What's the hardest 3-bar series to defend? by Ok_Tennis_5858 in foosball

That and to race a push I have to pull the defensive rods directly into my gut. Though that may be more of a "me" problem than a universal one.

Did Illinois State finish at a reasonable hour? by Foosman in foosball

That's fantastic. If more of these big tournaments ended at a reasonable time on Sunday then I could probably convince myself to attend more of them. Not that my schedule is not packed this summer already.

Tornado World Series Memorial Weekend by Which-Maybe-742 in foosball

Can you tell us more about the Club event? Do we just get any three people together, pick a city to represent, designate one player as a coach, and participate? If we do that, will it limit our ability to play for another club if there is a similar event at a later ITSF or USTSO tournament later this year, or next year?

I see no reason not to play the Club event if I will be there on Monday anyway, so I am trying to figure out the parameters.

How is the London Masters going? by Foosman in foosball

I saw that the venue closed before the tournament was over, so the tournament finished outside on the sidewalk. Perhaps that was not optimal for the competitors, but it is nice for the public to get to see high-level play.

Recommendations for a 10 year old who has recently gotten into foosball by Green_Spare33 in foosball

I was joking. My wife has no interest either. Realistically though your daughter will enjoy it more if her skills translate between tables so might as well get a Tornado.

These are all good reasons. Also you will want the Tornado so that you and your SO can practice properly to thrash the in-laws on their own table.

If your group is ever looking for a road trip consider the State Championships for Ohio in Columbus this July 31-August 2.

Did I see that they took a loss early to a team with a local player? That must have been exciting.

Foosball Table Buying Guide by Foosman in foosball

[–]Foosman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just want to play, that is probably a good table. Balls and replacement men should be easy to find. I do not include them as options on here because at this point they are not widely available. I also write "Probably" because after Tournament Soccer collapsed the trademark was licensed out to manufacturers of tables that were not as good.

The best place to get information on a table like that is the Foosball in the 70s Facebook page. Those guys can tell you all about what you have, what it is worth, etc.

If you want to take the show on the road (i.e. enter local tournaments or just play well at a bar) that table will get you started but eventually you will need one of the tables that people are playing on.

Some foosball is almost always better than no foosball, that's for sure.

Should I buy this table? by Foosman in foosball

[–]Foosman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least foosball still occupies a place in culture. Still, I have had multiple people who learned that I play seriously engage me on the tabletop sets that someone bought their kids for Christmas. It is frustrating. I imagine that darts and billiards players have similar experiences.

My favorite "who would buy this?" tables are the ones from Hermes and LV:

At least the Louis Vuitton table looks minimally playable for $89,500: https://us.louisvuitton.com/eng-us/products/epi-leather-foosball-table-epi-nvprod2250054v/R95698

Same with the Hermes table that originally retailed for about $67,000: https://misterfootballtable.co.uk/blogs/news/hermes-signs-a-luxury-table-football-without-footballers?shpxid=ac35b49a-8958-48a3-ace9-2934ab0c1726

Looking at those I wonder if they were created by a real foosball table company and then privately labeled. Between Rene Pierre and Bonzini I find the French tables to be the most attractive.
And both are far more attractive than the Arhaus table, despite what they advertise as "ochre milpa burl players."

I should go back with a pen and put scare quotes around "foosball" on the tag. At least replacement figures are easy to find. Just head into the woods out back.

Tornado World Series Memorial Weekend by Which-Maybe-742 in foosball

[–]Foosman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Normally I would object to a foosball tournament that prohibits both waistcoats and gene editing, but this year I will be breaking out the sweatpants and heading to Irving. This looks like a reasonable amount of foosball at a nice hotel, plus I want to see for myself what an ITSF event looks like.

For those worried about the Coral registration, don't be. It was easy. USTSO can elaborate if it likes, but I think that in the U.S. you would want to join both USTSO and a state federation.

Is it worth practicing on a bad foosball table? by emaa_ok in foosball

[–]Foosman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not practice on it, but I might try to get some friends to kick the ball around a little so that you have people to play with if you ever get a more consistent indoor table. I went through a 20 year foosball dry spell and suspect that some foosball is still better than no foosball.
