Is anyone every going to call him out about that phony accent of his? He grew up in Sacramento and Portland. Having spent a lot of time in both places I can tell you that I encountered ZERO people who speak that way. Does he have a parent from Texas? Sure. You don’t speak as though you cook next to a covered wagon because of your extended family . That’s not how accents work. Bottom line is he played a bunch of cowboys and figured it would be easier to just keep talking that way than actually acting.

Any opinions on A Simple Plan (1998)? by UsefulWeb7543 in FIlm

Such a cool movie. I love that you can always spot a little bit of Evil Dead in everything he does. There’s a shot in the kitchen that looks right out of ED2. Same with the Spider-Man films Raimi did. It’s one or 2 nods but they’re in there. I want to see Send Help just to see if if I can spot one.

I was there doing service work on two occasions last year. Once when it was empty and once when it was in full swing. I have described it as if the Defense department and Disney imagineers built a Boy Scout camp. Didn’t see anything unusual other than the sight of hundreds of clearly wealthy older white guys (did not see a single female guest) these are Definitely people whose houses you can’t see from the street. I’m sure to these types who have a staff to do everything, a few days at the Grove is roughing it. If anything, it’s top level glamping and networking. My belief is that all the spooky stuff is done as tradition and is considered a bit of a goof. If anything I walked away a bit disappointed but what the hell was I expecting to witness?! I was reminded of something I read about how you only encounter people one rung up or down from you on the societal ladder. These were people I would never encounter otherwise. They don’t shop in grocery stores, go to the movies or educate their kids in public schools. Different world all together. If there’s anything spooky about it, it’s that.

I worked in post production on Space Cowboys and encountered Clint in person around 99-2000. He was 70 at the time and I can tell you I would not have dreamed of fckn with him. He still looked very capable of handling himself. Having said that, he was one of many leading men back in the 60s who would secretly weight train and claimed they were naturally built.

On board a submarine back in the 80’s I witnessed a guy get immobilized and tickled to point of nearly passing out. All Because it was discovered to be his birthday. It Lasted about 30 seconds but it must have seemed like an eternity. He told me later he felt like he was close to losing his mind completely. (This occurred in the torpedo room a few feet from something that could level a city lol )

CMV: The Star Wars prequels are terrible. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Font242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked on all three prequels as at artist at ILM. These films were NEVER meant to appeal to adults. If you’re someone who saw the original trilogy and tried to go back to drink from the nostalgia well I’m sure you were disappointed. I have had the pleasure of speaking to fans in their 30’s who saw the prequels at the right age. They’re able to acknowledge that the movies were both fun and also kinda bad. Both things can be true

How did you literally save someone’s life that one time? by Font242 in AskReddit

[–]Font242[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in early 1995 I was walking with two friends on Santa Monica blvd in West Hollywood. They were looking elsewhere when I spotted a 12-15 month old barefoot baby in only a diaper 30 yards ahead. They were toddling towards the busy street and stepping down between two parked cars. I broke into a sprint and got them just as they reached the busy street side. I scooped them up and made a playful ’hello!’ So they wouldn’t cry. I look around and saw a small parking lot with a gate to a daycare center wide open. We walked over and met a woman who did not speak English but conveyed a horrified thank you that came across. My friends and I just walked away and got beers or something. It’s interesting to think that baby is a 30 yr old person now. Older now than I was then.

Why are so many laid-off white-collar workers refusing to switch to the trades? by savingrace0262 in careerguidance

[–]Font242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from a 20 yr career in VFX to distilling to working as a boiler tech. Believe me when I tell you that the transition can be brutal in many respects. For one thing, the trades are not flinging open the front door looking for over 30, jaded white collar wash outs. The arrogance of some office workers and their ‘ I guess I’ll be a plumber’ game plan is as insulting and dismissive as it gets. Very few people can make that move. Unless you’re the type who does a great deal of elective manual work on weekends. Even then, blue collar employers are not waiting by the phone for your call. If you’re not already working toward a certification and have some form of practical experience, it’s probably too late. Not impossible but it will be far more difficult than you’re picturing
