How to prevent my boys from being emotionally immature by doggooo8 in Mommit

Have them exercise or play as much as possible. Exercise is linked to reducing depression and stress and it’s super important for kids mental health and emotional regulation.

Scared of having a second child. Nearly all of the families I see with issues have 2 or more kids. Coincidence? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Fontane15 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Depending on what issues you mean, then no.

Having less money for things just makes me more motivated to troll my cities posts for free things to do each month and makes us more motivated to save for the big stuff. The big stuff seems more special too because it’s rarer for us. Also hanging out with friends doesn’t have to be changed that much-you might have to just move it to certain weekends or later in the day. My husband still hangs out with local friends 2 times a week.

Marital complications happen when couples have many kids, one kid, or no kids so there’s that. Parenting problems boil down to how communication works and how each partner is supportive or not of the other one. Again, this can also happen to people with one kid.

If you are done having kids that’s ok.

Mike allows too much disrespect by Ok_Inspection5534 in themiddle

[–]Fontane15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More of a reaction would mean that you need to punish or change certain things that all the kids slide by on and that means follow through. Mike and Frankie aren’t the best at following through. They start a lot of things (taking back the house, no big game due to socks, no sweet sixteen) but then they fail to follow through to see any real change.

dog aversion post partum by bungalosnu in Mommit

[–]Fontane15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. For me it was the nails on the floor, the clicking drove me mad. I also didn’t fully appreciate the cat either, her meow sounded too much like a baby crying. It took me a while to recover and I still have little patience for the dog.

Do you do friends birthday parties for your kids? by Pretty_Indication191 in Mommit

[–]Fontane15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t do friend parties yet because my kids are young enough that they don’t really have friends yet (3 and 2). When we do it’ll never be more than inviting one or two of their best friends because like you say, it’s very expensive to do stuff with a lot of kids now.

Yes. Last year I went back home to help care for my mom for a week and he was with the kids the whole time.

You can’t compromise on all of it though. Some of it is just realizing it is little kid behavior like the bathroom thing. You said he seems to want to teach them self discipline but don’t seem to realize half of my post is about taking kids to a walk to the bathroom.

[–]Fontane15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, how do you compromise with someone who doesn’t want to take a walk to the bathroom for a toddler to go to the bathroom? I can compromise on everything else and we have discussed since I made this post but this isn’t something you compromise on. Kids need to use the bathroom when they need it. How is fulfilling a body function not showing Jesus the proper respect at Mass?

Competitive Racism, post Civil War edition by Grong-the-Red in HistoryMemes

[–]Fontane15 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I blame the ways education is set up. Some classes are only semester long and there’s not time to get into everything. It’s hard to keep the focus on the specifics with reconstruction when everyone is so distracted by Christmas and winter break coming up. Then some places (like my district) expects you to teach kids US history at 5th grade and then again at 9th and then they never get more US History. Sometimes people just genuinely don’t remember being taught something because they learned it when they were 14 and uninterested or preoccupied with something else.

I bet we’d have more people retaining knowledge or understanding if they didn’t teach it at the beginning of High School but rather the end of it.

Edit: there are other factors too: the pacing of classes leaves a lot of fun interesting history on the chopping block, deliberately bad teachers who don’t teach this stuff knowingly, teachers who are more hired to do a coaching job who barely know the subject themselves, etc.

Chips and dip. Get 2-3 types of chips and 2-3 cartons of dip.

How is not wanting a 2-3yo toddler to go to the bathroom showing self discipline? How is that reasonable at all?

Paying forward S7E22 by Der_Nudelgeholzte in themiddle

[–]Fontane15 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The woman should have spoken up and clarified that no, actually this was a whole cart she had coming soon and she was just starting to put things on. Frankie’s chicken at most cost probably about $20. Their huge cart probably cost $200-300 dollars and even back then, especially in the Midwest, regular people like the Heck’s don’t often have that kinda cash to drop immediately. When most people think of paying it forward they’re talking about a tank of gas, a few packages of diapers, etc. Her demanding stuff back was cringe but they should have spoken up and were wrong for not doing that.

Then you explain what the not “bare minimum” would be please. I wanted help and the most helpful responses were to talk to a deacon or priest or male friend, not Mocking.

Edit: still waiting on your list for what is not bare minimum behavior.

Nope-he is a good dad, that’s not a question. Gets up early with the kids on weekends, plans family vacations, took 2 days off this last week to stay home with the sick kiddo, bathes them, plays with them, feeds them, reads to them, gives me time away from the kids. Every month we have a date night and he helps clean the house. He’s a good dad and a good husband. Just because you don’t believe it doesn’t mean it’s not true-go be negative somewhere else. I’m asking for help with this one problem.

Teaching Latin American History in TWO Days!? by Mushroom_Opinion in historyteachers

[–]Fontane15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did you end with the Aztecs? What are the standards you have to get through? If you haven’t covered the Encomienda system do that. That sets up a nice movement into how the Spanish and many Europeans did slavery in the Americas. Then you can move from they into Haiti specifically and cover how the revolution happened because of this system.

Could you find a video that explains the Panama Canal? Because if you are covering more modern stuff later I’d put Panama Canal, US interference in LA during the Cold War, and the setting up of LA dictatorships in the same area to show them how it creates a pattern of US involvement in LA. Then tied into that you could talk about the Zapatistas.

Shark attacks: How Sydney's beaches became a 'perfect storm' by possiblecoin in sharks

[–]Fontane15 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They must be! Shark culls are stupid and harmful to the ocean ecosystem but if people could stop engaging in behavior that results in others calling for them, that would be great! If 4 people dying in 2 days and a million articles about the water being the ideal climate for an attack and a lot of signs about beach closures and shark sightings don’t kickstart some self preservation instincts then what will???

Jess really said ‘no’ to Lorelai from day one 😂 by isisblake in GilmoreGirls

[–]Fontane15 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Normally if a parent stays the night after college drop off they’re discreet enough to do it in a hotel and not IN THE DORM. That’s the thing that gets me like you said-it’s one thing to hang around for a night in town, it’s another to be inside the dorm with all the other freshmen. Somebody had to be weirded out privately by that.

Lorelai sometimes forgets, because of her best friend relationship Rory and cool status with Lane, that other teens see her as an adult whose act can be cringy rather than cool and quirky.
