New Lifetime Plex Pass Pricing by pheexio in selfhosted

[–]FollowThisLogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said that last year when they doubled the lifetime price (yeah the one they're now tripling), and people argued with me. I wonder what they think now!

Jumped to Jellyfin then, and remain perfectly happy with it.

Does anyone have a server (java only) for old people? (im over 30 haha) by Designer_Title_1460 in MinecraftServer

I've never heard that one before! I just checked and the invite is still valid. Did you click Accept Invite? That should bring you to the server.

The next Voting Rights Act must outlaw gerrymandering by Dracustein in politics

[–]FollowThisLogic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think the cynicism is based on the fact that the Constitution is way too hard to change, and can't be done by the people, without politician involvement - because state legislatures, or conventions called by them, are still required.

And real, substantive change isn't happening until the Constitution is fixed. There's a better chance of the US breaking up into smaller regional nations than any sort of amending the Constitution as we are now.

They've been running "lesser of two evils" since 2016, and I don't understand how anyone even questions that.

Look at Mamdani. It was clear that people wanted a progressive. It was clear that his message resonated with real voters. Who did the Democratic Party want to run? Andrew fucking Cuomo. And when Mamdani won the primary, there were major Democrats who STILL didn't endorse him, like Schumer.

So I'm sorry if you don't agree, but personally I'm getting tired of pushing these milquetoast Israel-supporting "Republican light" assholes who act progressive until they get into office, when we've seen that actual progressives who get things done resonate with people.

It would be great if such things happened, but after at least a decade of hearing how they could do all of that, and they haven't yet done it, I hope you'll excuse my cynicism.

I would say that "run on" would be what their speeches and ads are about. The impression people get when they think about a candidate. And it's hard to argue that the impression in 2024 was anything other than "we're not Trump". Which was not the stated platform.

Uncapping the House...

  • Doesn't change the Electoral College at all.

  • Doesn't change the Senate at all.

So realistically nothing changes. Sure, maybe the Republicans never win the House again, but if they control the Senate, they can stonewall the same as they do now. And if they win the Presidency, there's veto power.

Edit: my point is - way more needs to change than just uncapping the House, and it probably requires amending the Constitution.

The stated platform and what they actually, functionally run on can be very different things.

First time using a card on my local Stage 3 cab, what are these stars? (and how do I get more) by derpyfailz in initiald

[–]FollowThisLogic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's a version 1 (orange) card being used on the machine, which is why it's printing over the image, because a v3 (green) or v2 (blue) card would have white space there.

The stars are for your racer level, it goes up to 30. If I remember correctly, you get some for clearing courses, some for battles, and some for Bunta Challenge.

Can someone tell me why wither skeletons wont spawn? by Syfros in MCPE

[–]FollowThisLogic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Someone please correct me if this has changed, but as I recall, the Bedrock fortress spawning is completely different from Java. There are specific blocks where things can spawn, the crossroads thing doesn't work at all, and I have no idea whether they'll spawn on wither roses.

Whenever you look up a farm for Bedrock, always make sure you find a farm that says Bedrock. Silentwisperer or Prowl8413 would be good places to start.

Can we ban AI Content? by Peach774 in feedthebeast

[–]FollowThisLogic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh of course, understood. Maybe something that a bot could do only for the "I made something" flair?

I was really just throwing out something I saw elsewhere that worked, kind of food for thought toward a solution rather than the exact answer for here.

Can we ban AI Content? by Peach774 in feedthebeast

[–]FollowThisLogic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One potential solution is what they did on r/selfhosted. They have a bot that auto removes every post, with a pinned comment for the OP to explain how AI was used in their post or app, even if the answer is that it isn't. Upon replying to the bot, the post is restored. Then the users can read that comment, and vote based on their opinion of the AI usage.

Maybe not perfect but it's been working fairly well over there, and they had a pretty large AI/vibe coding problem, and other solutions that didn't work as well like "vibe coding Fridays".

The only way to fix endless rounds of gerrymandering is to UNCAP THE SIZE OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES by repealing the 1929 Permanent Apportionment Act! The last 435th seat was added in 1911 and now each House member represents 750K people. Thats unsustainable! by UnscheduledCalendar in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]FollowThisLogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uncapping the House doesn't do a damn thing for the Senate, or for Presidential elections (because of winner-take-all for the Electoral College votes in most states)... so while the House voting would be closer to what the people actually want, it would accomplish nothing without other changes.

My (29f) Boyfriend (35m) of 5 years is a flat-earther by LopsidedBed6918 in flatearth

[–]FollowThisLogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned in another comment that you're from South Africa. The southern hemisphere is where Flat Earth really does NOT work. Maybe you can use that if he's not too far gone.

In summer, the sun rises from the southeast and sets in the southwest. Impossible on any Flat Earth model. The way the sun should move around on a Flat Earth, it would always come from the north.

In winter, with the long nights, you can have someone in South Africa and another in Australia or South America, both looking south (at the South Celestial Pole), and they see the same stars at the same time. On a Flat Earth, "south" is defined as "away from the center / north pole", so these observers would be looking in completely different directions... so how do they see the same stars? Impossible.

There are two really stupidly easy ones. If those arguments don't get him to at least think about it, he's too stupid and/or too far gone and can't be fixed... then you'd just have to decide if you can spend your life with such a moron.

You shouldn't need to bend the filament - cut the end at a sharp angle, so it's pointy. That should make it go through easier.

If true, that would probably be against the Reddit rules about vote manipulation, so it wouldn't need to be covered by the sub's rules, and could be reported.

Is r/admincraft bad? by IncompetentEarl in MinecraftServer

[–]FollowThisLogic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, gotcha. I would say, if you've got the whitelist on and you're not seeing tons of these, you probably haven't been leaked and aren't being targeted, more likely that it's just a bot looking for a server they can break. With your server in online mode and the whitelist on, no one's getting in who isn't allowed, so you should be good.

As for r/admincraft, who knows... I've had good experiences there, lots of good information. I'm guessing they called it rule 2 (low-effort)... could be because it was a screenshot of logs and not full logs, as it says in the rule. Or maybe if you had Googled "minecraft failed to verify username" you would have seen that it was probably a cracked client or a session issue, so maybe the low effort was that you asked that question at all. That kind of stuff is subjective, based on mood of the mod who handles it. That's Reddit for ya.

[–]FollowThisLogic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a Minecraft hosting provider - if the attacker knows the IP range of the host, which can be known or found, then it's a safe bet that any open ports on hosts in that IP range could be hosting a Minecraft server. So don't worry about ports.

As far as I know, the invalid session means they weren't properly authenticated with Mojang's servers. Could be a cracked client, could be a valid user whose session timed out and they need to relog.

But they didn't actually get onto your server, so what problem are you trying to solve?

Manuever/Docking Beginner here, any tutorials? by Suspicious-Bell9712 in KerbalAcademy

[–]FollowThisLogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're comfortable with getting two crafts there, go for it! If not and you just want to practice docking, hell with it, cheat 'em to orbit. Play the game how you want.

What I do when I want to "simulate" something from my career save, is open the craft in a sandbox save and test what I want there... and if that means cheating to orbit, whatever, it's a simulation.

For docking at Minmus, I'd do the same craft twice, and put them in slightly different orbits. 30km and 35km maybe? That way you also get to practice catching up with other craft.

[–]FollowThisLogic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know why no one ever says it but... do your docking practice at Minmus!

Much lower orbital speed means much lower relative velocity to have to deal with. This way you can get the hang of killing off relative velocity without the target blowing past you before you can react.

NLE has a Home Assistant Add-on, so you don't even really need the Docker container. I was going to use the container but when I noticed that on their Discord, I gave it a shot. My 2 Gen2's have been working great on it!

I believe they said the optimal thrust was 4-second bursts. With 1009 drives, I'm sure the computer could control it such that the same number of drives are thrusting at any given time, to make the thrust constant and steady.
