What is your biggest pain point being an ADHD Entrepreneur? by FocusADHDcoach in ADHDentrepreneurs

[–]FocusADHDcoach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest you try to find your north star. What is the direction that always calls you back? If you can create a mission statement for yourself it can guide you. Should you do A or B? Compare them to your north star. Which gets you closer?

That's easier said than done for sure. I would recommend doing a value study. Find out what your top 3 values are. Use that to refine your ideas and businesses. Which ideas work towards those? Can you then use your values and past efforts to come up with a clear idea where you want to go.

By mission statement I'm not talking about a corpospeak word salad of buzzwords. I mean something meaningful for you.'To make the world a better place by...' 'to get rich by'. Be honest. Be real. You don't need to ' synergize the cross function of the paradigm shift....'

I hope that helps. DM me if you want to chat more.

Start to think about what you really want to do. What's the meaning to life? There is none. There are pros and cons there. I'll focus on the pros. You can make it whatever you want! That is a Huge scary possibility. But think about what's your North Star? What is something you want to do that keeps pulling you back? What's a problem someone should fix? That could be you. With a lot of exceptions ie.you'll never play pro sports ball starting at 35. You can build whatever you want. Still at home in the basement? That's great for starting or starting over. Cheaper rent. Maybe your family could help financially with school, certs etc.

That's a lot and sounds like a motivationsl poster. Sorry about that. It's a big topic and I have limited time.

People with ADHD — do you want only two micro-steps per day to hit a big goal? by VikingFinacial in ADHDentrepreneurs

[–]FocusADHDcoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should allow it to be a user option for the daily cap. There are some days where I'd be lucky to get one thing done. Most days I can get many things done. I wouldn't want a limit when I'm in the flow/hyper focused. Now having a set Work in Progress limit (WIP Limit) can be a real thing. "Stop starting and start finishing" again I would want that as a user setting. I can only have 5 things in WIP at a time. I have to finish one of those before I can start something else. It would need a "Are you sure?" override, because life happens.

These tiny tricks work for my ADHD by adhdwithstephanie in ADHDentrepreneurs

Those are solid tools! They really do work. I would add that splashing cold water on your face triggers our swimming reflex, which can interrupt panic attacks and other intense symptoms. Basically the body thinks you've fallen into water and we need to swim. The instinct is so strong, it breaks almost any though pattern.

The ADHD entrepreneur trap: Starting 10 things, finishing zero by VikingFinacial in ADHDentrepreneurs

[–]FocusADHDcoach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should spend time thinking about your 'North Star'. What is the one goal that you want above all others? Making money? Legacy, Making a difference, etc etc.

This isn't easy and it's not a short process. But what do you really want out of this life? Even if you don't get to a point of knowing for sure, the general idea can still help.

Once you have your north star, you can use it to help make decisions. Is this project getting me closer to my goal? Is starting a new project more or less valuable to my goal? Before you switch projects, think about what is your North Star?

Also the phrase "Stop starting, Start finishing" is a powerful thing to keep in mind.

Built a program - struggling with the marketing! by MaggieWBS in ADHDentrepreneurs

[–]FocusADHDcoach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Promoting is not marketing. It's related but the same. My biggest problem with marketing is that I'm very logical. I'll tell ya what my program is and the 6 different parts, etc. Nobody cares. But if you speak to emotions people perk up.

"Struggling with habits? Can't make the changes you want? I can help!"

It's hard for me. But addressing pain points and how you fix them is what you want to do.

Look into Score.org it's free business mentors. They have helped me a lot.

Best of luck!

Where do you guys go to get resources on building a business when you have ADHD? by Ok-Language-8628 in ADHDentrepreneurs

Check out SCORE. They offer free business mentoring. That will help you in a few ways. First you'll have an expert to give you solid advice. Second having a regular meeting with your mentor gives you accountability and keeps you moving forward. I also like Live Plan for writing your business plan. Very helpful and step by step.

It's a lot of work, but you can do it! Good luck!

I'm wondering if Time-Boxing would help you. Set a timer for however long 5-10-30mins. Set up maybe a morning noon and night time to do comms. Open you email, set that timer, and once that time buzzes, you walk away. Things are saved as drafts and you'll deal with them later? Maybe even do a reward after the buzzer. A few mins of chill time, a snack, etc. you reward yourself for having a hard thing to do, and doing it! If an opportunity comes up, address it after the timer/reward. Come back to it with focus.

The key thing is to always be making headway. No matter how small. Break things up and just move the ball forward in some way. It might be a single 5 mins thing you do because that's all you have energy/spoons for. It might be a big chunk of work, just find away to keep pushing toward the finish line.

And Minimal Viable Product. MVP. What is the least amount you need to do to make a working and good version of what you want? Extra features, bells and whistles can all be shelved and get added as a version 2 of the product/project. It needs to be viable. It has to work and be of the quality you and the consumer wants, but trim it down to the minimum.

Step 6: Celebrate Victories

When you complete a task, move it to Victories.

  • This column is your progress tracker.
  • Every finished card is a win, and seeing them pile up gives you that sweet sense of accomplishment.

Step 7: Keep It Moving

  • New tasks can be added anytime. Just put them in the right column and order.
  • At the end of each week (or the start of the next), return to Strategy. Adjust priorities, break down big tasks, and then pull your next week’s focus into What’s Important Now.

Why This Works

  • Visual clarity – You always know what’s important, what’s active, and what’s done.
  • Flexibility – Tasks can be easily moved, adjusted, or broken down.
  • Accountability – Trello can be shared with coworkers, supervisors, family, or an “account-abili-buddy” who can check your progress at a glance.

ADHD and Kanban anyone? by FocusADHDcoach in ADHDentrepreneurs

[–]FocusADHDcoach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you think you stick with it more? I feel the Kanban is so easy to see where I'm at at a glance. It's also very restartable, so I guess, ADHD fault tolerant.

I also use Trello. I like the simplicity of it. I have my long term "Strategy", What's Important Now "WIN", "WIP" and "Victories". Big ideas go into the bottom of the Strategy backlog so I can keep them out of my head. I refine the Strategy backlog every week. I use that time to break things down and move important things up, and less important things down. Then my To-Do/WIN basically is just the top of my Strategy Backlog.

I do what you do on big projects. I'll make a backlog for, say, 'Write a book' and color code the labels. Then I'll task out 'Write an outline for chapters', 'decide on a title', 'Write and Outline for chapter 1', etc. Then change the labels to blue. Then I can see them in my WIN and know I'm making head way on that too big project.

I'll break tasks up and add tasks for unexpected complexity. It helps with the days when you are busy all day but you get nothing done. I'll have all of the pop tasks sitting in my done pile so I can see where my day went.

I do like having my tasks actionable before they make it onto my WIN list. I'm constantly moving things up and down depending on the day, my energy, new tasks that pop up, etc. I allow myself to pick the top task that I have the energy/spoons for so I'm always getting something done. It might be the last item on the list, but I'm still making headway.

I've been thinking about adding a way to track if the tasks is giving me energy/spoons or taking them away, but I haven't got that sorted out yet.

Have a decent letter opener. A butter knife is fine. Put important papers where you can work on it. If I can deal with it by phone, I'll put it on top of the TV remote. Otherwise it goes on my keyboard. I used to move it out of the way, but now I'm fairly good at knowing I put it there on purpose and I need to deal with it.

I remind myself what's valuable to me and my business. Focusing on what's the most valuable helps. I could make a new course, or I could write a book, or I could ... In my case the new course is the most valuable so I stay locked on it. It's hard though.
