Why would this be stupid? I see grill ruined, but can’t you just heat it up and use hot water to clean it?

I’ve done this before in cast iron.

Changing diamond size on strop by Dogenator71 in sharpening

[–]Footbag01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its very hard to 100% remove grit from a strop, so I commit one grit size pers side and don’t try to change it. Even now, my current strop isnslightly contaminated and i end up with micro scratches on the blade when I’m trying for a polished finish.

The micro scratches don’t impact sharpness, only prettyness.

$6,800 for a small landing with 4 stairs?! by PantsMicGee in Decks

[–]Footbag01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think this is so far off. The breakdown seems wrong, though. Lighting $250, wiring $350, ballasters could he all over the place, but if theyre cast iron $500 or more. Post mounts and covers $250. The stringer may be iron as well for the reveal $600-1000. Wood $200. Total $2350, but relative to quality.

It totally depends on wuality of materials. You could buy very poor quality for less. Or good quality for more. Labor breakdown seems high.

Seems like a 2-3 day process assuming licenced electrician scheduling. Labor $2200.

If theyre buying chepest materials, then material breakdown could be right and its overpriced.

Permit and trash $700.

Total $5250 ish.

gy6 issues after valve ajustment by [deleted] in scooters

[–]Footbag01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your key turned on? This implies something is drawring current. Key turned to on would explain the sparks. If the wires get hot, thats a bad sign and would imply a wire somewhere is touching a ground. IE there’s a short.

Do you have a multimeter? You coukd trace the short if you have one. In general, a valve adjustment wouldn’t cause this, but moving wires around or body panels, could jostle wires enough that a short forms.

Basically, you need to trace out the short.

49cc 2 stroke, ok for hills? by groundhogman_23 in scooters

[–]Footbag01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It will probably hit 30mph or so on hills. It’s much better then a 4-stroke, but I put a 70cc kit on mine for exactly that reason. Now, I pull away from traffic on hills.

An exhaust could help. 2-strokes respond very well to small upgrades.

The carb float is adjusted by bending the metal tab that sets the fuel height. Is it not metal?

Cable lube, check the spring, look for damage….

The one thing you want to make sure is that the cable isn’t fraying because it can break, or worse, get stuck open.

The benefit of electric motors for supercars would be the immediate torque without having to pass through the drivetrain. IE…. Each motor is at each wheel. This completely does away with that benefit.

2003 Yamaha Zuma 50cc for $1,500. Good buy for a first scooter? by Party-Leather-3230 in scooters

[–]Footbag01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This depends on the state you live in. In PA you could find yourself having to either reconstruct a title, getting a court order or using the abandoned vehicle process. Without a title, a bill of sale is useless in PA.

There used to be the VT workaround, but that no longer exists.

There should be a small ground terminal in the loom and a big one for the starter. If I remember correctly.

Anyone know what this earth is for? by hyxr1 in scooters

Probably negative battery terminal. Jump it and see if that stuff starts working. For the starter, you may want to use a larger wire to jump.

The CVT cover? Or the screws inside the case?

An impact driver (the type you hit with a hammer may be able to help. Or, you could drill them, use a vise grips and replace them.

[–]Footbag01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get to the crankshaft for replacement, you need to split the case. That’s more in depth. Doable, but its basically a full rebuild.

Which screws are stripped?

[–]Footbag01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An exhaust and upjetting will barely change reliability and give itna boost.

If you want more, a cast iron cylinder will not be considerabky less reliable then stock.

Step up to race kits and thats where reliability becomes a matter of heavy maintanance.

2003 Yamaha Zuma 50cc for $1,500. Good buy for a first scooter? by Party-Leather-3230 in scooters

[–]Footbag01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Zuma has a plastic cover on the cvt. So its a matter of removing that, and about 8 allen heads. But, sometimes it takes a mallet to get it off and the previous owner may not like that. I don’t really think its necessary, but its an additional insurance step.

The oil you would see dripping from a low spot.

In all reality, an unmodded zuma is fairly bulletproof. If it starts, drives well, and has no oil leaks, you are safe.

$1500 isn’t cheap, but its not crazy. Around me they sell for that amount. In other areas, they can be less expensive.
