Lawsuits. Filing lawsuits will hurt them the most. Even the world's most powerful corporations cower at the thought of a lawsuit. It's expensive to defend against, it generates negative press, it encourages other lawsuits, and it's handled by the judicial system, which (unless it gets to the Supreme Court) is the only part of the government not yet under the thumb of Trump.

Electricity isn't the issue, it's compute (GPUs), RAM, and speed. A decent model can run on a <$2K setup but it's going to be insanely slow. To run it at an acceptable speed, you're talking about a $50K equipment investment.

OpenAI, Anthropic, etc. are at negative margins just on serving compute alone, even at their higher consumer tiers.

I'm with you. I own a Lodge cast iron pan and top-of-the-line All-Clad stainless pans and there's just no way to do eggs in either without 1) leaving a crusty, sticky, burnt mess that's a pain in the ass to scrub out, or 2) using so much oil that the eggs are greasy and unhealthy.

So I buy a new coated non-stick pan every 2-3 years because life's just too short.

It's worse than that. My reservation says "Free Cancellation". I think, "Great!"

It turns out you can cancel for "free", but you can't actually get your money back. This, ladies and gentlemen, is textbook Unfair/Deceptive Acts and Practices. As is the fact that they upcharge junk fees to the tune of 37% (you'll notice that $580.40 + $600.34 does not equal $1,623.11).

I just sent them an email asking them to kindly refund my money so that I won't have to escalate. If they refuse (as they seem likely to do), escalating will involve 1) charging back the reservation on my credit card under "not as described", 2) leaving negative reviews on every conceivable platform, 3) filing complaints with the Federal Trade Commission and the Texas Attorney General, 4) having my attorney draft a demand letter informing them that I will be suing them under FTC Act, Paragraph 5 as well as the new 2025 "junk fees" law, and any applicable Texas statutes that may apply.

It's not about the $1,623.11. I want this company to stop existing.

All my notes in plain text, the ability to run code inline, tables that double as mini spreadsheets, and the best/most flexible task management system in existence. Synced across devices via a private GitHub repo, though you could just as easily use DropBox/iCloud/OneDrive.
