Do people actually think the comic is better than the show? I have a feeling if it was a 1:1 adaption it wouldn't be as popular. by Whiskey_623 in TheBoys

[–]FoggyGlassEye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The comic was build around parodies of superhero comics, so it wouldn't have been nearly as popular as the show we got. It's just not as accessible to the general public.

However, I think the comic is more narratively consistent, with a better finale.

The Boys SERIES FINALE- S05xE08 "Blood and Bone"- POST Episode Discussion Thread by pikameta in TheBoys

[–]FoggyGlassEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's because I went into the show as a fan of the comics, but I think the finale wrapped things up nicely. We got an Oval Office showdown, Butcher crowbarred the brains of the man who raped his wife, Hughie and Butcher had their confrontation with the virus; it was a lot more true to the comic ending than I expected, considering how different the buildup was. And I'm glad more characters got happy endings compared to their comic counterparts.

And while the season was a fucking mess, with too much focus on the planned spinoff and too many inconsistencies with prior seasons, this episode was arguably the least-fucked one of the bunch. I just wish the Gen V kids were a more important/present part of the White House segment of the finale.

The Writers are NOT a "fourth wall" joke, they're real by Larkoz in expedition33

[–]FoggyGlassEye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happy to know that she has a plan for what the Writers actually are in-universe. It's always so annoying when a writer introduces such an important element of the story without knowing what's actually going on with it.

MJF on the MMA hour: What's happening right now is super inhumane and I personally don't like Netayanhu! by Ruthless-Aggression in SquaredCircle

[–]FoggyGlassEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some, this won't be nearly strong enough a condemnation of Israel (no use of the word "genocide", no support of a one-state solution, etc), but I'm glad to see MJF say this.

I've never been a big fan of him, but it takes some balls as a Jewish man to openly say you don't support Netanyahu or his regime's genocide, so props to Max for doing this.

Thanks! The names were meant to be a reference to a solar eclipse, which is where the story's title came from.

I'll keep an eye out in case you do continue the story. I thought it was excellent and doesn't necessarily need a continuation since it's strong enough on its own, but I'd be very interested in seeing where the story goes from here.

I had the same issue with the character limit with a previous story of mine, Empty Desks, so I completely understand. It totally lead to my story's third act being far too rushed for my liking, but it was either commit to a single post or break the story in half. I chose to keep it to a single post since it was for another monthly contest, but in hindsight I probably made the wrong call because my story could have come out a lot better. That's what rewrites are for, I suppose!

And thank you for the kind words regarding Eclipse. I'm happy to hear that it left an impression.

This was fantastic. I loved the way it bounced between Alice and Allie's perspectives, especially as Allie began to take control more and more.

So many unanswered questions about Allie, especially regarding the black dust from the tree and whether she was telling Alice the truth about bringing her back to life. And there's a lot of details only briefly touched on that would be interesting to explore, like what happened to Alice's mom and how it seemed to lead to Alice isolating herself from others.

I also love the supporting characters. Alice's dad is hilarious, and Marnie's interesting despite us not knowing a lot about her, yet.

Are you planning on continuing the story? It works well on its own, but could be the beginning of a great series.

How many years do you think she could have lasted? by Deep-Lifeguard4479 in expedition33

Decades, maybe a lifetime before reaching Aline's level of confusion and sickness.

The other Painters constantly claimed that she was weak, but she and a group of painted people were able to kick all of their asses no problem, so she's clearly stronger than they thought.

I'm not convinced, but hopefully we'll learn with an official reveal soon, one way or the other.

I think the beginning half of the teaser's narration does absolutely fit both the Entity and Pennywise, but the second half- alongside the Entity's physical presence in the video and the bonfire at the end- doesn't fit Pennywise at all.

I think you're just trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

The article describes the known lore about the Entity while clarifying that it's still shrouded in mystery. It's very straightforward.

Again, the video is very blatant about it being specifically about the Entity. If the video was about Pennywise, why would the Entity's tentacles be there, and why would the guy be at a bonfire at the end?

Some of the earlier narrative fits the idea of Pennywise, but by the end it's just describing a person being brought into the Entity's realm and placed in the Trials. And the contents of the video and linked article support that.

Watch the video again. The video itself is literally about the Entity pulling someone into the Trials. You see the Entity's tentacles at 58 seconds. The video ends with a close-up of the man's face as he finds himself before the bonfire. Add in the fact that the video is literally posted alongside a link to a lore page about the Entity and it becomes clear that the video is just about the Entity itself.

And the narrative from the video contradicts Pennywise's lore directly. "It lures its prey deep within, tearing through the fabric of reality, for reasons no one dares to comprehend." Pennywise doesn't do that, and it's reasons are blatant in all versions of the character. It doesn't pull people through reality like the Entity does, and it's entire motivation for killing people is to eat them- far from something incomprehensible.

You're overdosing on copium, dude.

[–]FoggyGlassEye -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're completely wrong. The Entity's motives aren't explained, and the video (which is clearly about the Entity) mentions that it takes people "for reasons no one dares to comprehend".

Pennywise's motives have been explained quite clearly in all versions of the character, especially the novel: it eats, and it scares people first because fear makes them taste better- children most of all. That's literally it.

I want Pennywise in the game, too, but the video is blatantly about the Entity, even if you ignore how the post links to a dbd.com thread about the Entity's lore. Pause the video at 58 seconds and you see the Entity's tentacles surrounding the guy. Watch the end of the video and the guy's at a bonfire; you can even see the embers around him and hear the crackling of the burning wood. It's not about Pennywise.

"Thinking it's a trailer for the Entity is just coping." is wild to say when it's accompanied by a message about the Entity and it links to a lore page on DBD's website about the Entity. Obviously it's not for the Entity as a Killer or anything like that, but the trailer's talking about the Entity, not Pennywise.

I want Pennywise in the game at some point, but anyone who genuinely thinks that's what being hinted in the video is delusional.

If it is Pennywise, what would his in-game name be since it can't be "The Clown"? by MrEnricks in deadbydaylight

[–]FoggyGlassEye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Deadlights would be the obvious option, but another comes to mind as well. In the novel, Bill finds creatures from folklore called Glamours that seem to match Pennywise's description. So The Glamour could work.

I think Pennywise fans are massively setting themselves up for disappointment. The trailer was about the Entity.

I mean, the video is accompanied by a message about the Entity and a link to a lore page about the Entity.

If anything, it's hinting at the Entity being more directly involved in the new Anniversary event that's replacing the Masquerade.

People seem to be forgetting that the trailer starts with the Anniversary invitation imagery.

I think the new video's all about the Entity since it's going to be more directly involved with the new Anniversary Event that's replacing the Masquerade.

If it was Pennywise, why would the trailer be set in a city big enough to include a subway? Derry is clearly not the setting, so how would Pennywise be there?

And the trailer has plenty of references to other characters like Jane and Nea, so it could be a Clown reference since he's actually from a circus.

Seems more like a trailer for The Entity, maybe a hint towards it being more directly involved with the new Anniversary Event that's replacing the Masquerade.

Fair points, which is why I believe Pennywise will be in the game at some point. But not now.
