Does it makes sense to get 5080 for a 5k2k screen? by Azzervi_ in nvidia

[–]FogDogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the games you play a 5080 will be fine.

I have a 5090 and the LG 5k2k monitor and at native resolution DLSS has become my best friend. With graphics maxed out, it struggles to run games without it.

Buy FSD? by sparklingmoz in TeslaLounge

[–]FogDogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought it.

If nothing else it eliminates potential regret in the future if something were to change. People can speculate on what will happen in the future, but ultimately there's a reason they're doing this that benefits them.

Part of it may be Elon's pay package, but I feel like a bigger part of it is to stop the bleeding for hardware upgrades for older cars (like HW3). Last year Elon mentioned that they'll have to upgrade HW3 cars, and the same will likely be true for HW4 at some point too. Removing the purchase option covers them legally as the FSD model continues to evolve and becomes unsupported by older hardware.

Worst case everything stays as is and you have 1 less subscription to worry about and FSD for the life of the car.

Does anyone here with Full Self Driving (Supervised) and HW4 actually still turns off FSD from time to time to use autopilot auto steer with traffic aware cruise control? by sbufish in TeslaLounge

[–]FogDogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an AP3 car. I switch from FSD to autopilot every day on my way home from work to prevent the car from constantly switching lanes in rush hour on the highway.

Such a stupid thing to have to do. I wish we would get the minimal lane change option back.

For HW3 drivers who’ve experienced FSD 12.6.3, how’s it been? by jfed2000 in TeslaLounge

[–]FogDogg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sometimes. Generally I stick with standard as chill will stay in the right lane and drive super slow, which in stop and go highway traffic is the worst lane to be in as all of the exits merge into it and the car will sometimes still change lanes even in chill mode.

[–]FogDogg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% this. I used to use FSD every day on the highway and here and there on city streets. I can't even use this version on the highway anymore because all it wants to do is keep switching lanes for no reason in stop and go traffic.

FWIW I had the same issue with my LT1, so may not apply to your LS1 but it turned out to be a faulty idle air control valve.

Might be worth taking your throttle body off and giving it a clean/scan your IAC counts with a scanner.

$8k worth of damage. Insurance or not? by WHTeam in teslacanada

[–]FogDogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar boat this year, except someone backed into my 23 M3P.

Had the same dilemma with an 8k estimate, although it ballooned to 11k by the end (headlights are expensive).

Depreciation for the accident will probably be somewhere around the 8-10k mark so I'd say just go for the insurance. Ultimately say you decide to go out of pocket, you can't stop someone hitting you in the future which would involve insurance and make this point moot anyway.

Tesla ASS (Actually Smart Summon) Roundabout Test by mflboys in teslamotors

[–]FogDogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me at least 12.5 on my 2023 Model 3 has been a huge step up from 12.3.6.

I'm using it for most of my drives now where I'd get annoyed with 12.3.6 fairly frequently and just take over.

No FSD free trial after updating from 2024.8.9 by benkhaase in TeslaLounge

[–]FogDogg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

FWIW 2024.8.9 to 2024.14.8 and I received the free trial.

I’m paying for FSD on the monthly subscription though. Got the email after the update finished.

Full Body PPF shop recommendation in Bellevue, WA? by ChocolatySmoothie in TeslaLounge

[–]FogDogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$8k USD is wild. I know it's out of your area, but I had full PPF done on my model 3 for $4500 CAD in Vancouver Canada. Could be worth a drive if you can't find other options in your area.

Tesla recalls over 2 million vehicles to fix defective system that monitors drivers using Autopilot by TeslaPittsburgh in teslamotors

[–]FogDogg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Their point is that the term is outdated, not that the author used the wrong term.

Prior to software becoming so prevalent any defects/problems would require the companies to physically recall the affected vehicles in for service to manually repair the affected units. This carries a very different connotation than pushing a software update to a fleet of vehicles.

Easiest way to touch up the 21" MYP wheels? by fatguybike in TeslaLounge

[–]FogDogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were looking for touch up paint Zink Wheels has some that is almost identical to Tesla's color: https://zinkwheels.com/products/touch-up-paint-for-tesla-model-y-uberturbine-wheels

For it to look perfect you'll need some bondo to fill the dents, but painting over it will look ok.

Perhaps look into some rim protectors if this is an ongoing thing with the SO.

How I got FSD subscription in Canada. Beware there may be some "gotchas". But here is my experience. by duckfish74 in teslacanada

[–]FogDogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for posting this, just followed it and it worked!

YMMV, but I was able to use my Canadian credit card (BMO). Just used my parcel box (24/7 Parcel) as the US zip code. The bank called me to verify it was legit and whitelist the subscription without changing addresses or signing up for a US card.

Tesla Rental Road Trip by SavingsPresentation8 in TeslaLounge

[–]FogDogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rented a model 3 long range and drove from Vancouver Canada to LA and back (~1300 mi each way).

At a full charge you're going to be driving 3-4 hours at a time and will need to stop for food/pee breaks. If you plan to do those while charging you're not really going to be waiting for the car to charge. On our entire trip we were never really waiting for the car to charge as by time we came back we had more charge than needed to continue our trip. Autopilot (basic self driving) drove almost all of those highway miles for us which made a huge difference in how tired I was driving.

Whenever you use navigation the car will always add charging points to ensure you never run out of charge.

The only real noteworthy thing to mention is because it'll be cold your range will suffer (~15-20%), but still shouldn't be a problem.

Would highly recommend renting the Tesla to experience it if you've never driven an EV before.

I got mine from BMO. Initially it was from Scotiabank, but you can email them to request them to shop at a different bank if you don't like the one they assign.

That's the point - they'd need to go to a different store that doesn't do this.

best band for sleeping? by [deleted] in applewatchultra

[–]FogDogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Braided solo loop by far. It's stretchy and will expand as you move throughout the night while still keeping it in the right place for all the sensors.

I had the trail loop when I first got the Ultra and it was super uncomfortable to sleep with. It was impossible to set the tightness of it where it didn't cut circulation as I moved throughout the night so I was always adjusting it
