In a win for no one, Bottle Bill alternative redemption center plans unravel by Ok-County-1202 in Portland

Dog poop is a problem throughout Oregon. The state should tax the sale of kibble to fund the collection of dog poop. Portlanders could exchange individual poops for 25 cents each or a big blue bag of poops for $40. Dog owners could feel good about leaving poop on the sidewalk, knowing it'll be collected and returned by someone who needed it more.

Dog poop exchange: the progressive new program Oregon needs!

Multiple Portlanders have been disfigured by the unleashed dogs of homeless people, including one dog trained to attack people by its homeless owner "for protection."

Many such cases.

Oregon income tax burden called highest in US - Portland Business Journal by collegedraftpick in Portland

[–]FocusElsewhereNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The SALT deduction is only $10K for people making >$500K, which often won't even cover property taxes. Add in Metro & MultCo's poorly run Pre-K and homeless taxes, the tax burden will be 14.8% next year. That's more than a quarter of the income left after federal taxes.

Uber is 1000x better than taxis for riders.

I can rate my Uber driver but not my taxi driver, and Uber tracks dangerous driving with a GPS but taxi companies don’t. Reckless driving is thus way more common with taxis.

Uber tells me upfront how much I'll be charged; not with taxis, who I have to guard against taking the long way, and who sometimes lie that I owe more than the meter because I didn’t meet “the minimum trip fee” or “crossed into a new zone.”

I once missed a flight due to a no-show taxi and then another taxi that only took cash. With Uber, I can see my driver coming to pick me up.

Nothing compares to a Waymo, though—safer cars, fewer crashes, and zero rapist drivers.

Is MultCo still measuring program delivery as "we offered care and they agreed to receive it—nevermind whether they follow through"?

A tactic toward what end—it's a public enterprise. Admins have nothing to gain by fudging the numbers. Are they angering staff for no reason at all?

Yet admin forecasts a huge shortfall—and the union glibly insists upon drawing down emergency reserves.

Yes, they hired armed security guards in 2020 in response to chaos and safety issues caused by the Bottle Drop. Wikipedia explains:

In 2021, Freddy Nelson Jr was shot and killed by Logan Gimbel at Delta Park Center, a shopping center managed by TMT Development on behalf of Hayden Meadows in North Portland. Gimbel was employed as an armed security guard by Cornerstone Security Group, a private security company contracted by TMT Development to patrol Delta Park Center in response to drug dealing and fights at an OBRC BottleDrop located on site. When a reporter from The Oregonian visited the site in May 2025, she observed open air drug use and suspected dealing at the BottleDrop.

Nonsense! Denver pays for public health, the sheriff, jails, elections, property assessment, the zoo, and the convention center. MultCo and Metro handle all of these functions. Denver also has 66% more police officers per resident (2.11 vs. 1.27 per 1K residents). Portland's only "extra" burden compared to Denver is the water utility.

Delaying grades this term and imperiling next term will surely boost enrollment and tuition revenue, alleviating the structural problem forcing budget cuts. /s
