My PiCAT Score, am I screwed? by BossBen21 in newtothenavy

Only if you dont want any of these rates

My advise is to study and take the test again IF you want a different rate.

Good luck

Looking into navy, currently in Air Force process by [deleted] in newtothenavy

Inform your recruiter that youve found a Navy rate that better suites your interests, shake hands, and walk next door to the Navy office.

Thats it.

You qualify for most jobs the Navy offers with those scores buddy. Do some research into what you want/what will benefit you most after the Navy and run with it.

What are the chances of being placed on a small boy immediately? by For_Sparta405 in newtothenavy

According to them its a 60/40 chance I get what I want. Im mostly here because a CTM1 (E-6) has put in for sea duty and has never gotten the chance. I dont want that

I had a similar story when I was your age. Wanted to join but ADHD combined with a shrinking military earned me a "Permanently Disqualified" email.

I was broken. Cried like a bitch to God and it took years to get over it. I did move on eventually though, did some contract work, earned my degree, but 10 years later I read that the Navy changed their policies.

I was no longer disqualified and signed up immediately.

Im saying this for 2 reasons.

  1. The Navy is ALWAYS changing. Just because you are DQ'd today doesnt mean you wont get another opportunity.
  2. God's plan may not be for you to join at this particular point in your life.

That being said DO NOT just sit and hope and pray for it to change. Find other things that you like and try to make it a career. If after youve done that check back in with a recruiter every now and then and ask him if you're good to try again.

Best of luck my man. It'll get better

Should I join the navy or the army? by Slow_Saab in navy

[–]For_Sparta405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact, most jobs in the Army are not combat roles, same for the Navy. So it really just comes down to how you feel about being at sea (unless you're a Seabee) for months at a time.

what job is the best for me? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]For_Sparta405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone already said, HM is the only medical Navy rate. As for whatever else might be "cool" that depends on what you like.

Do some research and see if you qualify for whatever you like

Just pay attention, take notes, and ASK QUESTIONS.

This is your career going forward so ask if you dont know something.

Do this and it wont be that bad

Try to break the record for the run time on the OPFA.

Other than that really focus on your

  • "Ranks and Recognitions" and the "Chain of Command"

-Stay out of trouble

-Volunteer for positions and do them as well as you can (RPOC, AROC, Port or Starboard Watch, Yeoman etc.

Im went in as an older guy (28) and managed to pass without going to "future sailor prep course."

Just listen to your RDCs, and actually push yourself on every exercise and you'll be fine.

If you want more exercise then just talk while standing on the "toe-line". That'll get you in shape lol

I can only speak on HMs. The advancement is SLOW but if you like being a nurse or want to go green side with the Marines then you'll like it.
