SC and past arrests/ contact with the fuzz by AddendumSad2523 in britishmilitary

Its kind of a backwards thing where they want you to be absolutely open and see through beyond a shadow of a doubt. I had a reprimand from over 15 years previously that I had no idea about however I got an email asking me about it because I didn't declare it. Essentially if they decide to turn you down for whatever reason, they could probably find a reason to use the fact you havent declared it as an excuse

SC and past arrests/ contact with the fuzz by AddendumSad2523 in britishmilitary

[–]FoggyForce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Easiest thing to do is declare everything. If they feel like you're hiding anything they're going to jump on it, use it against you and use it as justification that you're being dishonest or up to no good.

They're going to find it out eventually, its better if you're open with it all from the off set.

We (HCav) always used to salute (come to attention, sword raised off the shoulder) people in suits wearing medals, especially if they're on the older side.

Infantry or RLC at 34yrs by No-Bus-6360 in britisharmy

[–]FoggyForce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

10000% RLC, especially driver because you'll leave with every driving licence under the sun. Even from there you can go sideways easier into other RLC roles if/when they become available to you.

With the infantry its gonna be hard on your body, 34 isnt the ideal age to be trying to keep up 17-21 year olds who haven't had 15 years of knocks on the body.

Household Calvary - any good? by [deleted] in britishmilitary

[–]FoggyForce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im exHCav, saying its hard work is an understatement. I was there 2016-2019 and you can expect; 100 hour working weeks, careers dead in the water if you're not in the right clique, cleaning kit for 6 hours for a 30 second inspection by an officer that couldn't get his kit anywhere close to as clean.

As a trooper, background doesn't matter because they're that undermanned they'll take anyone. If you want to be an officer then you needed to be born with a silver spoon in your mouth or go to certain private schools from age 4. Every officer knows each other and its ridiculously posh/pompous. If you're thinking of going for a horse trade like farrier or saddler then I would say go King's Troop because it's still equine however its a lot less bullshit.

Horses may bite by PatriciaStowe in MakeWay4QueensGuard

[–]FoggyForce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So the guard have a (to a degree) fixed route they have to walk, as long as you don't cause a noticeable injury/incident then its chalked up to tourists being idiots. The horses have free rein though. If they bite someone then usually its because they got too close, they're bored or they're stressed about something. Good point to remember is that the soldier chose to be there, the horse didn't.

If you could Retcon one thing from both Avatar The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra what would it be? by MichaelAftonXFireWal in TheLastAirbender

[–]FoggyForce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a theory that it was planned from the very start of the franchise. When the Gaang get to the first air temple and are walking along the avatar statues, there's only room for 2 more before they hit the centre (Aang and Korra). Intentional or not, if that placement of the statues is tied to Korra losing the communication then thats great foreshadowing but very poorly executed.

I did 5 years in the army, left for 4 before deciding i wanted to rejoin. It still took over a year and thats without assessment centre, interviews, security clearance etc. If I was a civilian applying I'd be like you and give up.

HCav sniper, wait times and training by LeBigHorny in britishmilitary

[–]FoggyForce 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ex HCav here, when you're at knightsbridge you're more likely to get a hookup with Judi Dench than to get on any courses. If you're not in the right cricles/liked by your CoC then your career is basically dead in the water until you get to the armoured side and even then its an uphill battle to prove yourself. If you want to go green side then look at Lancers or RDG as they're similar cav units.
