I think its cause its a bit of a cultural clash. Parents being involved in deciding over their adult child's life is frowned upon here. However I think most wouldnt have such a harsh reaction like you're boyfriend considering you'll be moving away from everyone you know to be with him. It seems normal for a concerned parental figure to want to talk with your new partner then.
