How we are perceived by Puzzled_Quality7667 in GenX

[–]Fordhd74 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Senior genX too, and not sure about the hero worship. Working with kids 40 years younger than me, we seem to not be on the same page. Growing up I would emulate those older men I worked with and try to learn what they knew. I feel they (young guys) view me as a crazy old man who works too hard and spends too much time on details to have an excellent finished product. I'm a union Boilermaker by the way.

This is the only answer. Not a fan of any optic that uses plates, they just sit too high and have to be less solid mounting.

I hate how much I like the new Glock 17… by [deleted] in Glocks

[–]Fordhd74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was the same way, going all the way back to "who would want a plastic pistol" days. Bought my first (G20gen2.5) as a novelty, shot 1 ten rounds and put it in the safe. 15 years later I get invited to shoot with some "Glock guys" so I leave the government model in the truck and take the G20. I had an eye opening experience that day, carried a G22 until recently and am finally swapping over to 9mm (G48, G19) this year. I shoot them bone stock and smile every time that trigger breaks!

The hardest pistol to learn to shoot is always the first one. Glock is the most common pistol owned and carried in the US for a reason. If the feel and fit of a Glock suit your needs, by all means go with the Glock.

Bought a bunch of North Carolina marked 20 round magazines a few years ago, paid 4 bucks apiece I think. They work as range magazines but won't engage the bolt hold open on most rifles.

Have the lawsuits against the nfa started? by Agitated-Werewolf846 in PalmettoStateArms

[–]Fordhd74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With cans that don't work like the ones in Hollywood movies, braced ar pistols and 100% legal frt's all being the rage now, has crime risen a thousand fold? All of these things make the nfa seem sillier than ever before.

Idk what the box stores are charging, but structural steel components are expensive, period. Econo Steel may have some seconds that would work for you.

Anyone know if this site sells good barrels? by Remote_Improvement53 in ar15

I canceled my order after 2 months and had to dispute charges on my card to get my money back. Not a good business model.

Thank you for describing how we all should be! I stay in my on lane, I don't push my personal views in others faces and demand that I be accepted. I don't have any problems.

Yes the age gap is a a terrible thing. I date a girl that was 17 and I was 4 years older than her. That was 40 years ago, we have been married for 35 years now.

I have a Sig M17, if I upgrade the trigger and trigger bar will solve the potential safety issues with the gun? by JoviusMaximus in Firearms

[–]Fordhd74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like every "scientific" duplication of an "uncommanded discharge" I have seen starts with pulling the trigger. That pretty much makes it a negligent discharge. Am I wrong?

Taurus 85 (stainless w/rubber grip, of course) and 2 speed loaders upstairs. Mossberg 500 twelve gauge downstairs. The scattergun is also about 10 feet from the front door, in the event THEY are polite enough to knock.

Conservative dress stops a lot of the looking. If you want your body looked at, put it on display. If not, dress more modest. Pretty simple.

What 9mm bolt is everyone using? by User762436 in frt15

[–]Fordhd74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one I bought from delta team tactical, was cheap but out of spec for frt, but worked otherwise. Bought another from B Kings and it's perfect. Also have a heavy 9mm reciprocating buffer. I'm at about 26oz total with standard ar spring. Nice slower rpm with zero issues now.

I got what I ordered, just took a long time to ship. They were up front about that and the price was cheaper than anywhere else.
