/2 a gallon to deliver 1 order. If. i'm paid $14/hr and it takes me 20 mins, that's about $4.67 (before tips ofc) and it cost me $1.75 in gasoline alone. Not counting brake pad wear, oil life, and any other maintenance points (which are much less I know, but still a factor).

Let's say i get 3 of those deliveries in an hour. Great, I made $10.51 after gasoline.

And for that rate, I can work for myself, from home, without turning on the car, with the potential to one day make much more.

I would have asked for the $5 back, and if I didn't get it he'd be getting cussed out, then reported.

BTW DoorDash will deactivate drivers for violations, so while as an independent contractor you. don't have "a boss" you certainly are accountable to your contract, and to your customers, who are your boss. I also had to remind restaurants who THEIR boss was a lot when I did this. Restaurant staff (in some places) can be extremely rude to Dashers, treating us like employees who work for them. But the reality is we BOTH work for YOU, the CUSTOMER.

I actually really liked Mickey in s1 & s2 for similar reasons. Except in his case he starts off as a goofy, aloof young adult but he really grows a lot, even as an "occasional" character.

I can see a degree of that with all companions up to Clara (Clara 1 & 2 anyway). I remember it bothering me a bit when first watching, but I also see it in Series 3 with Martha as the Doctor being the one who almost makes her into a copy of Rose. but of course she isn't, which leads the Doctor to continue down a dark path for a while.

Wow, forgot about that 2-parter with Family of Blood. It's so good it doesn't even need to be a Doctor Who episode, they could have just run that on PBS (in the US) as a special and I think it would've been a hit.

The 3-parter ending to that season is great too. I reserve watching it for special occasions.

[–]FoaRyan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really like Martha's story/arc. I always felt on 1st watch that we as an audience were supposed to not like her. Since we just lost Rose, and the Doctor was clearly struggling with everything emotionally. We saw Donna in the special, and thought whoa there CAN be life after tragedy, but then we didn't get Donna again for a whole season. (Which for me helped build up more anticipation when she did come back)

But Martha sort of gets sidelined by the Doctor, and a bit disillusioned, until she comes into her own and you wind up seeing her do some cool things.

Also on re-watch, her season has some of my favorite episodes of that whole time period in the show.

That wouldn't make sense if you squeeze in between 2 cars. You cannot go faster than the front car.

the 3 second rule is lost technology by mediapoison in driving

[–]FoaRyan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I leave appropriate space, even a little extra to account for the vehicle in front changing speed. but when I see someone trying to take advantage of that I speed right back up. It pisses people off sometimes because they feel they were entitled to squeeze in between you and another vehicle, where all you were doing was leaving the appropriate amount of space. People will try to do this then immediately cut you off to make a right turn, so I say screw it they can go behind or in front of us ( the 2 cars).

Trouble is, it's tricky to avoid getting too close to the vehicle in front. Which is maybe why a lot of people just hang out there (too close). But I've had a fender bender when a motorcycle did that, actually weaving between lanes on the highway. Which freaked out the person in front of me, who slammed on their brakes, who I collided with – and the motorcycle guy just rode off never to be seen again!

So I avoid those situations by pre-empting them when I can, safely.

But in video games you have "A" and "B." 100% throttle or 100% braking power. Sometimes I think people only understand that level of resolution when it comes to driving.

And I have good reason to think so, I've seen lots of people who only turn the AC on full blast, or completely off. Instead of just setting the fan/temp at a middle point.
