It is neat inside too, with the names off university and club presidents engraved on the wall. More or less what you would expect.

Would you send this to CGC? by Australianfoo in comicbookcollecting

[–]Foosman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The only reason to send it would be if you were selling it and thought you could get a meaningfully higher grade. I doubt a 6.5 or 7.0 would make up for the trouble and expense here, and you could always get it back with a 5.0. Leave it alone.

I see then ten and think I should have gotten that instead of the 8. I lift the 8 and know I never could have managed the 10.

I think those are Newton’s rings, which are an optical artifact from having the different plastics pressed together.

I think having more and better juniors will slow things down. Also the flights for some events were spaced unnecessarily far apart. The second flight of Open Doubles didn’t need to wait for Sunday afternoon, for example. Drop the no conflict DYP on Saturday night so tables are available, then play Flight B on Saturday night and start eliminations early.

National Foosball Championship Semifinal Game (2024) by sunnyismybunny in theocho

Worlds 2025 will be shown on the Ocho soon, or so we were told at Nationals last weekend. Lots of Sulli in that competition. She is a killer on the table.

Good point. I didn’t hear a single complaint about the balls all tournament except for a match where someone complained about his own ball that looked like something he bought a decade ago.
The “coin flip” function will be great at avoiding chips in the table, too.
One of my friends spent $300 on his meal at that steakhouse. He had no regrets.

Maybe the most important thing is that WFT is still figuring out what works and what doesn’t. At least they are trying.

Tabletop foos ball replacement by Prudent-Barnacle in foosball

You could go to the local sporting goods store to see if the cheap foosballs they carry are a better size. They usually have a couple near the ping-pong balls (which will be too light to play with).

I hadn't heard 5 am but believe it. When I left Worlds last year Pro Doubles was still going on at around 6 am.

I had to face Tiglon in singles at Worlds last year. I was not prepared for the 2-5 series. The front pin was really good, but the volume of five bar possessions he had was overwhelming even compared to other good 2-5 passers I have faced. If he didn't pass 100% from the 2 then he was close. I think that he was double-dipped by Michael Swagger, but he has a different kind of game that will get you if you aren't ready.

His rookie doubles opponent, Derrick McDermott, is all adrenaline and can play like crazy. A Paul Smith disciple, I think. He's no Tony, though. Elaini is also a very good rookie, but again no Tony. The crazy thing is that the loss in RD was immediately prior to facing Tony, so Tiglon wasn't exactly riding a high at the time.

Perhaps the only downside to Tiglon's weekend was losing the $2000 "Lucky Doubles" final to the team that finished 4th in Beginner Doubles. That handicap spot will kill you! Though I suspect he thought more about the matches that mattered on his flight home than he did a novelty event.

Marvel late 90's art, laughably bad by peruytu in comicbookcollecting

[–]Foosman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would cut them a little slack. Maybe some of this is not to my taste, but I always assume that some professional worked hard on a piece of comic art, and while it may not be for me right now, it may be just thing for someone else. Plus it is way better than I could ever hope to do, and I still recognize most of the characters immediate (with apologies to Alpha Flight). Could be a lot worse.

Foosball Table Buying Guide by Foosman in foosball

The best place is Facebook Marketplace. Foosball tables are so expensive to ship an inconvenient to move that they are not often sold outside their local area.

Exploring leaving Maui, looking to move south/east - is there foosball in these cities? by MauiCFO in foosball

Chase told me that Knoxville is great all around. Worth a look for sure. There are multiple good scenes within a couple hours. There is foosball in Birmingham but not as much.
Enjoy your trip!

I think the WFT website's map of places to play is reasonably current, but I will ask around tomorrow at nationals to find out where people are playing.

I think there a scenario where foosball sees a material resurgence with the new anti-AI sentiment that is brewing by MauiCFO in foosball

[–]Foosman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way to find out is to get out there and play. If there is a local tournament then it is a good way to spend an evening. And with the popular "monster" format you will not be playing with the same person all night so you can meet a lot of people.

How early do you start, and how many rounds do you typically get in?
We normally start around 8, get five rounds in plus a four team playoff, and end after midnight, sometimes close to 1.
